BREMONT APPOINTED OFFICIAL TIMING PARTNER FOR THE AMERICA’S CUP & ORACLE TEAM USA Bremont is delighted to announce its appointment as Official Timing Partner to the 35th America’s Cup and to the defending champion, ORACLE TEAM USA. Renowned as the oldest trophy in international sport the America’s Cup first took place in 1851 on the waters off England’s south coast. Today this exciting and compelling event remains firmly at the forefront of the international sporting calendar, with cutting edge catamarans crewed by world-class sailors fighting to win the historic trophy.
The global America’s Cup World Series begins in July 2015 in Portsmouth, UK, followed by the America’s Cup Qualifiers and Play-Offs leading up to the dramatic 2017 final in Bermuda. “The addition of an Official Timing Partner is a key commercial milestone for the America’s Cup,” said Harvey Schiller, the Commercial Commissioner of the event. “Along with our recently announced broadcast agreements momentum is building as we head into summer and towards the first America’s Cup World Series racing in Portsmouth, England in July.”

As children Bremont co-founders Nick and Giles English lived on a sailing boat built by their father Euan English, an ex-RAF pilot with a PhD in Aeronautical Engineering. He inspired his young sons with his knowledge of aviation, yacht construction and clock manufacture, leading them to form the Bremont Watch Company in 2002. Giles English, who studied as a naval architect, said, “Nick and I grew up with both flying and sailing in our blood, so it’s a dreamcome-true that Bremont has the opportunity to support

selection as Official Timing Partners. America’s Cup Event Authority Director Russell Coutts explained, “Bremont partnering with the America’s Cup and ORACLE TEAM USA is hugely exciting because we love what they have done as a business, their products and what the brand stands for. We wanted to work closely with a company that brings passion and expertise to engineering to create world class products.” Alongside partner companies in the aerospace industry, Bremont has developed new materials and techniques for watch manufacture. Similar sharing of industry expertise occurs in the high-tech world of the America’s Cup, as ORACLE TEAM USA skipper Jimmy Spithill explains, “Where we are now with our sport, there’s a real correlation with the aviation industry and pushing boundaries. We are using very high-grade composites, carbonfibre and super high-grade modulars so there are some really cool connections.”
Jimmy Spithill decided that gaining his pilot’s license was the best way to understand the Nick and Giles English, Bremont Co-Founders with Jimmy Spithill, ORACLE TEAM USA Skipper at the Bremont Boutique New York launch, June 2015.
and promote the amazing story of this world-famous race, the America’s Cup. We are honoured to be involved in this prestigious event with such historical importance.” The adventure, heritage and engineering fundamental to the Cup make the event a natural fit for Bremont. Nick English says, “As with all our partners we will look to learn from them and work closely on a technical level but we also intend to explore the Cup’s rich history.” The event’s roots are firmly entrenched in British maritime past, making the Cup a natural successor to Bremont’s previous nautical projects celebrating historic British achievement. Particularly close to their heart is John Harrison, a self-educated English carpenter, who invented the first successful marine chronometer in 1761. He solved the problem of telling the time at sea by enabling the determination of longitude, allowing Britannia to truly rule the waves. Bremont designed its beautiful, handmadeto-order B-1 Marine Clock in tribute to his remarkable accomplishment. The company’s love of the sea was further demonstrated by the Bremont Victory: a classic limited edition timepiece manufactured using original copper and wood from the world’s only surviving 18th century warship, HMS Victory. Launched in 1765, Victory is most famous as Lord Nelson’s flagship in the 1805 Battle of Trafalgar.
speed is gained the foils lift the twin hulls above the water surface so the catamarans fly over the waves. This huge reduction in hydrodynamic drag enables them to travel faster than the wind. ORACLE TEAM USA skipper Jimmy Spithill decided that gaining his pilot’s license was the best way to understand the aerodynamic principles at play: “It’s interesting how many people in the sailing world are into flying. There’s a natural crossover. I find when you do other sports where there are similarities, that’s where you really learn stuff or stimulate ideas.” Quickly getting hooked on flying, Jimmy recognised kindred spirits at Bremont. He knows that Bremont’s aviation expertise increases their understanding of how to assist the sailors: “I can tell instantly that these guys are into it and this is really important to them just as it is to us. Thanks to their backgrounds and interests I really see it being a strong partnership.” Whilst heritage is ingrained in the company ethos, Bremont has always associated itself with engineering excellence, using ultra-modern manufacturing techniques and materials to produce luxury timepieces. This expert fusion of classic yet cutting edge was instrumental in their
aerodynamic principles at play: “It’s interesting how many people in the sailing world are into flying. There’s a natural crossover.”
Bremont will be vital to proceedings. The boats must sail across the start line at a precise time and each race has a target time of 25 minutes. Every second will count as competitors head towards the finish line. Jimmy Spithill knows timing is instrumental to success, “Everything is down to the split second now with the boats. Timing is the number one key piece of information for starting and everything else, so it is particularly pertinent that we have partnered up with Bremont. Ultimately I really see this partnership as a competitive advantage. We’ve aligned ourselves with a company that has a lot of experience in aviation, and timing for them is everything too.” Bremont is creating new firsts in America’s Cup history, as the first Official Timing Partner to sponsor both the event and the Defenders ORACLE TEAM USA. To commemorate the 35th America’s Cup, Bremont will

Perfectly reflecting the passions that drive the Bremont brand, the modern catamarans of the America’s Cup are a phenomenal fusion of flight principles and sailing technology. Giles English says, “The engineering we have seen surrounding the wingsail catamarans is immense. With strong support from the aerospace industries they are pushing the technology far beyond traditional naval architecture.” With towering rigid wingsails based on aircraft wing design, the catamarans feature retractable L-shaped hydrofoils beneath the hulls. embark on a very special project to produce a series of timepieces projected to set a new standard in sporting and luxury watch collections. Bremont timekeeping will also be present throughout the international television broadcasts as well as on the race course with the Bremont logo gracing the ORACLE TEAM USA catamarans. As Official Timing Partners, Bremont brings its philosophy of immense precision, reliability and durability to the race whilst promoting the heritage of a truly historic event being fought with the most modern of sailing technology. AMERICA’S CUP HISTORY Today the America’s Cup is a global event featuring hightech hydrofoiling, wingsailed catamarans capable of speeds in excess of 40 knots. The crews are elite athletes contending with the great physical extremes of sailing such high performance boats. The competition was equally fierce in 1851, when an American syndicate brought a radical new yacht to English shores. The schooner, called America, was invited to compete in the Royal Yacht Squadron’s annual Isle of Wight regatta to win the ‘£100 Mug’. America coasted home to victory with an eighteen minute lead. Legend states that Queen Victoria, watching this unparalleled winner cross the finish line, asked who was second. She was told, ‘Your majesty, there is no second’. Known as the ‘Auld Mug’, the sterling silver cup (manufactured by Garrard of London, the world’s oldest jewellers) was entrusted to the New York Yacht Club (NYYC) as a “perpetual challenge trophy to promote friendly competition among nations” alongside a ‘Deed of Gift’ that still provides the basis for the Cup’s rules and regulation. Adopting the name of the winning schooner, the America’s Cup quickly attracted challengers hoping to return the trophy to Great Britain. From inception, the event showcased the latest developments in racing yacht design. Sir Thomas Sopwith, renowned aircraft manufacturer and designer of the legendary World War I fighter plane the Sopwith Camel, used his aeronautical expertise to advance the design of his challenging J-class yachts Endeavour and Endeavour II in 1934 and 1937. Sopwith launched an aeronautical link that continues today but failed to take the Cup. Racing ceased during World War II and resumed in 1958. The NYYC successfully defended the Cup against frequent challengers for a phenomenal 132 years. Now a global televised spectacle, the 35th America’s

Cup will be fought in Bermuda with high-speed hydrofoiling AC48 catamarans and defended by 2010 and 2013 winner ORACLE TEAM USA. Challengers include Team France, Sweden’s Artemis Racing, Emirates Team New Zealand and new competitor Softbank Team Japan. The America’s Cup attracts the elite sportsmen of the sailing world, and Bremont is pleased that the 35th edition welcomes a new British challenger: the Ben Ainslie Racing (BAR) team. Sir Ben Ainslie, the most successful sailor in Olympic history, sailed to victory as ORACLE TEAM USA’s tactician at the 34th America’s Cup.
“Everything is down to the split second now with the boats... We’ve aligned ourselves with a company that has a lot of experience in aviation, and timing for them is everything too.” - JIMMY S PITHILL
ORACLE TEAM USA Established in 2000 by Oracle Corp company co-founder Larry Ellison, ORACLE TEAM USA has pushed the boundaries of racing yacht design and provided audiences with some of the most thrilling racing in the America’s Cup history. Representing the Golden Gate Yacht Club of San Francisco, ORACLE TEAM USA mounted challenges in 2003 and 2007 before going on to win the 33rd America’s Cup in 2010, beating Swiss defender Alinghi at Valencia, Spain. At the time, Oracle’s winning yacht USA-17 was the fastest boat ever to race for the Cup. The radical trimaran design featured a 223 foot rigid wingsail, the largest wing ever built, giving it a considerable advantage over the defending champion, Alinghi. ORACLE TEAM USA stormed home to victory, returning the America’s Cup to the USA for the first time since 1995. Aged just 30, Australian Jimmy Spithill became the youngest ever skipper to win the Cup. ORACLE TEAM USA is now preparing to defend the America’s Cup in 2017. Already relocated to their new base in Bermuda, they will soon begin sailing and testing their prototype AC45S in the Great Sound. For his part, Jimmy Spithill is confident that the new America’s Cup Class boats will hit higher speeds than the AC72 come 2017: “The AC48 is going to be the fastest boat around the racetrack.” In the build-up to the Cup, ORACLE TEAM USA will also take part in the America’s Cup World Series, demonstrating the Cup racing style to audiences around the world. The main goal for ORACLE TEAM USA will be training, testing and sailing right up to the 35th America’s Cup final where they will be looking to secure a third consecutive victory. Jimmy cites teamwork as the key to success, speaking highly of ORACLE TEAM USA’s absolute dedication: “It’s about putting yourself second and really thinking about the team and your team mates. We’re pretty fortunate that we’ve got great people, and that’s what wins the America’s Cup - great people.”

BREMONT LAUNCHES AMERICA’S CUP COLLECTION
May 2015 saw Bremont announce a partnership with the America’s Cup Event Authority and ORACLE TEAM USA to be the Official Timing Partner of the 35th America’s Cup and ORACLE TEAM USA. As the first official British timing partner to the America’s Cup since 1851, Bremont has embarked on a very exciting project to produce a special edition series of timepieces to celebrate its involvement. Giles English, Bremont Co-Founder; “Bremont is incredibly proud to be involved in such a historical event, not least of all to be the only watch company allowed to build a watch associated with the 35th America’s Cup and ORACLE TEAM USA. The America’s Cup is possibly the only team extreme sport out there; these boats are built using pioneering technology which makes the race more exhilarating to watch with each Cup. We’re excited to see these new watches be put through their paces on the water, they will certainly be Tested Beyond Endurance.” The build-up to the 35th America’s Cup is well underway and ORACLE TEAM USA have relocated to Bermuda to test and sail on the waters that will host the adrenalinefuelled event in 2017. With Australian skipper Jimmy Spithill at the helm, the team will be looking to secure their third consecutive win. Jimmy became the youngest ever skipper to win the Cup with ORACLE TEAM USA in 2010, and oversaw their remarkable 2013 victory, thrilling audiences with one of the greatest comebacks in sporting history. After visiting Bremont’s Mayfair boutique in London Jimmy said that the watch company’s enthusiasm for being Official Timing Partner to ORACLE TEAM USA was clear: “They understand a lot of our componentry, what makes a boat go fast, and all the aviation similarities like lift and drag. So they’ll be thinking how can we help these guys, as if they were helping a pilot, what can we do to help him make better decisions and have an edge over the others. Thanks to their background and their interests, I really see it being a strong relationship.”
AMERICA’S CUP COLLECTION AMERICA’S CUP SERIES The America’s Cup Series is a classic watch collection befitting the history of the Cup and Bremont has launched two Special Edition watches, the Bremont AC I and AC II. BREMONT AC I The Bremont AC I was inspired by the simple lines of the J-Class yacht with its classical and understated design; it incorporates sea blue steel hands and a fine ivory white opaline dial embossed with outlines of the Cup to give subtle pattern and depth to the face of the watch. Taking its design reference from the SOLO range, this is the first time Bremont has introduced a polished steel version. The AC I is chronometer-rated with a top execution automatic movement, an obvious choice for anyone interested in the allure of mechanical watches. The movement and robust anti-shock movement mount can be viewed through the sapphire crystal exhibition case back. The hand polished case is water resistant to 100m and comes on a blue Temple Island rubber strap.
BREMONT AC II In keeping with the style of the AC I, the AC II is a bi-compact chronograph made from rose gold inspired by the iconic polished ALT1-C. The beautifully shaped blue steel hands set against the fine ivory white opaline dial once again capture the timeless elegance of the J-Class yachts; the AC II is an archetypal watch that resonates well with the history of the America’s Cup. Bremont has incorporated the subtle motif of the Auld Mug outline on the two sub-dials offering a wonderfully refined pattern to the face of the watch. Integrating an impeccably modified, chronometer-rated, Valjoux 7750-SO BI AC movement that can be seen through the exhibition case back, the AC II exemplifies fine watchmaking at its best.
BREMONT ORACLE I The Bremont Oracle I is a purpose built timepiece that is constructed to be used on the water, or in the water, as a reliable piece of equipment for any seafarer. The design has evolved from the Supermarine range that is used by divers and military around the world demonstrating its durability and robustness. Incorporating the ORACLE TEAM USA branding on the new off white dial together with applied index numbering has produced a modern yet classical sailing watch. The red tipped minute hand and beautifully cast case back are also clear indications that this is a team associated watch. The Oracle I is built using a 500m water resistant case, Bremont anti-shock movement mount and anti-magnetic Faraday cage which encases the beautifully finished, chronometertested, BE-36AE movement. Each case incorporates an automatic helium valve.
BREMONT ORACLE II The second watch in the ORACLE TEAM USA Series is designed on the same principles as the Oracle I, using similar case technology but made from aircraft grade titanium and with second time zone enabling GMT functionality. The striking fine varnished matt black dial with applied index markers is finished off with ‘America’s Cup’ written above the ‘6’, and the beautifully engineered case back has the ORACLE TEAM USA branding etched into it. The Oracle II is built using a highly technical 500m water resistant titanium case, incorporating the Bremont anti-shock movement mount and anti-magnetic Faraday cage which encases the beautifully finished, chronometer-tested, modified calibre 13 ¼’’’ BE-92-2AE movement. Each case incorporates an automatic helium valve.

Tested and designed in conjunction with the iconic British aviation company ‘Martin-Baker’, three models available: the MBI, MBII and MBIII. The MBI is only available to those individuals who have ejected using a Martin-Baker ejection seat and this rare timepiece can be quickly identified by its unique red aluminium barrel. The movement is protected by an anti-magnetic Faraday cage and a specifically designed anti-shock case mount. The MB range had to withstand the same rigorous testing as the seats themselves. This included shock, vibration, temperature extremes, and salt-fog tests amongst others. • •

LIMITED EDITIONS Although all watches in the Bremont collection are manufactured in limited numbers, occasionally we embark on a very special project to produce something that is uniquely different and extremely limited in volume, typically due to the rarity of the materials we are working with. Whether it is the preservation of heritage or a subject that means a great deal to us, the key defining factor is our passion. Our first such project was a prime example, released in 2008 the EP120 was engineered using material from one of the most famous and iconic Spitfires flying, this wonderful plane was also owned by a friend of Nick and Giles’ father. Bremont followed the EP120 with the P-51 (far left), the Victory (left), the Codebreaker (above) and most recently the Wright Flyer. All previous limited editions have since sold out but more examples of the limited edition projects that Bremont work on can be found on our website: www.bremont.com/ chronometers#limited

BREMONT TECHNOLOGY T H E M E C H A N I C A L WAT C H Bremont is built on precise timekeeping. Only the highest quality components are used in our movements. Every watch bearing the Bremont name is chronometer-tested, then further subjected to a rigorous quality control programme. The results are all documented in detailed records securely stored at our headquarters. The only exceptions are some of our limited edition pieces, for which a stringent testing programme is well inside the C.O.S.C parameters. It goes without saying that their movements contain chronometer specification parts. Every watch in our core collection is accompanied by a performance certificate issued by the ‘Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres’ (C.O.S.C). The certificate confirms that the mechanical movement has passed each of the rigorous precision tests necessary for the chronometer designation. Watches are the most precise mechanical devices on the planet. Bremont aims to keep it that way. Our watches are subjected to rigorous testing procedures. For example, chronometer certifications take 15 days to complete over several different temperature ranges and watch positions. The average daily variation rate must be between -4 and +6 seconds. With 86,400 seconds in a single day, it means every single Bremont watch is 99.998% accurate. Our ethos is brought to life in the design, specification and quality of the materials we insist upon. For example, we only use the finest Glucydur balance wheels as opposed to the ‘elaborate’ nickel equivalent found in many high-end luxury watches. Nine layers of anti-reflective treatment are applied to both sides of the sapphire crystals. The B-EBE2000 hardening technology also makes Bremont watch cases an average of seven times harder and more scratch-resistant than its competitors. The result is a distinctive range of elegant watches. This uncompromising quality is reflected in the 3 year guarantee.
1
1 The hardened steel bezel element, containing the
sapphire crystal. 2 The central body section, consisting of a titanium
or DLC treated middle barrel. 3 The steel and crystal case back.
The separate middle section offers flexibility in both durability and design. It allows us to manufacture cases from different metals, such as titanium, to alter the watch’s weight. DLC, meanwhile, adds to the variety by using contrasting colours to distinguish between models.
Bremont Roto-Click® Many Bremont watches have been designed from a clean sheet of paper. New bezel technology designed and built in-house is now integrated into a number of models such as the MB. The bezel rotates while gliding on a series of four ball bearings. These bearings knit into the gearing of the bezel to produce a most satisfying click for every minute rotated.
2
Bremont Anti-Shock Designed by Bremont initially for the MB range of watches, our unique rubberised movement mount encloses the inner workings. A flexible ring then connects the mount to the outer case, absorbing shocks and allowing the inner case and movement to float.
3
Anti-Magnetic Faraday Cage A number of Bremont models are designed to withstand the detrimental effects of magnetism on a watch’s movement. With a limited amount of space available, this is achieved by encasing the movement in a soft-iron Faraday cage. Any potentially harmful magnetic fields are then routed around the movement. These features apply to some models only.

BREMONT TESTING
Bremont B-EBE2000 Watch Case Treatment All Bremont watches are treated for hardness with B-EBE2000 technology. During this special stage in the case production the metal is heat-treated and defused with carbon, then bombarded with electrons. The process dramatically increases the hardness and scratch resistance of the stainless steel. On the Vickers scale of hardness, for example, B-EBE2000 produces a watch case with a value of 2000Hv - approximately seven times that of the normal stainless steel used for watch cases.
Testing. It’s something of an obsession. Our first five years were devoted to it, both in the workshop and in the field. Watch parts are continually tested for tolerances, strength, hardness and finish. In fact, every single component undergoes the most rigorous quality controls and it doesn’t stop there. Each movement in our core range is independently chronometer-tested over 15 days. Once assembled in their hardened cases, the movements are then checked and tested again before being regulated by the watchmakers. The watches then enter a further testing programme involving mechanical and visual inspections. Finally, chronometers are assessed for accuracy, functionality, automatic winding and water resistance.
So yes, testing is an obsession. But one that results in every timepiece leaving our workshop with a 3-year warranty. Our intention from the outset was always to design and manufacture a mechanical watch in the UK. The watch would be designed around the principles of engineering and not fashion. It would look as visually arresting in decades to come as on the day it left the workshop. And it would be equally at home in the boardroom as above the clouds or below the sea. Bremont watches have been tested beyond endurance by explorers, adventurers, extreme divers and the military. Now, it’s your turn.
Automatic Movements Bremont focuses purely on beautifully made mechanical movements. Each one is finished to the highest levels of craftsmanship, whether in a clear-backed case or not and all are guaranteed to within -4 and +6 seconds per day. For this reason Bremont is one of the few watch-makers to offer a 3 year warranty on every timepiece. Bremont produces some of the finest quality watches in its price point. SuperLumiNova® Bremont carefully applies as many as 15 to 20 coats of SuperLumiNova® paint to a range of dials in our collection. It ensures optimal visibility in the poorest of lighting conditions.
Helium Escape Valve The Bremont Supermarine range features a helium escape valve. This spring-loaded single-direction valve is activated when the differential between the inner and outer pressure reaches a critical level. This results in the release of the gases trapped in the watch case. Watches with helium escape valves are pressure tested at our workshop.
Our watches all undergo a stringent testing programme to meet the highest standards before they are released with a 3 year warranty.
Proprietary Movement The BWC/01 has been part-developed and designed in Britain with our Swiss partners. A number of the key constituent movement parts are also manufactured at the company’s workshops in the UK, which is the first step for Bremont towards manufacturing movements in their entirety on these shores. Pictured here within the Bremont Jaguar MKI.

Bremont Sapphire Watch Crystals Our convex sapphire crystals come with a Mohs hardness rating of 9. That’s also the equivalent to 2000Hv on the Vickers scale. Untreated crystals can allow light to reflect back, significantly affecting the legibility of the dial. So anti-reflective coatings are vapour-deposited to both sides of the glass in a vacuum environment, reducing reflections to less than 0.5% for optimum legibility.

Bremont has built a very close working relationship with the military. As a result, we develop bespoke mechanical chronometers that mirror the individual identities of a number of squadrons. It has allowed us to do something unlike any other luxury watch company: create mechanical watches that not only reflect our values, but also those of individual squadrons. If sensibly maintained, a mechanical watch should last forever - unlike quartz or battery alternatives. So a quality watch is more than simply a timepiece. It is an heirloom to be passed down through the generations. Bremont’s passion for crafting beautifully engineered chronometers is shared by many of our military clients. We go to extraordinary levels to produce unique timepieces for air force, navy and army units around the world, far surpassing any other brand.

BREMONT HERITAGE MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDERS We would like to say a personal thank you for your interest in the Bremont collection, developed to meet the expectations of those who demand more from a mechanical watch. Time began for Bremont in 2002, when we embarked on a journey to make beautifully crafted watches of exceptional quality. Inspired by a love of flying historic aircraft, of watches and of all things mechanical, our timepieces had to be tested beyond the normal call of duty - and not just in the workshop. Immensely precise, reliable and durable, Bremont watches are hand built in limited numbers; we’re proud that all are now assembled in the UK. Each is designed to appeal to those who share our passion for and appreciation of the innovation and mastery behind a beautiful mechanical wristwatch. We hope you enjoy the same satisfaction when you wear a Bremont watch as we do in creating one.
Nick & Giles English, Co-founders
BREMONT PRINCIPLES 1 British Great Britain has a wonderful history when it comes to watch making and has probably been the home to more advances in horology than any other nation. Bremont is determined to play a pivotal role in the reinvigoration of this industry on British shores.
2 Aviation
3 Engineering Bremont builds many of its own watch components at its state-of-the-art Parts Manufacturing Facility in Silverstone. As a company we verge on the obsessive in the desire to produce watches that are over-engineered for the task in hand. This passion becomes very evident when you hold a Bremont watch.
4 Adventure
The love and passion for aviation has coursed through the founders veins from very early in their childhoods. There has always been a very close association between time and aviation since the first brave adventurers took to the skies over 100 years ago. The love of aviation and its uncompromising demands are both inherent in every Bremont watch.
A key design requisite for the timepieces from the outset was the desire to make beautifully robust and durable watches that were at home both in the workplace, and of course in rather more physical environments. The watches continue to be tested to the limits, both in the workshop but also by Bremont’s ambassadors and partners.

A BRITISH WAT C H C O M PA N Y It may surprise you to know that watch making is a very British trade. Every major escapement design and around three quarters of related innovations came from these shores. Much is owed to Thomas Tompion (1639-1713), the ‘Father of English Clock-Making’ and the remarkable Thomas Mudge (1715-1794), who invented the lever escapement still used in most watches today. John Harrison (1693-1776), meanwhile, solved the problem of accurately telling the time at sea and by doing so, in calculating longitude as well. They were followed by other illustrious names including John Arnold and more recently, George Daniels.
