Coordinator’s Message
Welcome to Liberty Adult Education (LAE) As we enter into the New Year, Liberty Adult Education (LAE) proudly presents our 2021 Winter/Spring Catalog, which has many educational opportunities to advance your education and enrich your life. We are very optimistic that 2021 will be a positive new year! On October 21, 2020, our School Board voted unanimously to reopen our schools for on-site instruction starting January 2021 in an every-other-day hybrid (face-to-face and distance learning) model. In reopening the schools, we will be using the various safety guidance documents from the California Department of Public Health and Contra Costa Health Services (CCHS) through our County Office of Education. These agencies working through California’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy have now deemed it appropriate for schools to begin to reopen under specific guidelines and health orders. Our district will continue to work with the CCHS and monitor the Blueprint for a Safer Economy metrics prior to, during, and after the reopening. The health and safety of our staff, students, and community members is our biggest concern. No school may reopen under the
“widespread” or “purple” designation.
It is important to note, COVID-19 is a fluid situation that continuously provides new facts, which will require us to adjust accordingly. We are taking the necessary precautions to protect your health and safety when returning to our school campus and we urge everyone to follow guidelines and protocols set forth by the Liberty Union High School District Guidelines. u Six feet of physical distancing for all students and staff will be maintained at all times with no more than 12 – 15 students in a classroom at a time. The number may be lower depending on the classroom size to maintain the six feet of physical distance. u Depending on the class size, the class may be divided into cohorts (A day and B day. For example, cohort A may meet Tuesday during the scheduled time of the class and cohort B may meet Wednesday).
These are just examples; times/days will vary. u All students must wear a mask when on the school premises and maintain physical distancing while they remain at school. u If a student is not feeling well or has a family member who is not feeling well, they should not come to class. At LAE, you will find an engaging, supportive, and comfortable learning environment in which to learn and improve your quality of life. LAE is “Student-Centered” and has an amazing team of teachers and staff to help you achieve your goals. (See inside of the back cover.) Don’t forget your New Year’s Resolution…. Be kind to yourself and sign up for classes. We sincerely appreciate your support. Please feel free to contact us for more information regarding our services. – Debbie Norgaard, Coordinator, Adult Education
to Fina Pedroza and Sarah Singrin on their retirements! Fina has worked for Liberty Adult Education for over 30 years.
She has impacted the lives of so many of our students over these years. She has been especially helpful to our ESL department with special projects, making countless phone calls, and always willing to work with students one-on-one with their class assignments.
Sarah has worked for LUHSD for over 12
years. Six out of those twelve years, she worked in our Adult Education Office. Sarah has always been very encouraging to all our students, especially students coming in for GED testing; she has also been a great asset and resource for our teachers assisting in special projects or just making phone calls. Thank you for your dedication to our students and all of your contributions to our program. We wish you well in the next chapter of your lives. You both will be truly missed by all.
