Women of the Moose – W.O.T.M.

Senior Regent’s Message

Hello Ladies!

There is only onemonth left in this current fiscalyear; and I just cannot believe how time flies!! Currently, our Chapter is leading the list within our District with an increase of 29 members this year. Congratulations to all who have involved themselves in the efforts throughout the past year to promote our success. Greatly appreciated!! Membership increase is just one aspect of determining how we are rated in a successful year. Community service, donations and other volunteerism efforts are other aspects

Thank you to all our 2022-2023 Chairladies for all your consistent efforts over the past year. And Thank You for your hard work and dedication to Stockdale Chapter 1203:

• Nancy Stanley, Mooseheart/Moosehaven chair, who has provided delicious desserts for sale, activities for fundraising and continued assistance with Bingo Concession.

• Carol Jett, Membership chair, who overlooked all her nervousness and continued to remain involved.

• Leta Smith, Higher Degree chair, who has been dedicated in her fundraising and volunteerism

• Ashley Stanley, Fraternal Activities chair, who brought in new ideas and perspectives to the family events held at the Lodge.

• Also, thank you to all our Chapter members who have stepped up and joined in the mission (and helped us to have fun while doing so).

We are currently engaged in nomination interviews and looking for WOTM members to serve as leaders within our Chapter. This can be in the interest of board membership, chairladies or volunteers for the upcoming fiscal year beginning May 1st, 2023. Please discuss any curiosity with any current member of our Chapter and direct questions to the current Board. Thank you in advance for your interest; we look forward to speaking with you.

As we begin to wrap up this current year, please take time to bring a friend that may have not been around for a while to show off what all has improved and upgraded. Let us show off our Chapter and Lodge!!!

The next meeting will be held on March 13, 2023 at the usual time of 5:30 pm. The social fellowship will be directly after all business has been conducted.

Fraternally Yours, Robyn

McClain Tennison, Senior Regent

Moose Of The Month

The Moose of the Month is awarded by the President to show our appreciation and thanks for helping around the Lodge. We have members of our Stockdale Moose Lodge that go the extra mile for their fellow Moose Members and volunteer in our Lodge. For this we acknowledge their efforts as Moose of the Month.

Volunteers are very important members in our Lodge and we are blessed with some very good ones. Speaking of volunteers, I wish to congratulate:

Greg Carlon

as our March Moose of the Month in recognition for the hard work and volunteering. Greg volunteers by cooking Friday Night dinners, Bingo, and many other events. He participates in Moose events and loves being a Moose member. When you see him, please thank him for his support of our wonderful Lodge. Thank you for all you do!

For those new members that may have noticed, there is a designated parking spot outside of the Lodge for the Moose of the Month. PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN THIS SPOT. You too can be Moose of the Month someday.

The Moose

The organization's emphasis on the community serves as a macrocosm for the focus of the microcosm of family activities, community service projects, and member sports programs. The organization is nonsectarian and nonpolitical, with a diverse array of community projects.

"We're not just a lodge," The whole purpose and focus of the Moose is to give back to our community. It isn't just a place to have a drink, and you don't have be a drinker to have fun at the lodge. It's all about helping out the community."

Two of the organization's long-term projects are Mooseheart and Moosehaven. Moosehaven, located in Florida, is a 65-acre retirement community. It is selfsustaining, with apartments, a bowling alley, indoor pool, grocery store, beauty parlor, and a medical facility, among other amenities. "It gives seniors a secure place to live. They are not moved to other facilities once they are there and that stability is very important to them," said Georgie Hensley, a long-term Moose member. Eleven California members currently reside at Moosehaven, which typically has approximately 400 residents.

Like Moosehaven, Mooseheart was designed to be selfsufficient. The 1,200-acre home and school setting, which is also called "The Child City," is located 35 miles outside of Chicago to provide complete living arrangements for children orphaned by one or both parents, or when a specific situation warrants the need.

At any given time, approximately 250 children live at Mooseheart. Over 11,000 children have lived and learned at Mooseheart since its creation in 1913. Like Moosehaven, it is self-sustaining, with on-site access to a bank, school, a health center, post office and housing. Children receive an education, as well as vocational and religious instruction. "All faiths are recognized,” Mooseheart's emphasis of balancing academics with spiritual and vocational training pays off. One hundred percent of all the graduates from Mooseheart attend college and each one receives scholarships. "That's something we're very, very proud of,” The organization has had a lot of experience; one of the first vocational schools began at Mooseheart.

Mooseheart and Moosehaven are the organization's largest projects, both relying solely upon funds raised by the lodges. People who wish to live at Moosehaven need to have been a member for at least 15 years before they can be considered, and must be able to take care of themselves at the time they become a resident of the retirement community. Anyone who would like to have a child considered for Mooseheart can contact any Moose member for information, and children do not need to have parents who were Moose members.

From scholarships, Head Start, seniors and other people in crises, to Tommy Moose, the Moose are there. They play a vital part in our communities, actively seeking people who need help. Along the way they find camaraderie, partnership, and they do all of it with a sense of fun and unity. "Come and join us, become a Moose. Help support our children, the elderly, and the community. It's a place where families can go. Come and have fun."

A Devoted Fraternalist

New Membership Mobile App

Administrators, volunteers and other individuals tasked with checking Moose membership cards should treat the new electronic membership card the same as the printed card. The membership expiration date is in the same location as on the printed card. The electronic card is almost identical to the pinted card, however, if a member is marked as a Valued Veteran, the card will carry the VV design. Also, the electronic card does NOT have a magnetic strip, but rather a QR code instead, so members will still need to carry their printed card if their lodge has a mag strip reader on the entrance door that has not yet been upgraded with a QR code reader.

As members pay their dues to renew their membership, they will receive a new card with a QR code instead of the magnetic strip we now have. The Lodge will be updating our entry system in the near future to enable access by the QR code.
