A note on finances: (2014) It always seems incredible that festivals cost so much. After all, we ask over 150 presenters to give their time for free, we charge at the door, we search for sponsorship … it’s easy to think that a lot of money flows into our coffers and none flows out. Well, this is how it happens: Brighton Science Festival is a charity; we make no profit. In fact the Festival made a slight loss this year, outlined below. Overall, the Festival reached about 12,000 people. With an overall cost of around £41,000 that means about £3.40 per person, of which about half comes from their pocket and half from our sponsors. We keep ticket prices low. We want it to be as affordable as possible. We would like it to be free. Science is valuable; understanding it is vital. There should be no price barrier. But we have to pay for it, as follows. COSTS Venue hire
