to the 3rd bi-annual Budleigh Food & Drink Festival! We cannot believe it has already been two years since the last festival. Time has flown by, yet so much has happened! Among many changes, we have been successful enough to become an independent organisation with a very committed and enthusiastic core team at the helm. In 2016 we fundraised and hosted some large events in the town including the popular Beer Bangers and Bands in April, which really blew the roof off the Public Hall! It was such a success with our guests that we are hosting ‘The Afters Party’ on the festival Saturday evening, which we hope will follow in its footsteps with a fabulous line-up of acts - see page 9 for more details.

Our focus continues to be the promotion of local and artisan producers and encouraging a buy local ethos. Nearly 60 exhibitors will be joining us with their produce and goods for you to try and buy this year. A selection of some of Devon’s superb and inspirational chefs will be taking to the demo stage in the Public Hall, cooking up an exciting line-up of tasty dishes to show off their talent. Don’t forget the Budleigh amateur Master Chef final, which promises to be a crowd pleaser! There is a packed programme of Kids Stuff in and around the Entertainment Marquee; fabulous shows and crafting with a foodie theme will keep the children busy throughout the weekend. This year we have extended our main site with two marquees on The Green, the NEW Living & Lifestyle Marquee and a larger Entertainment Marquee. We also have a new Acoustic Stage in the Food & Drink Market area in the Lower Station Road car park. With so much live music and entertainment for the whole family, you won’t want to be anywhere else! It is with thanks to all our financial supporters and our incredible volunteers that we can bring you the fun, foodie, family weekend that we are hosting in 2017, even bigger and better than before! A festival for all ages, run by the community, for the community. We hope you enjoy...

The winning recipe of the home tray-bake competition goes through to the head to head on Sunday with the winner of the public vote of the Festival Tray-Bake Trail. The overall winner will be announced at 4pm!
The overall winning recipe will appear in this year’s published Budding Creativity book ‘One of Our Beavers is Missing’ as Eddie’s recipe!
The idea for this competition comes from Budding Creativity, the annual East Devon young people’s arts project. Their 2017 adventure story from the series ‘Heros of the Jurassic Coast’ features a natural disaster that washes the River Otter beaver trial beavers out to sea. Two local children plan to find and rescue the lost beavers while a third, Eddie, decides instead to raise money to save the trial, which is threatened through budget cuts. Eddie is a foodie fanatic and an amateur chef, and he decides to hold a fundraising cake competition, hence ‘Eddie’s cakes’. The book is called ‘One of Our Beavers is Missing’ and goes on sale in July. In the summer of 2017 a free walk map will be widely available showing where in Budleigh Salterton locals and visitors can buy the book, see ‘One of Our Beavers is Missing’ murals and poems, and it will show where ‘Eddie’s Cakes’ made using the winning recipe will hopefully be on sale!
