WE’VE FOUND THAT THERE ARE 3 BASIC TYPES OF SLALOM SKIERS BASED ON THEIR ENVIRONMENT AND PREFERENCE. For example: if you enjoy slaloming the course, turning buoys, and going for gold at tournaments you’ll need a different ski setup than someone who enjoys cruising the big lakes and rivers and ripping turns in the open water. “But I like to do all of those things!” you say? Well, we make skis specific to cross-over types as well. No matter where, when, or how you ski, we make a line specifically tailored for you!

A Course Skier skis primarily in the slalom course and in the tournament arena. Their ski feature needs include tight angle turns and responsive agility to handle maximum speed and load.

A Cross Skier skis part time in courses and part time in the open water. This skier aspires to move up to the course arena or often skis at settings where no course is available. Their ski feature needs include efficiency and versatility.

A Free skier skis primarily in open water such as big lakes and rivers. Their ski feature needs include carve-ability and range, as their ski needs to cut through the most diverse waters and keep the ride smooth and free.

V-TYPE R SKI TECHNOLOGY DESIGN PHILOSOPHY ELLIPTICAL ROCKER The V-TYPE R rocker line is designed with a progressively changing elliptical arc. The result is a large radius arc in the center of the ski, for improved fore/aft stability and increased velocity, with smaller radii arcs in the tip and the tail for quick, tight radius turns.

CARBON FIBER SPEEDSKIN New for 2016, HO Skis has taken the highly successful laminar textured ski base, SpeedSkin, and applied it directly to the carbon fiber base of the Syndicate skis! A strategically located tip weight combined with an elastomer damping pad, dampens the natural frequency of the ski’s shovel for increased stability. This system reduces tip “chatter” or “feedback”, that can be caused by rough water at high speeds, resulting in a more confidence inspiring “quiet” feel for the skier.

MATCHING SKI WIDTH When a water ski is rolled onto edge, it is balancing on the arc created by rocker line and ski width. In order to make the worlds most balanced water ski, the V-TYPE R's rocker and ski width match! A parallel ski width matches the lower rocker in the center of the ski. Increased tip and tail ski widths match the more curved tip and tail arcs of the elliptical rocker. CROSS-OVER DESIGN PHILOSOPHY Over Collection marries the high performance design of a Syndicate ski, with the ultra-efficient Clean Edge technology of a Freeride ski. The all new 2016 HO design team began with a record-breaking Syndicate ski design, increased the surface area of the ski by one ski size from the tip of the ski to the just behind the heel of the rear foot. Behind the rear foot the skis transition from traditional to futuristic, as the sidewalls rotate inward like a wakeboard edge and ski bevels disappear in the tail section of the ski. The combination of these two features allows the water to release cleanly off the bottom of the ski, as opposed to the traditional ski design in which water wraps around the bevel of the ski, up the sidewall and releases of the upper edge of the ski, thereby reducing the drag associated with this portion of the ski by 50%. Clean Edge technology is a step into the modern age of ski design and the lack of physical effort required to ride these skis will forever change a skier’s perception of what is possible. HO Skis imagines a world where every body of water can be skied! The Freeride was created to do just that! The completely out-of-the-box design of the Freeride has rewritten the rules for water ski speeds, boats and water conditions. The water ski future is now wide open. Where will you take your skiing?

CLEAN EDGE LOCATION Why does only half of my Freeride have CleanEdge? Clean Edge is a revolutionary technology that reduces drag by 50% over traditional skis. Less drag equals more lift and it is the lift on the rear 50% of the Freeride’s running length that allows it to be skied at wake boards speeds with low drag, low spray and low effort. From under the skiers front foot, up through the forebody of the ski, the Freeride utilizes a traditional slalom ski edge design. This traditional edge has greater drag, less lift and as a result rides deeper in the water for the stable, traditional feel skiers covet.

FREERIDE DESIGN PHILOSOPHY CLEAN EDGE TECHNOLOGY Clean Edge Technology is the backbone of each and every HO Freeride ski. This revolutionary ski technology allows skiers to ski behind any boat, at any speed, in any water condition. The beveled edge of a traditional water ski allows water to wrap around the bottom of the ski and up the sidewall where it finally releases off the ski’s top edge. Clean Edge Technology is bevel-less and the sidewalls are rotated inward like a wakeboard edge. The combination of these two design features causes water to release cleanly off the bottom surface of the Freeride resulting in a 50% less drag than conventional skis. By having 50% less drag than a conventional ski, skiers are now able to slow the boat down to wakeboard speeds and enjoy skiing without sinking and having to deal with excessive spray and drag. This opens the possibility of skiing behind all types of boats; inboards, outboards, I/O’s, personal water craft and even cable parks. In addition, this effortless skiing at reduced speeds allows skiers to easily negotiate any reasonable type of water condition. This reopens the door to bodies of water once forgotten for water skiing and allows skiers to ride together in harmony with our wake brethren once again. Live free and ski!

Traditional slalom course water skis have rounded-off bevels, mellow entry concaves and stiff flexes because they are designed to be slide around the buoy as much as carve. The Freeride is a carving machine! Clean Edge Technology, the steep-entry-concave, and Shark Fin provide unmatched edge hold, for pure carved turns. Similar to a snow ski, skiers are actually bending the Freeride into a more rockered shape to turn it. As a result, HO designed the Freeride Flex with a snow-ski-inspired flex pattern to allow effortless carves every time.

Combining the art of traditional “old world” lasting techniques with cutting edge footwear materials, HO has created the industry’s best fitting, most comfortable collection of water ski boots. The addition of HO’s DirectConnect Mounting System pushes water ski boot performance to a new level, unobtainable with traditional boot plates. The traditional boot plate, with its perimeter mounted hardware, creates an artificially leveraged slalom ski. As the skier’s center of mass shifts off the side of the ski in a typical slalom cut, the traditional boot plate imparts an abrupt push and pull force on the ski's edges. Similar to a light switch, the ski is either “on" or “off” edge. HO’s DirectConnect Mounting System replaces the traditional light switch with a modern dimmer switch! Imagine have ability to control the exact edge angle you desire, without being limited to the binary on/off edge pressure of a traditional boot plate. Just like an airplane rolls about its longitudinal axis, HO’s DirectConnect allows a slalom ski to roll about is longitudinal axis. The result is a natural edge angle feel where the skier is in completely control to choose desired edge angle.

Don’t let the marketing department fool you, no floating plate system eliminates a traditional boot plate’s effect on ski flex. HO’s DirectConnect System reduces the ski boot’s flex footprint dead spot by up to 50%. With DirectConnect, the ski is allowed to flex more closely to its intended design, allowing for smoother and tighter slalom turns.

MICRO ADJUSTMENT DIRECT CONNECT MOUNTING SYSTEM Direct Connect positions boot mounting hardware directly beneath the foot’s natural balance and mobility centers: the heel and ball of the foot. Direct Connect eliminates the traditional mounting plate, greatly reducing boot weight, boot drag, and the boot’s impact on ski flex. The result is a natural 1:1 skier-to-ski moment-of-inertia never experienced before on the water. Direct Connect allows the entire MAX Ski Boot Collection to redefine what can be expected from a water ski boot.

INFINITE FORE & AFT ADJUSTMENT

For years slalom skiers have been able to adjust fin location to the thousandth of an inch. But at the same time, skiers have been limited to large incremental boot adjustment, due to the mounting holes on traditional boot plates. Not anymore! HO’s DirectConnect Mounting System allows skiers infinite fore and aft boot adjustment. Now skiers can fine tune boot position as accurately as fin location, ensuring optimum ski setup. In addition, DirectConnect allows for up to +/7 degrees of boot rotation. The days of limiting your natural slalom stance, due to your boot plate hanging over the side of the ski, are over!
