ORIGAMIC WALL
creating separation through ventilation and modularity DESIGN STUDIO
FALL 2011
INSTRUCTOR: TRISHA OTTE
The origamic wall was inspired by my passion for the art of origami. This project called for the creation of an architectural separation between a busy sidewalk and a quiet courtyard. A stepped entrance was required as well as a series of hand rails. The driving force for this design was constructive simplicity.
In theory the entire wall could be transported to the site in one trip on one truck bed. The origamic wall would then unfold like an accordion and then be erected upright. A crease pattern was designed to produce a model that could be constructed from a single sheet of bristol board, using only subtractive cuts and folding.
AKSARBEN COURTHOUSE
redefining how judicial architecture is experienced by the public DESIGN STUDIO
SPRING 2012
INSTRUCTOR: MICHAEL HAMILTON
The courthouse project was my first architectural design. The project brief called for a judicial structure that went beyond the programmatic norm by including mixed used features. Of the four floors, the design consists of: three courtrooms, a library, retail, a cafe, offices, holding cells, atrium space, lounge space and
conference rooms. The architecture is pulled apart to allow light to penetrate deeper into the spaces, creating a lively interior that one might not expect to find in a standard courthouse. This breach was created ,in essence, to expose the world of judicial law to the public in order to make the architecture open and inviting.
VIVACITY LIFECARE
re-establishing healthcare as lifecare DESIGN STUDIO
FALL 2014
INSTRUCTOR: WAYNE DRUMMOND
Vivacity Detroit is about merging the familiar with the unfamiliar - Life and Healthcare. The gap between these disparate worlds causes discomfort for the potential patient. The cold and stringent interiors of common hospitals leave the user feeling distant and estranged in the
healthcare environment. Vivacity Detroit innovatively ignores the status quo of healthcare architecture. Vivacity is not healthcare, it is lifecare: familiarizing the public with health services in a cohesive manner that merges the boundaries between the two.
TOWER 834
combining retail, office, residential, and a new scoop on daylighting DESIGN STUDIO
SPRING 2015
INSTRUCTOR: STEVE HARDY
Tower 834 is the result of a graduate design research studio that involved heavy precedent research into office towers and their various programmatic arrangements. These arrangements involved retail, residential and standard office space. Research led to understanding vertical circulation core arrangements. Centrally loaded cores were my alloted responsibility, and eventually influenced the final outcome of Tower 834, which is located in Chi-
cago. The three programs of retail, office, and residential were stacked respectively, giving the tower a large-scale tripartite division. Additional research was done to understand how modifying architectural form can be used as a method of increasing the daylighting benefits to building occupants, even if the tower footprint is directly between two adjacent buildings.

MUNROE MEYER
architecturally re-defining longterm care DESIGN STUDIO
FALL2015
INSTRUCTOR: SHEILA BARNWELL
(http://www.archdaily.com/780957/how-university-construction-projects-offer-opportunities-to-reform-architecture-education)
The Munroe-Meyer Institute is one of the leading centers in the Midwest that focuses on the longterm treatment of the developmentally disabled. UNMC’s current facility is outdated and an unorganized mix of additions that lack a cohesive unity. The graduate healthcare studio focused on proposing new location options as well as a new design that could better provide care for the population of the developmentally disabled. The stages of concept and
schematic design were done individually, then we were all paired with an interior design partner. I had the great opportunity to work with Ruth Barenkevich, a talented designer who worked well in both interior and exterior design. Together, Ruth and I developed a proposal that became one of several to be featured on the architecture website ArchDaily.

HAMILTON HALL
offering a new interior solution to a new type of chemistry ARCHITECTURAL INTERN
SUMMER 2014
ARCHITECTURE FIRM:
Hamilton Hall is the primary host of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln’s Chemistry program. The 4th floor of its north wing is currently being used as storage space. HDR was hired to do conceptual and schematic design for the implementation of a new computational chemistry lab. I was given the responsibility of completing all design deliverables. These deliverables consisted of:
renderings, 3d models, schematic floor plans, construction documents, and proposal boards. Working alongside Michael Hamilton (design architect) and David Hinsley (project architect), we submitted over 20 different schematic options in a small 2 week period. The final solution was a compromise between a high-end option and a low-budget option.

MANTER HALL
bringing light and attention to an old biology building ARCHITECTURAL INTERN
SUMMER 2014
ARCHITECTURE FIRM:
Manter Hall is one of UNL’s facilities that focuses on the biological sciences. HDR was hired to renovate the ground floor and 4th floor. A fellow intern and I worked together with Michael Hamilton (Design Architect) and David Hinsely (Project Architect). The concept for the renovation aimed to elicit the clean and sterile environment of many biology labs, while at the same time convey a contemporary design aesthetic that
students would thrive in. My responsibilities required me to remodel portions of the central Revit file in Rhinoceros 3d. I then rendered several views to present to UNL’s facilities and planning department. I was also heavily involved in the design of the custom reception desk on the 4th floor and the custom benches on the first floor.
T.N.C. NIOBRARA
creating a way to architecturally experience the sandhills ARCHITECTURAL INTERN
SUMMER 2014
ARCHITECTURE FIRM:
The Nature Conservancy’s Niobrara Valley Preserve is one of the largest preserves in the United States. With such a stature as this, the client hired HDR to develop a contemporary design that would act as the center for the Conservancy’s operations in Nebraska. The design needed to aesthetically blend with the rural environment of the prairie while simultaneously
drawing the tourist’s eye. The original conceptual design was lead by William DeRoin, a design architect. I was tasked with reworking the initial design - interior and exterior - for AIA submissions. The resulting renders and diagrams were produced using V-ray for Rhino and Adobe Photoshop.
