music director note
from next to normal
The scope of what this incredible team undertook in this beast of a production cannot be understated. There were technical hurdles — the complexity of putting on such an intricate and fast paced musical in such a small theater — as well as unavoidable mishaps — our scores arriving just weeks before tech week and me getting covid during tech week. And then there’s the music — an exciting amalgamation of rock, punk, jazz and folk that is as dizzying and unpredictable as Diana’s story itself.
This production will forever live on as my favorite for its incredible people: They are kind, they are unabashedly loving, they are genuine and caring, they are family. They are insanely talented — a true Avengers squad of Stanford’s best theatre makers, musicians, actors and singers.

A special thanks to: Chloe, whose fire and soul has been my inspiration since my first theater productions at Stanford,
Jin-Hee, whose talent is unfathomable and heart immeasurable, Brandon and Holly, who are brilliant, incredibly cool, and so, so patient…
Daniel, who should get an award just for putting up with me, Lisa, the hardest working and best AMD I could’ve asked for, My pit, some of the best musicians I know.
And the many, many more whom I love, whom I’m so lucky consider home.
