HEWS MEDIA ARTICLE RESULTS IN A L.A. SHERIFF’S INVESTIGATION OF COMMERCE MAYOR JOHN SORIA BY BRIAN HEWS For the second time in less than a week, a Hews Media Group-Los Cerritos Community Newspaper article has resulted in an internal investigation of a state and county employee. The first instance involved Kevin Hunt, former GM of Central Basin Water based in Commerce, Ca., who was fired last week after a series of investigative articles by HMG-LCCN. Now an article published earlier this month has resulted in a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Internal Affairs investigation of Commerce Mayor John Soria. Soria is employed as a Law

Enforcement Technician for the LA County Sheriff’s Department. The investigation was confirmed by Sergeant Jeremy Carr of the Sheriff’s Internal Affairs Bureau. Soria, who garnered less that 1,000 votes to win election, is the Mayor of Commerce, a tiny town in Southeast Los Angeles county that has the biggest card room in the world, the Commerce Casino, along with one of the biggest high-end outlet malls in the country, the Citadel. Soria, along with Councilmembers Ivan Altamirano and Oralia Rebollo, have pushed hard to land cannabis licenses

in Commerce, handing out $400,000 in sole-source no-bid contracts to two woman who had absolutely no experience in screening cannabis licenses. One woman was a former grant writer for the city of Compton, the other was a multilevel marketing jewelry sales representative. The documents supporting the awarding of the bogus contracts was undisputed; yet L.A. County District Attorney Jackie Lacy has refused to investigate the no bid contracts and the woman behind them. There are rumors that the FBI is investigating the city’s cannabis licenses awards.

Sensing no retribution from Jackie Lacey and her office, Soria came up with another plan, a self-aggrandizing strategy that involves working with questionable cannabis businesses and former Bell Gardens City Councilman and convicted felon Mario Beltran. Beltran has been seen all over East Los Angeles acting as the middle-man between cannabis companies and cities. In the article, HMG-LCCN obtained several pictures posted on social media that showed Soria endorsing binge drinking and public drunkenness, all while

NEW YEAR BRINGS NEW LAWS TO STATE

CERRITOS BANS SALE OF E-CIGS THROUGHOUT THE CITY

BY BRIAN HEWS

BY ANA IBARRA AND BRIAN HEWS Cerritos is taking the lead where the California Legislature did not, recently completely banning e-cigs sales throughout Cerritos. California Gov. Gavin Newsom in September said that he did not have the authority to enact a ban, as others states have, and instead announced funding for a new public awareness campaign and increased enforcement of the sale of e-cigarettes. Unlike California, other states are piling on. Michigan took the first statewide shot at vaping in September when it announced a ban on the sale of flavored e-cigarette products. It was soon joined by New York, and Rhode Island. Massachusetts went further, announcing Tuesday that it would prohibit the sale of all vaping flavors and devices for four months. There are many cities that

As the new year begins in California both new and old laws will go into effect addressing issues like housing, gun ownership, healthcare, and more. New laws, as well as laws signed in previous years, such as the minimum wage law, will have an effect on Californians at the start of 2020. Here's a look at new state laws. One of the most interesting laws gives cities the ability to start their own bank. The bill’s author, David Chiu, argued that because public

BY TAMMYE MCDUFF The Cerritos Optimist Club and Soroptimist International of Artesia-Cerritos members completed their annual “Families In Need Project” delivery to 32 local families. The number of families and children increases every year, and the Optimist Club works very hard to provide for all of them. Multiple toys were provided to each of the 82 children and over 14,565 pounds of food and sundries were delivered to the families. Co-Chairs Ray and Kathy Lovell led the successful effort with the help of over 110 Optimist Members, Soroptimist Club Members, their friends and family, Junior Optimist students, and other volunteers. individuals in the community have participated in our Christmas project,” commented Optimist President Dr. David DeKriek, “whether it is by purchasing gifts for the children and families, donating cash to purchase the food, donating hats and mittens at the local schools, or helping distribute the items to the families, there is always a way for someone to take part and give back within the community.” Donors included Optimist members, the City of Cerritos, Razor, Red Hat Society, Ralphs, Gahr High School,

LAWSUIT SAYS PUBLISHERS CLEARING HOUSE SCAM TOOK $95K FROM LAKEWOOD MAN BY MARIAN JOHNS A California man who alleges he paid $95,000 in a scam using the Publishers Clearing House's (PCH) name alleges he was targeted because his personal information was obtained from PCH. Lonnie Johnson filed a complaint in the Los Angeles County Superior Court against PCH LLC, PCH Inc., PCH and Does 1-100 alleging negligence. Johnson claims in his suit that in 2017 he was the victim of a scam that included being told he had won the Publishers Clearing House grand prize of $5 million. He alleges he was told the money would be deposited into a Bank of America account in his name but that he was required to pay

$95,000 in taxes on the winnings in advance. Johnson alleges he paid the $95,000 and later learned in 2018 it was a scam. Johnson claims he was targeted as a result of PCH storing and or disseminating his personal information. He also claims PCH failed to warn entrants that they would never be required to pay money to the Internal Revenue Service or anyone else in advance to receive the prize. Johnson seeks economic and non-economic damages, a trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by A. Jay Norton of The Law Offices of A. Jay Norton in Lakewood, California. The case was removed by the defendants to the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California on Dec. 19.

Continued from page 1 blatantly supporting cannabis companies that obtained licenses in the city via the system set up by the grant writer and the multi-level market rep. The pictures showed Soria sponsoring a trip on November 22 to Las Vegas, using a City-leased bus loaded with officials, local Teamster union representatives, and Carlos Maravilla, a candidate running for City Council in Commerce. The word loaded was key to the trip. Soria branded the trip “Canna Bus to Las Vegas, ”designing a professional logo that included the city of Commerce’s name prominently displayed inside the famous Las Vegas sign logo, along with an Ace card that had a pot leaf. Seen in one of several pictures posted on the Commerce Now Facebook Page was Soria on the City-leased bus, with what looked like a large beer in hand, and several officials, including candidate Maravilla, smiling broadly wearing his Teamsters t-shirt. It is illegal to drink beer on a Cityleased bus. In another picture, Soria was seen with Maravilla and Mario Beltran in front of the leased bus. Beltran was accused by prosecutors of embezzling campaign funds from Ron Calderon to pay for his legal defense in a 2006 criminal case. Beltran pleaded guilty to four counts. Seven counts of grand theft, one count of perjury and one count of failing to deposit cash was dismissed at sentencing as part of Beltran’s negotiated plea agreement. In addition, Beltran was accused of filing a false police report when he solicited a prostitute at a seedy hotel in 2013. The prostitute reportedly beat Beltran up and stole his Bell Gardens police badge. Yet there was Soria and Maravilla, in front of the Canna Bus to Las Vegas logo, both smiling with Beltran. “Seems like that Canna Bus to Vegas and hanging out with Mario Beltran goes against everything the Sheriff stands for,” said one Commerce resident who did not want to be identified, “not to mention the stain he placed on the City with that stupid logo.” “And what’s with Carlos Maravila, the Commerce Council candidate who also hangs around felons, I wonder what his Teamster bosses would think of that?” Several texts into Soria went unreturned

Their reason for being homeless is irrelevant, their need for compassion isn’t.” Share Hope USA has arranged to serve at the Good Neighbor Center every month in 2020. Continued from page 1 banks do not have to be concerned with turning a profit, the city bank can invest in things commercial banks do not want to provide because there are no profits to be made, this would include affordable housing and infrastructure. The bill made the approval process rigorous, but not unlike a private person starting a business. Cities would need a business plan and state-approved insurance, but they better hurry; the law only allows for 10 public banks in the state, with no more than two licenses issued each year. Other bills: WILDFIRES Public safety shutoffs: SB 167 This bill would require each electrical corporation to include protocols related to mitigating the public safety impacts of people with disabilities who rely on power. The bill would authorize electrical corporations to deploy backup electrical resources or provide financial assistance to those customers receiving medical baseline allowances. California becomes the first state to require new homes to install solar panels, adding at least $9,500 to the cost of a new home, it is an effort to curb greenhouse gasses. AT WORK Minimum wage: Under SB 3 , mini-

mum wage workers will see another increase in their paycheck: from $11 to $12 an hour for companies with 25 or fewer employees and $13 an hour for larger companies. Gig economy workers: One of the most contentious bills to come down the pike, AB 5 requires independent or contract workers to be considered employees and not independent workers if the employer controls the work, if the work is part of the company's core business, or if the employer directs the worker in their job. Hair at work: SB 188- California becomes the first state to ban workplace and school discrimination based on a person's natural hairstyle or texture, including braids, twists, and locks. HOUSING Rent control: Under AB 1482 , California communities without rent control will now be covered by statewide rent control protections. Rent increases will be limited to 5 percent per year plus inflation and never more than 10 percent total. HEALTH Healthcare for immigrants: under SB 104, California will be the first state to offer Medicaid coverage for low-income adults ages 19 to 25 years, regardless of immigration status. Look for a tweet from Trump on this bill. Finally, California can tax people who refuse to get into the pool and buy health insurance. A family of four would pay at least $2,000 with the projected $300 million to $400 million in tax proceeds to go to giving middle-income people discounts on their monthly health insurance premiums. FIREARMS Price to purchase: under AB 1669, a firearm tax of $31.19 will be tacked on to gun sales in California , to be used for firearms-related regulatory and enforcement activities. Gun buying: File this under “why wasn’t this a law before,” under AB 164, anyone prohibited from buying a firearm in another state will not be allowed to purchase a firearm in California. Firearm storage: Under SB 172 , anyone who owns a firearm that is taken out of the home by a child or "prohibited person" can be charged with a crime and be banned from owning a gun for 10 years. ANIMALS Road Kill Bill: State Senator Bob Archuleta’s bill makes California the latest state to allow for the eventual use of road-killed deer, elk, pronghorn antelope and wild pigs. But wildlife wardens warn it’s still illegal to collect roadkill because a state permitting and tracking program is not yet in place and they have until 2022.

DOWNEY ROSE PARADE FLOAT WINS FOUNDERS AWARD BY TAMMYE MCDUFF In 1890, Valley Hunt Club members, led by Charles Frederick Holder, sponsored the first Tournament of Roses. The abundance of flowers, even in the midst of winter, prompted the club to add a parade before the competition, where entrants would decorate carriages with hundreds of colorful blooms. This year marks the 131st Rose Parade and the 67th year of participation for the Downey Rose Float Association [DRFA]. The rowdy and loveable crew from the DRFA transported parade onlookers to the perfect spot in Japan with ‘Wings of Hope’, winning the Founders Trophy Award for most outstanding float. Wings of Hope was built and decorated by volunteers, residents and members of the organization. Origami cranes took flight decorated with sweet white rice and cranberry seed over a secret Japanese garden. Origami cranes are a symbol of hope and healing and it is believed that if you folded one thousand paper cranes, your wish will come true. The larger than life cherry blossom trees were created with Mallorca orchids with Miss Downey Viany Campa, riding the float with her royal court all dressed in kimonos. This year Eileen Garrido received the honor of representing the City of Downey. Garrido was born with a serious heart condition known as Tetralogy of Fallot. This complex heart condition causes the heart to provide insufficient oxygen to the body which literally can cause a patient to

suffocate. At the age of five weeks Garrido underwent her first heart surgery; just a little over a year old Garrido underwent her second heart surgery to repair her heart and June 2014, Garrido had her third surgery to repair her pulmonary artery and valve. She is truly a miracle child. Her personal story of hope, faith, and inspiration ties into this year’s tournament theme of “The Power of Hope”. Garrido was asked to write and perform an original song that embodied the theme of the Downey float, “On the Wings of Hope” which is based on the ancient Japanese legend of Origami Cranes. With this honor in hand, Garrido was referred to New York composer Richard Pearson Thomas by her CSUF music Professors. After sharing her story, Thomas wrote “The Song of The Cranes”. The song and orchestration were then sent to LA based music director Cesar Benitez who worked with Garrido to record the song using live musicians. This three month collaboration between NY and LA musicians resulted in the theme song for the 2020 Downey Rose Float which was played along the parade route for spectators to hear. The city of Downey remains one of six floats that are designed, built, and decorated solely by volunteers. The float will be on display at the Embassy Suites Hilton beginning January 2nd.

The new portal will allow customers to make a one-time payment or set up automatic payments. Payments can be made from an eCheck, debit card or credit cards, including American Express, MasterCard and Visa. Customers will also be able to view their 12-month payment history. Bill statements will become available as part of the payment history starting with the first bill paid through the new system. Customers can also request paperless billing with the new system. When this option is selected, the portal will email a PDF of the bill summary to the customer. Customers who have selected paperless billing can choose to receive their bill statements via an email message or text message. The system also allows customers to request email reminders of upcoming payment due dates.

The ban was modeled after the one San Francisco adopted in June. statewide ban on vaping as health concerns grow. The Council’s move is in response to health advisories recently issued by the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the State of California regarding deadly lung illnesses related to vaping. The City’s current law prohibited standalone establishments whose primary use is to sell or distribute electronic cigarettes or associated paraphernalia. Previous regulations did not extend to retailers – such as grocery stores, gas stations, markets and liquor stores – which sell e-cigarettes and related paraphernalia as an ancillary use. The new amendment now bans the sale of electronic cigarettes city-wide, both as a primary and ancillary use.

VALLEY CHRISTIAN GIRLS BASKETBALL ENDS TOURNAMENT ON HIGH NOTE, JOHN GLENN FALLS TO EDISON BY LOREN KOPFF @LORENKOPFF ON TWITTER HUNTINGTON BEACH-A pair of area teams called it a wrap in the annual Larry Doyle/Dan Wiley 2019 O.C. Tournament of Champions with one claiming a win despite going scoreless in the fourth quarter while the other falling for the third time in four games. Valley Christian High was able to hold on against host co-host Marina High last Saturday afternoon for a 37-27 victory, its second lowest point total this season in a victory. “I kind of knew going into this tournament that this would be a good tournament,” said V.C. first-year head coach Gene Bras. “My girls always play really hard and are really scrappy and stuff. I think those games against Edison and against Cypress could have gone

either way. I think it’s a good test of where we’re at for league too, because that’s kind of what our league teams are going to be like.” The Lady Defenders improved to 6-10 as they held an opponent to under 30 points for the fourth time this season. Junior Jordan Ebalo, who had a great tournament, scored nine of her team’s 10 points in the first quarter and ended the contest with 18 points. Through three quarters, V.C. had built a 37-19 lead, but still got the win despite missing on all 10 shots taken. Senior McKenna Bushong added eight points against the Vikings. V.C. began the tournament by falling to co-host Edison High 60-50 on Dec. 23, then defeated Segerstrom High 58-45 last Thursday behind 29 points and 10 rebounds from Ebalo. The Lady Defenders scored the first nine points of the game and never looked back. With the Lady Defenders leading 38-33 late in the third quarter, they went on a 13-0 run to seal the victory. Junior Faith Boss scored nine points and had three assists while Bushong added eight points and six rebounds. The next day, V.C. fell to Cypress High 50-47 with Bushong scoring 19 points and Ebalo another dozen points. Ebalo was also named to the all-tournament team.

“I think we’re a pretty balanced team,” Bras said. “We’re a lot of the same type of players; not too many tall players, but they’re scrappy and pretty skilled. So, we’re going to have to kind of fight the whole year. I thought we got some good contributions from a couple of our sophomores in this tournament.” V.C., which has finished above .500 twice in the past eight seasons and has not reached 10 victories in each of the past two seasons, will visit Sacred Heart of Los Angeles High on Jan. 4 before jumping into Olympic League action three days later against Maranatha High.

The Lady Defenders have eight league games and three non-league contests remaining on the docket for the regular season. “There’s a few things to clean up, but I think we competed well,” Bras said. “I think we’re doing some things better than we did early in the year. But I guess there’s still room to improve. I guess that’s the way you want it. I’m happy we have that one game to kind of get our feet wet before we go into league. Those first couple of games will be huge ones, Maranatha and Heritage [Christian]. Again, our league is pretty

VALLEY CHRISTIAN BOYS BASKETBALL TAKES ANOTHER TOURNAMENT, KEEPS BANNER SEASON GOING BY LOREN KOPFF @LORENKOPFF ON TWITTER SAN PEDRO-The Valley Christian High boys basketball team has played in three tournaments this season and has advanced to the championship game in all three. The Defenders had yet another stellar shooting night, this time against Wiseburn-Da Vinci High last Saturday night in a semifinal game in the 12th Annual San Pedro High School Basketball Invitational “Pirate Shoot Out” Tournament, knocking off the Wolves 76-59. Following a 73-66 win against Lawndale High this past Monday night in the championship game, V.C. improved its record to 16-1. The lone blemish for the Defenders, the top-ranked team in the CIF-Southern Section’s Division 3A, came in the finals of the St. Margaret’s Tournament on Dec. 14 against Newport Harbor High, a 64-58 defeat.

News When You Want It

“It’s exciting,” said V.C. first-year head coach Josh Zumkehr of the first 16 games. “We looked at this as a great opportunity for us to win. I think no one expected us to win our tournament. There were other teams that were more favored. I thought us and Newport Harbor were pretty evenly matched. So, we play Lawndale [in the championship game], and they’re going to be a really tough matchup for us; they have a lot of good guards. But yeah, we’re excited. Anytime you get into a tournament, you always want to play for the championship, and we have another opportunity.” V.C. was down last Saturday night 6-2 early on the strength of two three-pointers from Blake Cabrera. But the Defenders scored the next seven points and took the lead for good with 3:07 remaining in the first quarter on a basket from senior Malvin Payero. He would score two more straight baskets off an offensive rebound and a steal and from that point on, V.C. never looked back. The Defenders were up 21-17 after the first quarter, but had no answer for Cabrera, who hit four shots from beyond the arc and would finish the game with 21 points on seven three-pointers. Meanwhile, V.C. spent the first five minutes-plus of the second quarter on an 11-4 run and eventually led at the break, 40-28. V.C. shot 15 of 27 in the first half as it continued to keep its theme of hot shooting in the tournament. Against Arleta High on Dec. 26, a 103-76 victory, V.C. shot 64 percent from the field and 79 percent from the free throw line. The next night, in an 8455 win over Banning High, the Defenders were 46 percent from the field. “It’s “shooting” because we’re getting a lot of lay-ups, especially in transition,” Zumkehr said. “That’s this team’s strength; is our ability to get out and go.

SAN PEDRO PIRATE SHOOT OUT TOURNAMENT Sometimes it can hurt us when we need to slow the game down when we have a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter because we only know how to play one way.” Any chance the Wolves had of getting back in the game were shot down in the first 87 seconds of the second half when junior Denzel Williams scored twice and sophomore Nathan Medina once and just like that, V.C. had an 18-point lead. The Defenders would maintain a double digit lead the rest of the way as they have now scored at least 75 points eight times. Payero, who was named the tournament’s most valuable player, led everyone with 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds while Williams had 20 points. Medina pitched in with 14 points and nine rebounds while junior Luca Caldarella added another 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Against Arleta, Payero had a careerhigh 35 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists while Medina and Williams followed with 23 and 18 points respectively. Medina would post a career-high 37 points against Banning and pulled down 11 points while Williams had 14 points and nine boards. Medina and Williams were named to the all-tournament team. V.C. will travel to Whittier High on Jan. 4 before hosting Maranatha High on Jan. 7 in the Olympic League opener. “The reality is that it’s nice to be 15-1, but it doesn’t give us any guarantee to be in the playoffs,” Zumkehr said. “The way the CIF does the playoffs now, you have to get an automatic bid more than likely in our division. So, this is great; 15-1 looks nice, but we need to finish third place our better in league and that’s never going to be an easy task.”

JANUARY 3, 2020

The new year, and new decade, marks the beginning of play in the 605 League, Olympic League, San Gabriel Valley League and Suburban League, as well as others in the CIF-Southern Section. And before you know it, the divisional playoffs will begin in a little over a month from now. Here’s a look of where the eight area schools’ basketball and soccer teams stand right now and their upcoming schedule. ARTESIA The boys basketball team ended 2019 at 8-8 as it will face Bishop Amat High and Cathedral City High today and Saturday respectively in the Rancho Mirage Showcase. The Pioneers are riding a three-game winning streak and have been above .500 twice this season. They will also visit Cerritos High on Tuesday in the 605 League opener. The girls basketball team has won all 12 games thus far as it hosts Rise Kohyang High on Saturday before its league opener. The Lady Pioneers, who have not scored more than 63 points in any game nor allowed more than 42 points in any game, are also the topranked team in Division 5AA. The boys soccer team sports a 5-4-1 mark as it visits Cypress High today while the girls are winless in 10 games and have scored three goals. Both teams will face Cerritos on Tuesday with the boys at home. CERRITOS The boys basketball team went 2-2 in the Mt. Carmel Tournament, falling to Olympian High 61-57 this past Monday. Still, the Dons will take an 11-5 mark into their league opener against Artesia High. Cerritos has won five of its last seven and is ranked ninth in Division 3AA. The girls basketball team, which has been above .500 twice, fell to 7-8 following a 69-53 loss to Vista Murrieta this past Monday in the final game of the Best of the West Tournament. The Lady Dons will travel to Bishop Amat today before facing Artesia. The boys soccer team went 0-2-1 in the recent Marina Holiday Tournament and is 2-8-1 while the girls team, absent from action since Dec. 21, is 2-4-3 as both teams face Artesia on Tuesday with the boys on the road. GAHR A 55-34 win over Temescal Canyon High in the final game of the Rancho Mirage Tournament enabled the boys basketball team, winners of three straight games, to improve to 11-6. The Gladiators, ranked 13th in Division 3AA, will face Rolling Hills Prep on Saturday in the Westchester Classic before hosting Downey High on Wednesday in the San Gabriel Valley League opener. The girls basketball team salvaged the final game of the Whittier Tournament by defeating the host school 46-38 this past Monday, but is still 5-12. The Lady Matadores will face South Hills High at Northview High today before going to La Serna High on Saturday. A five-game winning streak was snapped when the boys soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to California High last Saturday in the Marina Holiday Tournament. Still, La Mirada, ranked second in Division 4, is 9-2-2 as it visits Bellflower High on Tuesday and hosts Mayfair High on Thursday. The girls soccer team went 2-1-1 in the North Orange County Championships after blanking Redlands East Valley High 2-0 last Saturday to improve to 7-4-3. The Lady Matadors, ranked eighth in Division 2, visits Troy High today before facing Bellflower on Tuesday at Glenn and travelling to Mayfair on Thursday. NORWALK A six-game winning streak, highlighted by an Anaheim Tournament championship is what the boys basketball team has after knocking off Garden Grove High 55-38 this past Monday. The Lancers improved to 10-7 and will visit Kennedy High today. The girls basketball team dropped a 43-40 overtime decision to Arroyo High last Saturday in its final game of the Buena Park Tournament and evened its mark to 8-8. The Lady Lancers visit Northview on Saturday and Price High on Tuesday.

After both soccer teams face Gahr, they will begin Suburban League action on Thursday against Firebaugh High with the boys on the road. The boys are 8-2-1 and ranked 10th in Division 3 and will also visit La Serna High on Saturday while the girls are sporting a 5-4-1 record. VALLEY CHRISTIAN The boys basketball team is enjoying its best season in a while, winning 16 of its first 17 games and will visit Whittier on Saturday before hosting Maranatha High on Tuesday in the Olympic League opener, following the girls (6-10). The Defenders are tied with Shadow Hills High for the top spot in Division 3A. Both soccer teams, who have not played since the middle of December, are off to solid starts with the boys standing at 6-2-2 while the girls are 5-2-2. They will face Maranatha on Tuesday with the girls, ranked fifth in Division 5,

In the end, the Chargers pulled out a 41-33 victory. “I told them at halftime the issue that we’re having right now is we’re not playing to win; we’re playing not to lose,” said Glenn head coach Ruben Guerrero. “That means that they’re playing a little more tentative than they should. I think that’s the difference that it comes down to.” Glenn led 7-6 after the first quarter but quickly gave up baskets to Taylor Fullbright and Gwen Ontiveros within the first minute of the second quarter. After that, both teams traded points and by halftime, the Lady Eagles were down 22-17. Glenn was trailing 29-22 with 3:41 remaining in the third quarter before it scored five straight points, its longest scoring streak of the game. But the team had a poor fourth quarter, taking 10 shots and connecting on a pair of them. Senior Perla Santana led the Lady Eagles with 15 points, including all six in the fourth quarter, and had four rebounds and three assists while junior Cynthia Almanzar added seven rebounds and three assists. “She’s been doing a lot better,” Guerrero said of Santana. “Last year she was the turnover queen for us. This year, she’s a little bit more poised, a

The Wildcats will visit Bolsa Grande High today before facing arch-rival Oxford Academy on Tuesday at home. The girls have not played since Dec. 21 are 4-10 as they are home to Calvary Chapel Downey High today in preparation of their league opener against the Patriots. Before facing Oxford Academy on Tuesday with the girls (7-2-0) at home, both soccer teams will face Mark Keppel High today with the boys (4-3-0) at home.

It’s her last year, so she wants to have a good year no matter what.” Glenn began the tournament on Dec. 23 falling to Aliso Niguel High 64-26 before picking up a narrow 29-26 win against Marina on Dec. 26. The next day, the Lady Eagles fell to Long Beach Wilson High 71-37. This is the second straight tournament Glenn went 1-3, but Guerrero still thought this was a good tournament for his team. “I think so because it exposes all the stuff that we do wrong; stuff that we need to clean up, stuff that we needed to do a lot better,” Guerrero said. “The fact that we don’t play with confidence from time to time hurts us.” At 10-7, Glenn has already bettered its record from last season and is looking to end a season with a winning mark for the first time since the 2010-2011 campaign when that team went 19-9. The Lady Eagles will have only its 605 League games remaining on the regular season schedule, beginning with a Jan. 7 contest at Pioneer High. “I thought we were going to go 2-2, at least in this tournament,” Guerrero said. “But still, 10-7 is not bad, We’re one win better than last year’s group. So, that’s always a positive. It just comes down to the girls believing in what we’re doing more.”

NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder's office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call (800) 2802832 or visit this Internet Web site www.auction.com, using the file number assigned to this case 19-58173.
