“Fabric installations are becoming increasingly popular and a great way to add height, depth and, most importantly, texture to your wedding design,” says Rebecca. “Perhaps your venue has a high ceiling and you want to create a more intimate and romantic setting? Or maybe you want to add a bit of drama? If so, a fabric installation could be for you. There is so much versatility depending on your design and you can choose from a variety of fabrics and textures. I would always recommend hiring a stylist or fabric designer to achieve this look; have a look at Mia Sylvia (miasylvia.co.uk). A bonus of taking this approach is that they can also take care of table linen and napkins to avoid stock standard white linen as well as added touches such as silk bows or ribbons for your bouquets.”

“Wedding traditions are fast becoming a thing of the past; couples are now choosing which parts of the day are most important to them rather than what they think they should be doing on their special day. Over the past year we’ve seen alternative table plans and long tables having their moment – 2022 weddings will push this further and see couples experimenting with unusual reception table layouts, whether it’s sitting amongst your guests and enjoying every moment or experimenting with different shapes of tables. Squares and curves are interesting shapes to incorporate into your design; I love the thought of a curved table winding through an orchard or wooded space or even full circle!”

“Pastels have had a reinvention over the last couple of years – and thank goodness!” says Nikki. “No longer a mundane classic wedding look mixing shades of blush with neutral tones and gold – pastels are now much more high-octane! Embrace sugary saccharine pastel shades again. I’m just loving properly popping pinks, lilacs and blues! What’s more, they look great combined with other wedding looks: go boho by mixing in lots of dried flowers and pampas grass – extra points if you dye your dried flowers pastel colours! “I love taking advantage of glorious outdoor spaces and ceremony opportunities, especially at some of the gorgeous venues we have here in the south-west,” says Nikki. “Living in Torquay, there are palm trees everywhere so why not go for a lush tropical theme and take inspiration from boho Hawaiian weddings? This is a great look if you’re having a marquee or tipi wedding as you can create big impact with the larger floral leaves of tropical foliage to dress a blank canvas space or bring in trees and plants to create a really lush feel. The tropical look is also a great opportunity to add in strong pops of colour such as orange or yellow which look beautiful against all the dark greens.”

“This is one of my favourite ways to style a wedding and you can’t go wrong whatever time of year you’re getting hitched,” says Phoebe. “From springtime blooms bursting from the hedgerows and untamed long grasses and wildflowers in hazy summer to apple tree boughs in autumn – I draw a lot of inspiration from nature. I have designed a meadow tablescape installation with wildflowers and pops of joyful colour throughout to showcase my couple’s love for summer and picnics through to a cosy harvest feast featuring clashing colours fighting for space amongst hand-picked fruits and vegetables. Get your florist to go wild with seasonal flowers and foliage, and utilise any foraged, found or seasonal gifts that nature brings you during the season you’re getting married. I love a more muted pastel palette for winter and spring, and wildly bright and clashing in summer and autumn!”

Eclectic Accents
“I like things a little ‘undone’ and full of personality,” says Phoebe. “I love creating an abundance of quirky accents, whether it’s potted plants and succulents layered down a table set off by sparkling crystal, a ‘sign our vinyl’ guest book table complete with a gramophone, a vintage typewriter for guests to leave messages or a beer pong table for some afternoon fun. My favourite weddings are always woven with details reflecting the personalities of the couple: for example, book lovers could gift their favourite books as favours or stack them high as table centrepieces, while sports lovers could have a table plan created from cricket bats. My own wedding was filled with all the things my husband and I love, from guitars and surfboard signs to pineapples with flamingos poking out for centrepieces. Surround yourselves with the things that bring you happiness and your wedding will look and feel just like you!”

Go sustainable. Focus on sustainability, highlighting locally sourced products that emphasise your surroundings, drawing in light, natural colours, elements and shapes. And remember to hire vintage furniture and table décor rather than buying new.
Consider the height. Elevate your ceremony using raised observation decks for guests and eye-catching, free-standing ceremony backdrops with floral designs to frame your location and you.
Keep it simple. Use a focal point at your venue, such as a dramatic view, beautiful architecture or an eclectic piece of art sitting over a fireplace. Focus on statement furniture such as geometric ceremony arches, smooth round-edged ceremony backdrops, asymmetric flower displays and greenery. Keep it simple with clean, clear lines for table décor.
Think about texture. Create bespoke tablescapes layering colour with soft, breezy fabrics. Light, romantic colours make for an airy and heavenly backdrop. Finish with big blousy flowers.
Add light. Never underestimate the impact of lighting. Lanterns or glass pillar vases create a low-lit, intimate feel for ceremonies. Enhance your tablescapes with minimalist tea lights in decorative votives and cut glass or add some colour with tall, tapered and naturally dyed dinner candles.

“Maximalism is a great trend for couples who picture something different for their wedding day and want the chance to go a bit wild,” says Phoebe. “The beauty of this theme is anything goes and there’s no such thing as too much colour or too many patterns, which makes things really easy to source. However, it’s good to create moments of calm with a plain white dress or cake for example, which can look really striking against the patterns.”
