The aviation industry is rapidly evolving with change being the only constant. According to IATA,
Africa has been the continent that is most affected by an acute shortage of aviation personnel. Due to the increasing in demand for pilots, alot of emphasis is now laid on improving the performance of current facilities through wholesome training which require a new set of equipments and spaces.

These needs have not been entirely met by the current facilities in Kenya as mentioned above. Modern training institutions now need to have the spaces that will ensure the wholesome training of the aviator.

The maintainance unit has been fitted with soft mount rubber material on both the floor and wall to curb the issue of vibrations. The panels are used to absorb vibrations and sound from the hangar floor and laboratories. Epoxy Flooring. It’s no secret that an aircraft hangar is susceptible to a number of corrosive substances that can be potentially harmful to the flooring from aircraft fuel and hydraulic fluid to chime, grease and oil. There are a number of reasons why Epoxy Flooring is relevant. Reasons are: Resistant to wear and tear, Fights corrosive substances, Resistant to scratching and scouring, Non Porous to help fighting staining and can be made slip resistant.

“instructors cottages” THE COTTAGES ARE DESIGNED TO RESPOND TO THE NATURAL TERRAIN IN THE FOLLOWING WAYS: +The cottages are built on pile/column footing which in turn ensures little to no disturbance to the natural terrain. +The steep slope provides space for vegetation growth. +The cottages are designed to take advantage of the views towards kaputiei plain and beyond to Ngong Hills.

Use of low water assumptive and drought tolerant shade trees like the Joshua tree and Acacia Tree. Sagura Cactus and Aloe Vera are also used.

Keeps the harsh direct sun away and facilitates passive cooling of the building while maintaining free flow of air through cross-ventilation.
3) narrow plan
The blocks are rectangular and narrow in plan this is the most optimal shape as recommended by Victor Olgay. This allows for ease in cross ventilation.
4) thermal mass
Dry stone walling technique used in the design is porous to allow air movement and reduce solar gain keeping the interiors cool.
5) orientation

The blocks have their long axis along the east-west. The facade with openings faces the less hot north and south ,they are still sunshaded to accommodate of the solar movement.
6) OPEN COURTYARD
Integrating craft work spaces with vegetation to help reduce high desert temperature by creating a cool natural microclimate.

The Design’s key objective was to maximize on the green open spaces where people would interact with nature through creating parks, courtyards and roof gardens. The Park is
centrally placed for ease of accessibility but more distinctively to act as a point at which the people and their daily activities meet. The Brief seeks to give life to this area through rezoning by allocating better land use activities and improved quality of urban living.
SITE LOCATION
The site is located on the periphery of the Nairobi Central Business District to the south next to the Nairobi Railway Yard. The main Access to the site is along Commercial street which connects the west side of CBD Upper Hill, Langata) via Uhuru Highway and to the East (Shauri Moyo, Eastleigh) via Landhis Raod and Jogoo Road.

The site is located in Shauri Moyo along Jogoo road South-East of Nairobi CBD. Its boundaries constitute of three major roads and the Nairobi River. The masterplan aims at incorporating the major activities in the site while providing housing solutions to the area. The goal of the project is to redefine the neighborhood and create a masterpiece that focuses on the user experience.
The design has taken a contemporary design approach with simple geometrical form
free from clutter and clever use of building materials used to tie the project together and still create a sense of place and origin. The protrusions creates a shadow effect naturally dressing the facade.
