A specialized “Motorcycle Safety Enforcement Operation” was held this week in an aggressive effort to lower deaths and injuries. Extra officers were deployed throughout Norwalk this week that targeted areas where frequent crashes take place. During the past several months, Norwalk officials have been cracking down on those motorcyclists who ride under the influence of drugs or alcohol, who is speeding in traffic and who make illegal turns, or any other dangerous violations. Motorcycle fatalities saw a phenomenal drop of 37 percent from 2008 to 2010, but rose nearly 18 percent in 2011 city officials said in a statement.

CITY MANAGER EXITS JOB
By Randy Economy and Brian Hews (Lynwood) Hews Media Group-Community News (HMG-CN) obtained a 72page confidential document in the mail this week that outlines in great detail the results an “administrative investigation” that was conducted by Irvine Attorney Jeffrey B. Love out of Orange County. The private investigation concluded that Lynwood Mayor Salvador Alatorre violated various city laws and ethical standards against City Manager Roger Haley after the two individuals engaged
an attack from a massive shark. Resident Evonne Cashman, 56, sustained several bites from a shark that landed her in a Maui hospital bed one week ago. The horrific ordeal has been reported by media outlets around the world and has gone viral on the internet. “It happened so fast. I didn’t see him coming. I didn’t see him leave. The shark just came and hit me hard, and bit me hard; and I took off swimming to the shore as fast as I could,” said Cashman. Cashman was bitten by what doctors estimate was a 20 to 25-foot shark. She had several deep wounds on her arms, back, legs, and other areas. One doctor who treated her told media in Hawaii that she “was lucky to be alive.” Officials with the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources said they are still conducting an investigation and have not yet made an informed determination on the size or type of shark involved. Cashman gave several television interviews from her hospital room in Maui including to the website www.mauinow. com who dramatically documented her

Residents’ Concerns on ABC School Board Walmart Store Delivery Member James Kang Drops Bid For Reelection Operations Have to Wait By Randy Economy
By Rico Dizon
In a move that has caught many local political observers off guard, ABC Unified School District Board Member James Kang confirmed to Hews Media GroupCommunity News on Tuesday that he will not be a candidate for reelection in this November’s campaign. Kang, who was elected in 2009, told HMG – CN in an interview that he was “happy to be a school board member, but for the time being, I will concentrate on my family’s well-being.” Kang also said that “I will not be negligent and not watch over the community’s well-being and to share my opinion if it is necessary.” At least two Cerritos residents, Soo Yoo and Daniel Fierro have already taken the legal steps to be candidates in the fall campaign. The Los Angeles County Registrar of Voters will be legally obligated to extend the filing period to next Wednesday, April 14 at 5 p.m. Incumbent ABC School Board Members Olympia Chen and Linda Johnson have already filed for reelection. “As a public servant, I have worked hard to achieve student’s success, to build up parent’s leadership, and to encourage teacher’s readiness during the past four years,” Kang said. “As a result, the API score of ABC School students has improved 50 points or more, and the District’s ranking has gone up two steps higher amongst all of the Los Angeles County Unified School Districts,” Kang said. Kang said he has “not decided” who to support and endorse in the campaign. “I need to wait and see who is going to be running after the filing closes. Then, I will talk to the candidates and then offer my support to the one I feel is most qualified.” Johnson said in a statement regarding Kang’s decision not to seek reelection, “I have had the pleasure to have worked with James since I have been on the board. I thank him for his service to the students, schools and communities of the ABC USD.” Fierro said that he “wishes James well in his future plans,” and that he and Kang have not had the opportunity to sit down together to “talk about the campaign.” “He should take pride in what he was accomplished during the past four years on the ABC School Board,” Fierro said. Now with Kang out of the race, Fierro said that he will continue to focus his campaign on talking to the voters for the next several weeks. “Nothing changes, as far as I am concern, our campaign is focused and on target,” Fierro said. Kang ran for the Cerritos City in the March of this year, finishing far behind winners George Ray and Carol Chen.
“Too close for comfort.” This old adage spells the situation that some La Palma residents are experiencing right now since the Walmart Neighborhood Store in La Palma started operations in May of this year. From all indications the residents have to live for sometime with the disturbance after over a month and at least three meetings with Walmart representatives and the City Council since they voiced their indignations over the store’s operations that ruffled their quality of life. This is the impression one gets after listening to the report by La Palma Director for Community Development Douglas Dumhart and the personal observations shared by affected resident Rene Buchanan during the last City Council meeting last Aug. 6. Buchanan who lives at De Vries Lane and whose home is right beside the Walmart delivery area said, “this certainly is not a quick fix.” For example, a recom-
mendation that appears in the City Council meeting agenda on Aug. 6 is “to adopt a resolution approving a building permit fee waiver for first in homeowners to raise their fence height and/or install noise reduction windows/and or doors.” In the first place, the idea to raise their 5ft wall is not even workable and highly dangerous because the wall’s width is only 3 inches, the report said. “The existing wall has to be demolished and put up a new higher wall”, said Dumhart. Rene asked, “where will the money come from as we do not have the money to finance the construction of a new high-rise wall.” Another recommendation is to adopt a resolution establishing truck delivery hours and no parking/stopping in the alley behind 5410-5482 La Palma Avenue. Again, this is something that is just too difficult to implement as it will have to change the California Vehicle Code as attested by the City Attorney. The community development director posted a sign to warn Walmart delivery trucks of the prohibitive hours. As it turned out, the sign was posted right at the alley and confuses the truck drivers, Buchanan reported during the city council meeting. She said the drivers were confused over the No Delivery before 7 AM and after 10 PM signs. As a result, she said the trucks are parked in the area overlooking our private home and yard while waiting for
AUG 9, 2013
the allowed time to unload. She can also hear the load conversations of drivers over their 5 feet fence. She said the sign should be posted out in the streets along La Palma Ave. and Walker St. to warn drivers not to proceed to the alley yet before 7 A.M. and after 10 P.M. Councilman Henry Charoen asked Walmart Public Affairs Director Aaron Rios who came to the meeting “to help educate their truck drivers in complying with the truck delivery ordinance. “We don’t want to give tickets to your truck drivers said the smiling councilmember.” The ticket costs $27. In regards to other complaints that Walmart employees “hang around” in the delivery area during breaktime, Dumhart said the store agreed to lock the door leading to said area. As for the use of the compressor which produces a very loud noise, this has to be evaluated, he said. Concerns over the security cameras in the area whose view range expose the privacy of the homes adjacent to the store’s unloading area, Dumhart said he was told by Walmart that the camera lens are fixed. Asked by Councilman Gerard Goedhart if she thinks the situation improved, Buchanan answered, “yes but it is not perfect.” Her facial expression and body language though seem to communicate, “it is far from satisfactory.”

Letter from James Kang, ABCUSD Board Member As you have read in this newspaper, I have decided not to run in the upcoming school board election scheduled for November. I hope the next board member will continue to work to improve academic achievement in the ABC Unified School District. As a public servant, I have worked hard to achieve student’s success, to build up parent’s leadership, and to encourage teacher’s readiness during the past four years. As a result, the API score of the ABC School Students has improved 50 points or more, and the District’s ranking has gone up two steps higher amongst all of the Los Angeles County Unified School Districts. This is the combined effort that has come from the collaborated work of all the members of the ABC Unified School District. And I am very proud of being a board member who helped achieve such a wonderful academic performance. For the time being, I will be concentrating on my family’s well being, but I will not be negligent and not watch over the community’s well-being and to share my opinion if it is necessary. Thank you all who have had faith in me and continuously supported me in my work as a public servant. May God Bless You All. James Kang

BINMALEY CATHOLIC New Norwalk Principal Looks Forward HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI to ‘Mighty’ School Year GLOBAL REUNION SET The new incoming principal at Benton AUG. 17 Middle School may seem like your typical mild-mannered administrator. In reality, however, Michael Gotto has morphed out of something completely different. Gotto – the former John Glenn High School dean of students and assistant principal of curriculum and instruction – was once a Mighty Morphin Power Ranger. In the classic children’s TV show, “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers,” the evil Master Vile turned the teen martialartist good guys into children. At 11 years old, Gotto was cast as Young Tommy, the white ranger. “I was an actor while I was in middle school,” Gotto said. “So, I believe that I can relate to my students who are also pursuing their passions in the visual and performing arts arenas.” While the lure of Hollywood is irresistible to many, Gotto had bigger dreams to become an educator, like so many who had inspired him over the years. “I’m the first in my family to have gone to college,” Gotto said. “In fact, neither of my parents graduated high school. There were specific teachers and counselors who made an enormous impact on me and guided me through my educational journey.” After high school, Gotto earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Pepperdine University, and a master’s degree from Claremont Graduate University, where he also earned his single-subject teaching credential in English. Gotto started his career teaching high school English and quickly advanced to dean of students in 2011 and then assistant principal at John Glenn High School. He also spent a year teaching English in Hong Kong. “Michael has a background as school administrator, teacher and performer,” said Superintendent Dr. Ruth Pérez. “He is the perfect choice to work at Benton as he will bring all those skills to the table, as well as act as a wonderful role model to the students.” Gotto – a musician who has also played venues such as the Roxy, Whiskey A-Go-Go and House of Blues – said he looks forward to working with the extremely talented students and staff at Benton, a visual and performing arts school. “Performing is my passion, and so is education,” Gotto said. “I really get to see my two worlds emerging into one at Benton.”

Dinner buffet will start at 7:30 p.m. Binmaley is a first class fishing town along the central coastland of Pangasinan between Dagupan City to the north and the capital town of Lingayen to the south. Binmaley known for its bangus (aqua culture) fishponds and furniture making industry has a population of 98,430. The town designated as the yellow beach is part of the landing operations of U.S. General Douglas MacArthur’s amphibious forces to liberate Luzon from Japanese occupation. Lakewood Councilwoman DuBois Elected Chair of Metro Transit Authority By Randy Economy
Lakewood Councilwoman Diane DuBois is the new Chair of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation.
For the first time in the long history of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority an elected official from the City of Lakewood has been tapped to lead the agency. Lakewood Mayor Diane DuBois was elected to become the chair of the powerful LAC MTA by a vote of its directors
last month. DuBois will continue to serve as a Lakewood council member during her one-year term as MTA chair. “I’m excited and look forward to a successful year as chair,” said DuBois. “We will concentrate on continuing to design and implement Measure R projects and growing the transportation opportunities in Los Angeles County for accessibility to all corners of the region.” “I’m really proud for Diane,” said Lakewood Mayor Steve Croft, “and I’m proud for Lakewood and our region. It’s the first time ever that a representative from Lakewood or any of our Gateway Region cities has been the MTA board chair. I think her MTA colleagues found out what Lakewood residents and council members have known for a long time— that Diane is intelligent, cares about people and good public policy, and is great to work with.” MTA is the third largest public transportation agency in the United States, operating six subway and light-rail lines and 191 bus routes (with 2,200 buses) spread across the vast reaches of L.A. County. MTA does all this work with more than 9,000 employees. DuBois will help guide a 13-member voting board of directors that is composed of the five Los Angeles County Supervisors, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Duarte Councilman John Fasana, Glendale Councilman Ara Najarian, Santa Monica Mayor Pam O’Connor, Los Angeles Councilman Paul Krekorian, Los Angeles City Councilman Mike Bonin, and City of Los Angeles Appointee Jacquelyn Dupont-Walker. In 2009, DuBois was selected to be the MTA representative from the Gateway Cities area of southeastern L.A. County that covers a wide swatch of municipalities. “We need to get people off of the freeways and onto the trains,” DuBois said during a meeting of the MTA Board on July 25th.

partments, to identify some of the best practices in use by police, to strengthen the accountability of police to the local citizens whom they serve and to promote human rights standards. The visitors use a special kit developed by Altus to guide their visit, following protocols that are the same around the world. These kits provided guidelines for how to conduct visits, and questions that were used to evaluate each station, based on their observations. These findings were calculated into scores via Altus’ global website, and overall station scores were determined using five basic categories: community orientation, physical conditions, equal treatment of the public, transparency and accountability, and detention conditions. Immediately after each visit, the visitors answered 20 questions about what they observed. The scores are based on visitors’ individual perceptions about the police stations. Expectations for police service vary across countries and within localities. As a result, the scores measure the extent to which visitors perceive the police in particular stations to be meeting or even exceeding local expectations in globally comparable areas of service.
“We describe our vision of public safety as Education Based Policing (EBP) because we closely communicate with the public and educate them on current crime trends and how they are instrumental in successful crime prevention. Our residents actively engage in our public safety vision and join us in our crime fighting efforts. We attribute all of our successes to the team effort of our entire community. We are very proud of the work we do, and this recognition is an accolade that all of our personnel and residents will hold in high esteem, said Captain Keith E. Swensson, Station Commander, Cerritos Station. “Cerritos Station was designed to provide true community policing, which is also why it is called the Cerritos Community Safety Center. We pride ourselves on having very little crime, and our residents consistently express their feelings of safety and service, Swensson continued. “All of the staff at Cerritos Station work closely with community members, and while we serve 49,000 residents, our station strives to maintain a small town feel whereby all residents feel comfortable contacting and working with us at all times, said Swensson.
the White House, celebrating the outstanding efforts of Hawaiian Gardens and other communities to complete health and wellness goals over the past year for Let’s Move! Cities, Towns and Counties (LMCTC). LMCTC calls upon local elected officials to adopt sustainable and holistic strategies that improve access to healthy, affordable food and opportunities for physical activity. Since joining LMCTC, Hawaiian Gardens’ Let’s Move! efforts include being awarded three medals for action taken to improve access to healthy affordable food
and increase opportunities for physical activity. These medals were awarded because of Hawaiian Garden’s achievements in having an active interagency collaboration on early care and education programs and for having a majority of public schools participating in the school breakfast program. Locally, the following stakeholders have contributed to the progress that Hawaiian Gardens has made: Activate Hawaiian Gardens and ABC Unified School District. “Hawaiian Gardens is proud of this recognition by First Lady Michelle Obama and the ‘Let’s Move! Cities, Towns and Counties’ Campaign, said Mayor Pro Tem Mike Gomez. “Our residents and the whole community are proud to be commended for our hard work and progress
towards being a recognized healthy community and for our perennial efforts to combat the obesity epidemic. “We’re just beginning this journey, said First Lady Michelle Obama. “I am confident that if we keep doing what we’re doing, we are going to end this epidemic, and we’re not only going to make our kids healthier, but, as we see with the data, our communities are going to be stronger. “The League of Cities appreciates the support and energy of the First Lady for her tireless efforts to reduce the obesity epidemic facing our communities, said National League of Cities’ Executive Director, Clarence Anthony. He continued, “We congratulate all the local elected officials who participated in the event and are playing an instrumental role in providing our nation’s children with a healthier future. When children grow up in cities, towns and counties that promote healthy development, they become productive and healthy adults, contributing to the prosperity of our communities. LMCTC is a major component of First Lady Michelle Obama’s comprehensive Let’s Move! initiative, which is dedicated to solving the childhood obesity epidemic within a generation. A total of 330 cities, towns and counties from 46 states and the District of Columbia, which collectively represent more than 56 million Americans, have committed to the initiative’s five goals. NLC has awarded more than 1,000 bronze, silver and gold “medals to recognize local elected officials who have made progress in achieving these goals.

Continued from page 1 million sexual harassment claim filed by another vendor for the District. Apodaca represents the cities of La Habra Heights, La Mirada, Norwalk, Santa Fe Springs, Whittier and South Whittier. An audit of invoices and statements received by HMG-CN indicate that between 2003 and 2004, invoices for floral arrangements were submitted by, and paid directly to Apodaca’s “wife” Caroline Medrano. In 2006 until 2008, Medrano again submitted invoices for the same services; however, payments were issued to B. Marshall & Co. The address on those invoices listed a Whittier home located at 8633 Ocean View Ave. Medrano and Apodaca have resided since 1998 about a mile away on Sargent Ave. in Whittier. HMG-CN investigation into B. Marshall & Co. has proved ellusive. Beginning again in 2010 until as recently as this past April 4th, invoices submitted to the District have again reappeared in the name of Medrano. HMG-CN also noted that all invoices appearing in Medrano’s name appeared to have her remitting address redacted. Sources at Central Basin claim that was done at the request of Director Bob Apodaca presumably to avoid providing conclusive proof that he and Medrano reside together. The files document several large invoices for floral arrangements ordered specifically for events where Apodaca was featured proximately including his 2008 Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) which Apodaca ran for as a candidate representing Special Districts in 2007, a 2007 $1,500 invoice to celebrate Apodaca’s 2006 Central Basin reelection that revealed 52 separate centerpieces and vase arrangements. By comparrison, former Director Rudy Montalvo also celebrated his board appointment installation in 2007 that featured only 7 arrangements at a cost of only $189.44. Other charges included $2,911.93 for two Central Basin BBQ’s held in 2006 and 2007 while Apodaca was President as well as a floral arrangement given to former Central Basin employee Gil Cedillo Jr. in celebration of “National Administrative Assistant Day” in 2010. HMG-CN was the first to report Cedillo Jr.’s annual salary of $112,970 as well as being paid $22,000 up front to attain a job-required college education. Cedillo Jr. was eventually terminated last week by the District with six additonal weeks of severance. The most recent charge that appears was dated April 4, 2013 for a “funeral service floral arrangement” sent to Ernie Camacho in Pasadena. Camacho is President and CEO of Pacifica Services, Central Basin’s longtime engineering management service provider that was sued by the District in Superior Court last month for fraud, breach of contract and deceit. Camacho and Pacifica have long been at the center of controversy at the District for having received 8 consecutive contract amendments and extensions that were not subject to a re-
quired open bidding process. It is also acknowledged that Caroline Medrano is the cousin of Ernie Camacho and that Bob Apodaca has repeatedly been questioned about his practice of not recusing himself from voting in support of Central Basin contracts reportedly to be in excess of $5 million since 2007. The invoice for the floral arrangement sent to Camacho in April indicates it was requested by Board President James Roybal. Roybal also voted not to sue Pacifica and was the recipient of $5,000 in campaign donations from Ernie Camacho. Bob Apodaca’s campiagn records indicate that he has received in excess of $50,000 in campaign support from Camacho’s companies and family over the past decade. Apodaca has been the longest serving and most controversal figure on Central Basin’s Board. First elected in 1998, Apodaca worked on the staff of former Assemblyman and longtime Central Basin consultant Tom Calderon. Calderon, along with his younger brother and Senator Ron, are currently subjects of an intense federal corruption investigation. Apodaca has also received attention for being the focus of numerous sexual harassment complaints, one reportedly involving Caroline Medrano’s daugther, Kara Medrano. Ms. Medrano was employed at the water agency for almost three years from 2006 until 2009 as the District’s Legislative Analyst. According to former Director Montalvo, he acknowledged being aware of an incident involving Apodaca and Medrano where Director Art Chacon and former Director and Board President Ed Vasquez witnessed Apodaca “groping” Medrano in his shared District office. According to current Director and former State Assemblyman Phil Hawkins, the (sexual harassment) situation swirling around Apodaca is “a cancer that we have to cut out of our system before it kills us.” This was not the first time Apodaca’s spending habits have drawn negative attention to the agency. It was reported in 2008 that Apodaca was paid nearly $100,000 over two years for meetings, travel and communication allowances. Half of those costs came from attendance at District and Metropolitian Water Board meetings. Then other half he received for mileage, transportation, registration fees, housing, meals and a monthly communications allowance. At the time, General Manger Art Aguilar stated in response to Apodaca’s excessive costs to the District “I don’t think it’s outrageous, you need to compensate these people for the efforts they are putting in.”

“Operations like this are aimed at curbing any more rises in motorcycle deaths and sending the numbers back downward,” a spokesman said. In the City of Norwalk, there were 16 motorcycle-involved collisions in 2011, with one fatality and 15 injuries. In 2012, the number of collisions rose to 21, but the number of fatalities dropped to zero, with number of injuries dropping to 13. California collision data reveals that primary causes of motorcycle-involved crashes include speeding, unsafe turning and impairment due to alcohol and other drugs. The Norwalk Sheriff’s Department is also reminding all motorists to always be alert and watch out for motorcycles, especially when turning and changing lanes. As the economy turns upward, there will likely be more miles driven by all vehicles, plus more novice motorcycle riders who are untrained and unable to handle the power of today’s motorcycles. The message to all drivers and motorcyclists is: share in the responsibility and do your part by safely “sharing the road.” Riders can get training through the California Motorcyclist Safety Program. Information and training locations are available at www.CA-msp.org or 1-877 RIDE 411 or 1-877-743-3411. Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Haley, who is African American, charged in the complaint that Mayor Alatorre, a Latino, “violated the City of Lynwood’s rules regarding hostile work environment, discrimination and retaliation.” This week Haley abruptly announced that he would no longer be employed by the City of Lynwood. City Attorney Fred Galante, in an interview with HMG-CN, confirmed that Haley was “no longer the city manager as of August 1.” “Mr. Haley has retired from the City of Lynwood,” said Galante. “We won’t go into the specifics on why Mr. Haley retired,” he said. Haley was reportedly making $220,000 per year in salary and had been the top administrator of Lynwood since 2007. Haley said, “he has numerous offers in the private sector, I will go on vacation for two weeks, come back and make my decision.” The relationship between Haley and Alatorre was strained and sources inside Lynwood City Hall say the two “actually hated each other.” “They couldn’t stand each other, and butted heads all the time,” one Lynwood official said in an interview. “It was about power and control, and Alatorre thinks he is running the entire City of Lynwood because he sits in the mayor’s chair,” the

Youngest Artesia Punisher squad concludes summer with a runner-up performance The 2012-2013 travel ball season has ended for softball teams and next month will begin a brand new season for the Artesia Punishers program, among others. Listed below is a recap of the final major tournaments for four Artesia Punisher teams, the Cerritos Girls Softball Association 14-Under Infinity All-Star team and the Norwalk Girls Softball 10-Under All-Star team. The Liverpool kept the pressure on early in the second half even though a header from Kazimi following a corner kick sailed a bit too high of the crossbar. But in the 37th minute, Gonzalez got loose on the left side and took a shot from just inside the penalty box that found the right side of the net and a 3-0 lead. After the Freedom FC spoiled the shutout bid, Kazimi wrapped up the scoring when her breakaway shot was uncontested. The Liverpool took 13 shots in the game and Rivas made only two saves off of six shots. “Yesterday they took a lead on us early and we were watching for the first 10 minutes,” Farah said. “Then we picked it up. We adjusted a little bit more today. Even though we beat them 4-1 yesterday, we dominated today much more than we did yesterday.” The Liverpool will be in action this weekend in the United FC Cup, playing up again (in the Under-17 age group) and against stronger competition. On Saturday, the Liverpool will play the (Torrance) Beach FC and the (Yorba Linda) Chelsea SC G96 Blue squad. On Sunday, Cerritos meets with the Pleasanton Rage 96. School Board Honors District ‘Health Partners’ HMG Staff Report The Montebello Unified School District Board of Education this month honored the District’s partners who are providing vital health care services that maximize the mental and physical well-being of students so that they can reach their potential in the classroom, and in life. tal healthcare services for students and the entire community. In addition, Montebello Unified has been at the forefront of establishing antibullying and suicide prevention programs and has extended training on these issues to key District groups including assistant principals, counselors, school psychologists and school police officials. Montebello Unified’s nursing staff cares for between 3,500 and 4,500 students so that they are safe, healthy and ready to learn. “Our nurses exemplify what’s best about those who provide school health services,” said Montebello Unified Superintendent Susanna Contreras Smith. “Our healthcare providers are critical members of our education team because they support our District in its commitment to helping our students acquire the knowledge and skills they need to progress in their education and in life. We all know that children can reach new heights when they’re healthy.” The District’s nurses perform health assessments, vision, hearing, dental and scoliosis screenings, create emergency care plans for students with health issues, treat diabetic students and those children with severe allergies. They also monitor more than 2,000 students with health issues such as asthma, heart problems and seizures and provide daily care for those who have had recent medical procedures for various conditions. In addition, MUSD’s school nurses promote prevention and wellness and provide a bridge that connects families and students to important health services.
trict’s Ford Park Adult School Campus, is a 740-hour module course preparing students for entry-level employment as a Licensed Pharmacy Technician. Commerce residents are encouraged to participate and enroll in the program. The first class, which is still in progress, has a roster of 24 students. “We are absolutely thrilled to have a dozen students in our first class, which is training and preparing students to take on a career in pharmacology,” said Dan Garcia, Adult School Principal. “They are also getting excellent experience at an affordable cost of $750, compared to the $3,000 other programs charge. It is a winwin situation for everyone involved.” Students who are enrolled in the program gain knowledge in all aspects of pharmacy practice, while training in a simulated pharmacy setting. Upon completion of the theory modules – including federal law, medical terminology, pharmacology, routes and formulations, aseptic technique and community pharmacy practice – students participate in a 240-hour externship in an operating pharmacy. Classes begin on Sept. 4 and are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Enrollment is first come, first served. The $750 cost for the program includes textbooks, workbooks, and student identification badge and student liability insurance. The program is being offered at Ford Park Community Adult School, 7800 Scout Ave., Bell Gardens. “Our adult school program is such an important aspect of the services we provide for our community,” said Superintendent Cleve Pell. “For many of our adult students, these courses and programs represent a new beginning and we’re proud to see them succeed.” For registration inquires, call Ford Park Adult School at (562) 927-7759
its Safe Schools/Healthy Students Grant Initiative in order to increase access for students in need of treatment and to eliminate barriers to student success. Through their work and through the implementation of the Montebello Unified School District’s initiative, more than 2,000 students who were referred for services have been served since 2010-11. “It’s clear that students who live with various mental health issues need compassion coupled with effective programs that bring them into a state of well-being,” said George Muriel, Assistant Director of Pupil & Community Services and Mental Health Coordinator. “There is no doubt that our District’s commitment and our partners’ hard work to fulfill that commitment continues to greatly benefit our children and their ability to succeed.” All of MUSD’s Mental Health Providers have developed relationships with school site principals, psychologists and other support staff. In the last four years, the District has effectively used its grant resources to implement innovative counseling services, hire social workers for each of the high schools and alternative high school programs and open a schoolbased health center at Bell Gardens High School that provides free health and men-

You will be bidding on a lien, not the property itself. Placing the highest bid at trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call (714) 480-5690 or visit this Internet Web site www.tacforeclosures.com/sales, using the file number assigned to this case 26750CA. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Web site. In addition, the borrower on the loan shall be sent a written notice if the sale has been postponed for at least ten (10) business days. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled sale. The undersigned Trustee disclaims any liability for any incorrectness of the street address and other common designation, if any, shown herein.
