Exploring Plane and Solid Shapes

BY MS. BRETTE FIEDELMAN

Preface Hello! I am Ms. Brette Fiedelman. I am currently working towards a double major of Elementary and Special Education at Indiana University. I hope to become a 2nd grade educator. This eBook was created for 2nd graders to learn about Plane and Solid Shapes.

Important Definitions

C HAPTER 1

Plane Shapes A plane shape is a closed, two dimensional, or flat figure.

Examples of Plane Shapes R ECTANGLE A rectangle is a shape with four sides and four corners, opposite sides are the same length. It has one face, four edges and four vertices.

S QUARE A square is a rectangle in which all four sides are of equal length. A circle is a round shape that has no sides or corners. It has one face, four edges and four vertices.

Click the pencil to draw something you might see in real life with both of these shapes! An example for the rectangle could be a truck. A square can be found on a house as a window.

C IRCLE A circle is a round shape that has no sides or corners. It has one face and no edges or vertices.

Click the pencil to draw something you might see in real life with both of these shapes! An example for the triangle could be a a piece of pizza and the circle could be the whole pizza!
