whole body center 3rd year studio

The Whole Body Center is a neighborhood based fitness center located within the crossroads district of Kansas City, Mo. After extensive study, it was determined that this structure had the opportunity to serve as a catylist for western growth within the district. The program called major elements such as a rock climbing wall and wellness area, both highlighted within the hierarchy of the structure. With a distinctive form, attention was then given to the surrounding community as the building respects scale, yet serves as a landmark for the district. Focus was then given to the structure and documentation of the building through a comprehensive set of construction documents and innovative details.

Nestled behind the Sunset Drive Office Building in Olathe, Kansas sits a series of trails weaving throughout wooded areas. As this LEED building opens out for a connection to nature, the civic agencies housed indoors requested the need for an outdoor gathering space. With the possession of reclaimed glulam beams through the county, the reuse of these special pieces of wood began to drive the project design. Originally conceptualized by El Dorado Inc, our visiting design build firm, modifications were made and the overall design altered to be constructed in the spring. As an exercise in project management, construction methods, and documentation, the project is underway with expectations to be completed in early April.

alma park + pool graduate design build studio

Located in the along the northern tip of the tall grass prairie, this small town of 830 is distinctively unique from the average midwestern city. With only 4% of the prairie landscape remaining, important design consideration was given to educate the next generation of this small town about their diminishing landscape. The city of Alma was approached by our design build studio to bring new life into their outdated city park and pool. Through programing, it was apparent there needed to be more shade, seating, and accessibility within the pool, characteristics we wanted to carry on throughout the park. Our design build team wanted to honor the clients budget and requested scope of work, while offering a proposed master plant to the city for future development. Furthermore, we wanted to establish a place of interest in Alma, a core the town could celebrate. Currently a modified version of this design is in construction.

dock house 1st year studio

The Dock House focused on the fundamental concepts of architecture, and emphasized creativity within the constraints of a cube structure. The main goal of the design process was to bring about clarity within order, as well as emphasize the surrounding environment. A dock form was chosen to merge the water to the site symbolically and physically. Operable windows and furniture were designed to maximize interior space while opening the entire structure to the outdoors.

furniture design I like to work with my hands. I firmly believe a pencil, mouse, and tool are all extensions of a designer's mind, as the concept of design has no boundaries. Pursuing a hobby of mine, I began to fabricate furniture and other woodworking projects. A unique bedside table was created with the intention of creating a dialog between two contrasting materials, wood and steel. CNC precision cut joinery combined an appreciation for craftsmanship with the utilization of modern technology. My next adventure puts me in the process of completing a one off chair. An adjustable chair buck was constructed to find the relationships between different angles and user comfort. Currently I am in the conceptual process with goals to complete in late spring.

meet the designer The intent of this portfolio is to express a little more about myself through some of my design projects. As I strive to learn more about the field of architecture I am constantly reflecting my sense of genuine energy, enthusiasm, and creativity into all that I do. Hopefully you have enjoyed just a small example of works I have completed over the course of the last 5 years. I appreciate your time and look forward to further discussing possible design opportunities.
