Q - What can folks expect to learn at your Ranch Riding Clinic during the No Bling Show at HorseShoe Park in Queen Creek on December 4th? A - We will work on the technicalities of the ins and outs of Ranch Riding through a Judge’s perspective. We will cover the insider tips and an easy and fool proof way to up your scores.

Q - Why has Ranch Riding become the “flavor of the day” in the western show pen? A - Because it’s FUN! Bottom line, people are enjoying it and having fun - a good time.

Q - What kind of horses are suitable for Ranch Riding? A- A horse that has had an education in Reining or Working Cowhorse is a good start. That way they already have the basics and all you need to do is teach them the transitions needed for Each Riding.

Q - In Ranch Riding classes what is the desirable look for attire? A - It is a modern but authentic Western look. Classic pieces like a vest, wild rag, chinks, button down shirt. It is part of the overall look that maters and authentically modern Western is a good description. Tastefully coordinated with the horse and tack. The overall look must be pleasing to the eye, and not a distraction from the horse. Part of the beauty of this class is there is general no bling, but all Western!

Q - Describe the type of saddle one should have for Ranch Riding classes. A - Any quality Western Saddle works in Ranch Riding. It is about function and fit first and foremost. The saddle must fit the horse and rider.

Q - As one, what guidance can you offer young people that wish to be world champions? A - To find a mentor or trainer that has and is successful, that they admire and has the experience and success in Ranch Riding competition. Be prepared to make the commitment, time and devotion to actualize the goal and become successful.

Debbie Cooper resides in Cave Creek, Arizona. She is an AQHA, NRHA and NRCHA Judge and has officiated at many of the major events throughout the US and Europe. Her professional achievements include having trained, shown or coached AQHA World Champions, Congress Champions and NRHA winners. In addition, she has coached five Youth World Cup teams from three different countries. Over the years Debbie has been an international clinician teaching many disciplines.
