Slow Decline Castlemaine House

Introduction For the Castlemaine House, the central focus was the existing site, with its steep decline slowed by various cuts and plateaus that define the predominately sandstone site. The natural geology of the site was the prevailing focus, which was interpreted through the notion of step and pleat for integrating a small-scale residency into the landscape. The house emerges from the landscape in stages, both externally through a retaining wall that forms the structure of the house, and through a progressive screen that enables the living areas to become gradually more internalised.

Marking the Ground Wales St. Primary School

Introduction Strategy for the Wales Street Primary School is preparing the ground condition for future growth and learning. The manipulation of the ground is to construct the site for new infrastructure to be accommodated, in the form of a library building and to organise and define the existing buildings on site as separate teaching ecologies with an individual learning philosophy. The existing precedent on site for marking the ground is for the activity of play, such as basketball etc. Boundaries exist for learning and event through the marking of the ground surface. The strategy is to apply this technique to the existing buildings through the re-levelling of the site, creating teaching ecologies that are re-defined through their relationship to one another.
