When she worked there she made sure no child went hungry because of forgotten lunch money, often reaching into her own wallet to make sure they had something to eat. Since retirement she has been a dedicated volunteer at the Artesia Senior Center, with Stitches from the Heart and Operation Gratitude. Center: Hawaiian Gardens' Nidia Mateos was cited for her contributions in the ďŹ eld of public service in the community. Mateos is a member of her Neighborhood Watch, a strong supporter of law enforcement, and the city’s programs for its children. She attends English as a second language classes, and is a strong believer and promoter of parent involvement with their children. Right: Representing Cerritos was ABC Adult School Principal Dr. Pao-Sing W. Guo. As principal of the ABC Adult School she has been actively involved with the California Council for Adult Education. Sal Flores, representing the Irving Moskowitz Foundation, presented a check in the amount of $3,000 to Kelly Kunsek, Director of Camp Pivika at the Mar. 2 meeting of the ABC School Board. The camp provides programs and services for children and adults with disabilities. With Kunsek was camp participants age 19-22 years. Established in1926 as the Crippled Children’s Society of Southern California, Camp Pivika’s mission is to help people with disabilities realize their full potential throughout their lives. State budget cuts have led to the elimination of all state funding to the camp. Kunsek thanked the Moskowitz Foundation for its donation.

ToTo day it has grown with this year hosting 97,766 visitors comcom pared to last yearâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s 108,000. However, revenues were up about seven percent from last year. Festival President Greg Bozzo said. "I think this festival is bigger than garlic and it has to do with the people and their know how," he said in a short celebratory speech to festival organizers after the last visitor left the park Sunday night.
