ERIC RAVILIOUS AN ILLUSTRATED TALK BY AUTHOR JAMES RUSSELL
THE ADVENTURES OF ANDY KERSHAW
<+)E$&+8/14/<='>/?"20'./ @%-A=),B/C?"V0/
@E=,&+8/55/T-)>/?"20'./ @%-A=),B/C10
Eric Ravilious was only 39 when he died on active service as a war artist in 1942, he had already achieved amazing things. A brilliant wood engraver and designer, he is best known today for his haunting watercolours, in which lighthouses, white horses, empty rooms and downland paths become marvels.
Broacaster and former Radio 1 DJ Andy Kershaw will perform a one man show about his life and widely acclaimed autobiography.
A life in pictures
Ravilious in Pictures author James Russell has explored many of these paintings, teasing out hidden stories and characters. This talk illuminates the life and work of this playful, enigmatic artist, with an emphasis on the Downland scenes that inspired his finest work.
No Off Switch is about his life and career so far in live music, radio, television and foreign correspondence. He will include an appreciation and analysis of certain songs – and an illustrated account of a road trip he made following the lyrics of Chuck Berry’s Promised Land. The show climaxes with a summary of some popular – and unintentionally hilarious – North Korean popular songs. Kershaw who once shared an office with John Peel and presented Live Aid in 1985 will be signing copies of his book after the show.

DRAWING: THE VISUAL EXPRESSION OF THOUGHT SECOND THOUGHTS <+)E$&+8/51/<='/]/<+)E$&+8/1W/T-)
Credit: Kate Lynch
Building on the success of the first Drawing Show held at the Bridport Arts Centre in early 2012, this exhibition will continue to celebrate the quality and diversity of technique, style, medium and subject matter used by West Country artists in their drawing practice. Many artists create drawings, but not all take them to a finished state which can be appreciated as a work of art in itself. Drawings are also produced as a way of thinking, trying out ideas, putting visual thoughts onto paper and constructing images. This Exhibition puts together both finished drawings and sketchbooks, showing how artists develop their ideas from the beginning concept to final artwork.

NICK MOORE: DARKLIGHT <+)E$&+8/13/g+H/]/<+)E$&+8/55/;=# This exhibition Darklight presents an ongoing series of large multi-panelled paintings on canvas by Bristol painter Nick Moore. They are an exploration of black as energy, working against the stereotypical cast of the colour as depressive or as an endgame. Recently shown at APT Gallery, London, they continue the Dark Intervals series from 2007, and are rooted in spontaneity and improvisation. They combine the elements of chance and deliberation, what in musician John Cage talked about as ‘considered improvisation’, and are a direct encounter (or series of encounters) with the material, embodying the sensuousness and physicality of painting as work. www.nickmoore.artweb.com 6=$:($.+H-=B/<+)E$&+8/13/g+H>/:$(./3'.>/;dOO [%-A/!%77/#=/'7+8%HL/+H/+-(E,)%-/%.'$(J%,+)%(H/!%)K/@K=/_$%,)(7/D$),/ _+H&/%H/)K=/L+77=$8/:(77(!%HL/K%,/'$=J%=!" These meticulously detailed pen and ink drawings are inspired by dreams, travel, meditation, and the beautiful varying landscapes of both Somerset and Spain. Created purely from memory and imagination, each piece may take up to three months to execute, with only one piece worked on at a time. For the first time Guy will be exhibiting his original artworks, alongside prints, during this exhibition.
Having painstakingly collected perished butterflies, moths and bees she found over several months on windowsills, pavements and anywhere else, Delphine put the insects under the magnifying glass to create detailed ink drawings with splashes of colour, using the pages of old whitewashed books as her canvases.

Tony Beaver has made a series of paintings of the comedian and magician Tommy Cooper. The paintings depict Cooper isolated in a dark empty space. The comic famously died on stage in front of a live theatre and television audience in the middle of a performance. These Paintings attempt to capture the moment Tommy Cooper finds himself in a new, profound and deeply serious space. He becomes an explorer, on behalf of us all, in the Afterlife.

Make your own Haunted House to take home using a cardboard box, coloured acetates, fabrics, paints and a LED light to illuminate the interior. Have some fun with secret doors, pop ups, simple paper engineering and things on strings. Then dare your friends and family to peer inside when the lights go OUT !
Take a giant pumpkin, the season of Autumn and an Australian Outback town called ORANGE and we are all set for a journey exploring the colour ORANGE. ORANGE is the color of adventure. The color ORANGE is optimistic, sociable and extroverted so it only makes sense this Halloween to paint the town red (and yellow) and ORANGE to have some fun. In this fun workshop we shall prove just how colourful one colour can be!
Create a magical visual symphony to ‘Carnival of the Animals' and other musical tunes, figurative and abstract.
