M5-96 PRECISION MEASURING STICK Wood flexes. Using a simple bookcase as a

project example, our measuring stick will significantly improve your abiiity to create a perfect project. It easily beats a tape measure (a tool not known for precision) andlor a framing square (a howse building tool) br speed and accuracy.

Our bookcase is to fit perfectly into a wall old cast iron radiator once

recess where an

resided. The components include: a top and bottom, one fixed and two adjustable shelves, a back and a toe kick (for this simplistic illustration we will ignore all joints, shelf swpports, the back and the toe kick) . All length measurements for this project will be done with our MS-96'and a 6" pocket rule!

First, use the MS-96 Precision Measuring Stick

to check the house walls for parallelism. Simply cornpare the recess width at floor level to the recess width at bookshelf height by using the MS-96 (highly impracticaL with a tape measure)-the narrower measurement is

your bookcase width. (A quick, double diagonal check will determine wall to floor square-

ithout doubt, "measuring" is a leading cause of mistakes in the woodshop. These mistakes are partially due to an arcane measuring system (Was that 13Ls/u" or 15r'lo" ?), part ignorance and part inexperience, rJflhatever the source, mistakes are an expensive asset drain, the most precious is

your time, Combined with material expenses, you'll quickly agree tool that minimizes ^ny human frailties enhances productivity. By our definition, any tool that helps you eliminate mistakes and increases productivity is a great /ool. Towards that objective, we are pleased to present a professional version of one of the oldest woodworking tools known to man, one we guarantee will immediately improve project quality while saving you time and money. The top, bottom and shelf often bow, How on earth is a square going to help you determine if your project is true without a single reference surface? Sometimes the back (if accwrately square) can be used as a giant "plug" to minimize these forces but it has to float somewhat, even if made from plywood and glued. This is where the MS-96 will saue the day. So far, so

Take this "measnrement" and set your table saw fence (or radial arm sropsl the correct distance from the blade, and in combination witl.r the miter gage, cut the top and bottom of your prepped stock to length. (Did you notice the MS-96 locking knobs are located on one face? This giues you three adiacent reference swrfaces for transferring measurements without knob interference. This is uery handy.) The MS-96 and your cut stock are now identical in length. Flush align the MS-96 with one board end and adiust the opposing end for the {ixed center shelf offset by using your trusty Bridge City 6" pocl<et rule. Cut this member (it typically will neuer be the same length as the top or sldesl. Set the MS-96 for the bookcase height (sans toe kick) and cut the sides. After a1l joints, the back and other details are complete, you are ready to assemble your bookcase. be tbis'eas.tt and fool proof?

This simple illustration is an example of thousands of cases (pun intended!) where our beautiful and useful MS-96 Precision Measuring Stick will confidently allow you to productively spend your precious shop time.

Construction Our measuring stick system consists of six interchangeable extruded aluminum bars. The proprietary crosssectional profile provides unprecedented adjustment ease with absolutely rigid joints. The MS-96 "points" are uniquely designed to keep the contact faces on an exact centerline. The lack of an offset insures dead accurate measurements in one plane that quickly earns your trust. FIG 2 TRANSFER THE LENGTH To YoUR TABLE SAW FOR AN ACCURATE AND

Unlike shop made measuring sticks, there are no slots in our stick sections. Opposing slidirig dovetails "jam" to each other by locking knobs located on a single face of the assernbled tool. This design accomplishes three important objectives. The "wedged" dovetails create joints that refuse to move (measwring sticks that "slip" are u,orthless). Secoud, wedged sliding dovetails always self-align, so any combination of sections acts as one preventing "joint sag". Finally, by making the tool in sections, yoLr can use the MS-95 Precision Measuring Stick on all rneasuring tasks from 21 " up to 97" without encountering knob interference.

UNI\,4EASURED CUT.

Four brass locktng knobs are infilled with rosewood, matching our other tools, the fifth is solid brass for purposes o{ engraving. The nylon tipped locking studs prevent scoring of the sections and mate with threaded brass bushings-a nice feature for you and your heils. Finally, the nickel-plate d ttps (contact points are a scant 0.030" wide) arc easily replaceable when yor-rr tool takes an inevitable dive to the floor. l-rom tny experience as a teacher, I believe rnany of you have never used a measuring stick. I also know once you do, you will neuer go back to your old ways and are certain to regret not making yourself available to this tool sooner', ril/e believe the MS-96PrecisionMeasuring Srlcft is the best and most professional version of this tool ever produced. -\--<e'

--\ =\ The CS-6 Combination Square

-..-S?

The most popular tool in our histor:y is the CS-12 Combination Square (for those of you who still remembeq it took almost a year to fill all the orders...). This well-received tool is a rare combir-ration of functionality and beauty without any sacrifice in performance. rWe are absolutely thrilled to utilize this winr.ring cornbination again in the CS-6 Combination Square. This compelling design fills a substautial void for many pr:ojects where tool size makes the job at hand less cumbersome.

Construction The head of the CS-6 Combination Square is cast from silicon brass. This durable alloy wears better than brass and is an excellent rnaterial for shops where moisture is a constant problem. Each leg of the square head is precisely milled on CNC milling machir.res creating a tool with an accrlracy run-out of less than 0.002" over the length of a {ully extended blade. Once milled, both legs are precisely fitted with a matched wood inlay creating a look and feel that is the hallmark of an heirloom tool from Bridge City Tool \florks, Inc. After de-burring and sanding, the wood is hand polished with carnauba wax. The web of the square head is satin-finished and lacquer coated, It is a

strikingly beautiful tool and a proud addition to our family of legacy products. The 6"

1'10"

width) blade is made from stainless for excellent

steel and is satin-chromed

readability. The graduations

,'li')

(%" ,'/'0" , %r" are photo-chen.rically etched and meet or exceed all U.S. and British accuracy standards

for rules. Because the steel blade is harder than tl.re

silicon brass body, ther:e are two steel "wear plates" located at the bottorn of the groove in the body. A quarter-turn of the locking knob is all it takes to adjust the length of the blade in relationship to the head. Once locked, the blade will remain in place until you need a change. This is the beauty of combinatior.t squares and their main function, The accuracy ar.rd beauty combination of the CS-6 is sure to instill the "joy of confidence" that only a well made tool can provide.

Uses There probably isn't a single bench project where this tool will not become indispensable, if not invaluable. Of course the main advantage of a combination square is the ability to adjust the blade to the head. One of my

favolite uses is cleaning up joir.rts with a chisel. It is so nice to have a small square where you can check for accuracy ar-rd fit, where the weight or size of the tool does not overpower the intent. Often (particularly with dovetail joints) I will clamp a shop made wooden straight edge along the length of a carcase side for tl.re purpose of accurately guiding my chisel. The position of this chisel guide is

Vith the CS-6, you can extend the blade the correct offset and align the guide perfectly from left to right prior to clarnping. (Hint: Chisel guides or shooting boards work fantastic. If the length is ouer 12", you ma1, need to run a strip of double stick tape on the underside of the guide to keep the guide crucial.

from scooting.) This sirnple small scale tool functions as a depth gage, height gage, small square, miter square and can be used with a scribe or pencil as a marking gage. It is the most requested tool on our customer "hot list," and ri'e are thrilled to share it with you.

The DS-6 Double Square Dor-rble squares are handy tools simply because they do not contain a 45 degree leg.
