MEXICO STUDY ABROAD

Partner: Ka To Cheung Location: San Miguel de Allende, GTO, MEX. Our site, an existing parking lot located near the central plaza of San Miguel De Allende on Mesones St., is surrounded by commercial and public programming catering to tourists due to its proximity to the city center. As a result the local community is being pushed farther away from the city center. Our project seeks to create a communal space for the locals to learn, to create, and to socialize, regaining their place in the city center.

Cosas Raras 2019-2020 Cal Poly 5th YEAR THESIS

Brianna De Leon 956.212.8845 briannadleon1523@gmail.com

Location: Mexico City, Mexico Using Mexico City as a case study, this thesis therefore seeks to use the infrastructural system of the freeway to reform surrounding communities and rewrite the urban fabric by bringing people together in areas affected by the societal implications and rigidity of freeway infrastructure as a result of modernization, such as areas with homogenous program due to distinctive zoning. The type of architecture would be one that travels through the infrastructural freeways of Mexico City creating a series of layered public spaces for commuters and communities to exploit the mobility afforded by the freeway in order to produce a continually relocatable series of urban experiences.

ASPERITAS S21 TTU Location: Rotterdam, Netherlands The mission of ASPERITAS is to provide an architectural proposal to achieving a sustainable food future, in line with the energy, environmental and economic goals of the Netherlands. The earth’s temperature could rise 2 degrees by 2050 negatively impacting crop yields. With the increase of water usage and chance of droughts, failure to address agricultural alternatives could come at a high price. Meeting the needs to feed an expanding population would require doubling the amount of food output by 2050 and beyond. Clearing of natural landscapes and reduction of arable lands is not desirable, therefore inhabiting the troposphere would be the next logical step in the search for agricultural space.
