Brenda Reid: Letter of Recommendation Student Internship at Cumulus Architects Inc.
To whom it may concern, It was a pleasure having Brenda Reid with us at Cumulus for a student internship from January 2017 to August 2017. Brenda was an exceptional student intern. Her work ethic and dedication to the gaining experience with all aspects of professional practice was exemplary. The office was quick to recognize here abilities, her adaptability and willingness to contribute in all manners of project work. Brenda performed at the level of many young graduates despite still being a student. She was assigned significant roles on challenging projects including a major proposal for SickKids Hospital and design studies for the Kenora Casino, and most notably Michael Garron Hospital. This project was a Fast Track P3 Design RFP for a major hospital redevelopment. Brenda worked directly with the project lead, Patsy Poulin, and assisted with the with design documentation, program compliance, zoning and site plan diagrams as well as coordinating REVIT standards with consultants. She was also able to participate in project meetings and was an integral part of this intense pursuit team. Please call me directly should you wish to review her internship at Cumulus in more detail. We are all looking forward to the possibility of having Brenda back with us in future, and have no hesitation in recommending her for whatever opportunity she elects to pursue. Paul

To whom it may concern, I am very pleased to write this recommendation on behalf of Brenda Reid. Brenda is a dedicated architect and an absolute talent. She improved her design skills when taking part of our team at TANK. Moreover, she is sociable, propositive and open minded for any idea of other members. She is a responsible and hardworking person who brings joy into her work. An absolute pleasure to work with. For these reasons, I strongly recommend her for a position in an architectural office.
Warm regards, Menno Kooistra Founding partner

c e l s i u s p roj ect ABOUT
Celsius Project is the ceramic explorations of Brenda Reid. It focuses on ceramic design through experimentation and research. It is currently looking at homewares and decor and wondering how they can be improved.
PROCESS
The branding, product design, physical products, displays and marketing have all been a part of making Celsius Project. The ceramics are primarily wheelthrown with some hand-building and a budding interest in slip casting.
s c h o o l fo r pl ato CONCEPT
The temple, dedicated to Plato, is a physical manifestation of his book, The Republic: Book 7. As a highly conceptual project, it takes another look at education and dares to ask for a new architecture.
SITING
Originally situated on a fictitious ‘planet,’ (prior project) the site is relocated to Earth in the form of an island. It is placed just beyond the horizon, a 7km walk. The tunnel’s one degree slope is imperceivable, the students find themselves in the belly of the egg, ready to ascend to the light.
PROGRAM
The educational system follows Plato’s’ writing consisting of: Mathematics, Geometry, 3D Geometry, Astronomy and Harmonics, and finally Dialectics. The form follows the constraints of the site and the metaphor of the rebirth- the egg. 3B Studio Prof Thomas McIntosh FORREC Design Award of Excellence Outstanding Design Award 3B

SITING
The site, located immediately south of the Colosseum has a unique ability to provide some much needed relief from the intense pressure and crowds of Rome. It offers a place for the City, the Landscape, the Crowd, and the Individual.
PROGRAM
The project combines tourist focused program (food, information, and museums) with program interests for locals (temporary exhibitions, agricultural research, and library resources. The landscape is also partially designed for large volumes of people and flanked by sheltered, quieter and more intimate spaces, paths, and water features. There is a moment to rest. To soak your feet. To play. To sit under an olive tree.

PROCESS
To ‘hot-rod’ the kinder surprise toy, improving quality, design, function through construction and testing. 1. Must fit inside kinder egg 2. Must be larger than egg when assembled 3. Use more than 1 material The original egg came with a dragon head, flame ‘body’, and directions to assemble and throw. But wouldn’t it be better if it actually flew? 6 weeks were spent reinventing this dragon into an airplane - complete with night flight ability. Fabrication combined 3d modeling/ printing, laser-cutting, manual component building, and fife binding techniques. Farthest flight: 40ft
