Vision
“Remember your first pair of blue jeans? Chances are you’ve had many incarnations of these handy pants, but I would wager, most of them have been a shade of indigo. According to Levi legend, the first blue jean was manufactured in 1873. I have some in my closet, almost that old. The beauty of this indigo pigment is it coordinates with just about anything. Thus, in decorating it’s a good “go to” shade to bring depth & interest into a room. As an organic compound, indigo portrays a natural, bold beauty yet it is a comfortable & distinctive accent that endures.” Our talented artists and designers featured in our Bon Art/Good Arts Collection incorporate this striking shade into a wide range of themes.

MARIETTA COHEN Some of Marietta Cohen’s earliest memories involve drawing and painting. Born and raised in communist Bulgaria, there were no opportunities for individual expression, but she clearly remembers the joy and eagerness with which she anticipated her drawing classes. By the age of twelve, she had decided to become an artist.
After graduation from the high school of fine arts, she studied textile design in Moscow and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia. Following the fall of communism she moved with her family to Israel where she received a Bachelor of Arts in textile design. She worked for several years as a textile designer all over the world: Israel, France, Germany and then after moving to the United States, San Diego and San Francisco. Still, she always had a yearning to return to her first love, painting. About her approach to her work, she says, “When I first look at the white canvas I always feel the same thrill. What adventure lies ahead? Will there be obstacles or will everything come out smoothly? The designer in me helps find the balance between the decorative and the exquisite.”
