PORTFOLIO

My name is Brigitta Péni, I’m a 23 years old student from Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest (MOME), Hungary. I’m currently in the first year of the MA, on the furniture design faculty. My studies were always bonded to the arts right from the secondary school. First I studied ceramics design in the Higher Secondary School of Fine and Applied Arts, then product design in the university. On the product design BA, I learned the basics of this faculty through varied project and competitions. I had the opportunity to take part in real planning tasks, implementing together with companies and appear on exhibitions. The design tasks of the university (MOME) are often meant to design for real competitions. In this year I had the chance to go to the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair in relation to a project, wherein the Greenhouse I saw the foreign universities projects and had a chat with the students. The exhibition made a huge impress me and this is why I would like to spend the next semester abroad under the Erasmus program. I would like to immerse more deeply in this profession and concentrate on the implementation, the structure of the furniture because in Hungary there’s a greater focus on the conception and the theoretical research. My main motivation is the process of making and the concrete, touchable result. I would love to spend a semester in a practice-oriented way focusing on my faculty, widen my knowledge of it and improve my English skills. I hope my achievements fit the university’s expectations and I would be able to start my next semester in your university.

DOWNLOAD DESIGN BABY KARRIER BÚTOR KFT. birch plywood, braided rope, beech, rollers 44 x 28 x 29.5 cm István Juhász DLA, assistant professor András Kerékgyártó, assistant lecturer Rita Mária Halasi, design expert Dániel Gáspár Construma Trade Exhibition, Home Design 2016. downloaddesign.hu

PROJEKT:

Hungary’s first open design driven furniture initiative, launched by MOME, and the complimentary manufacturing drawings for its 13 pieces of furniture have been downloaded from the downloaddesign.hu website. While in 2015 the theme was first independent homes, designers focused on the arrival of the first baby this year, and that is why the Project’s current title became Download Design Baby. 2016 saw the creation of 11 pieces of furniture intended for the baby room, specifically with the 0–3 age group in mind. Users can get their hands on free design drawings and manufacture their furniture at realistic prices within average joinery industry conditions in Hungary or even on a DIY-basis in their own workshops.

ABOUT MY FURNITURE:

The focus activities for my design was packing and moving toys, something toddlers are most enthusiastic to do. The cute storage boxes with their rollers easily become organic part of the games. Line them up to make a train, connect them differently to turn Bubák into a sideboard or night dresser. Recommended from 2 years of age.

ABOUT MY FURNITURE: Billo is a see-saw children’s furniture, which is simple in the form and structure as well. It works like an ordinary rocking horse. Its simple appearance reminds to the Scandinavian or village furniture. Focusing on the kids, the object is light and portable, the size based on the average size of the kids’ motors and the rocking horses. It was an important aspect that it’s easy to assemble - only one tool need for it - and stackable.

PROJECT: The exhibition booth is the result of the one-semester long cooperation project between the product design department of the MOME and the Hungarian furniture label, Plydesign Ltd. Plydesign brought their new collection of furniture and the university students threw in their fresh ideas for the stand to showcase them. The task for the participants was to design simple, good-looking and practical exhibition booth for the new series of stools and tables of the firm. The stringent brief included many aspects of the work: They have to develop solutions for the lighting, the communication and also the manufacturing. And even if it’s hard to believe, they were the ones who have to build all this up with their own hands.

Let me introduce the team

JEWELRY-LIKE CORKSREW

JEWELRY-LIKE CORKSREW MADE: PROJECT: MATERIAL.: MOME CONSULTANTS: EXTERNAL CONSULTANT: PHOTO:

BA I. semester 2. 2014. Classic design task concrete, metal Pál Koós Bence Madarász, Zsolt Koburger Zsuzsanna Simon, Dániel Gáspár

CONCEPT: There are occasions, which are totally spontaneous, but we can still prepare for them. For example, you decide to go to the riverside and drink a glass of wine in a good company, but you realize none of you have a corkscrew just when you are already there. There are objects, which we couldn’t find only when we really need them. The corkscrew is just like this in most of the situations. This was my first task in the university, to create a solution in the theme of wine opening. My goal was to integrate the corkscrew into an object which is more likely with or on us if we prefer to consume wine, not at home. I created two type of jewelry, which can open a bottle, but this function doesn’t visible when you wear it. Both of them are based on the traditional T corkscrew. One of them is opens and closes with a hinge and hides the screw in the inside. I always loved the unusual materials, in this case, it was the concrete which I used with copper, brass and braided rope. The other one works with a magnetic buckle, and with two simple steps, you can transform it to a corkscrew. Here I also used concrete with steel, magnets, and leather.

CONCRETE MEDAL

concrete, old pictures 6 x 6 x 1,2 cm Rita Besenyői, Bence Madarász Zsuzsanna Simon, Benedek Bognár

CONCEPT: In this project, the task was to redesign an existing object with using concrete. From something old, worthless make something new with an extra meaning. In a lot of basement or attic, you can find old, forgotten diapositive, little memories. I wanted to bring them back to use, and jewelry is a perfect opportunity. The little pictures in a concrete frame are wearable as a pendant. When you wear it, the picture is not visible, but when you turn it to light you can see the “little secret” of the pendant. Every piece is unique and personal, everyone can wear their own dear memories.

PACKAGING PACKAGING

SCISSORS PACKAGING MADE: PROJECT: MATERIAL.: MOME CONSULTANTS: PHOTO:

BA III. semester 2. 2014. product packaging paper Alexandra Nagy Dániel Gáspár

CONCEPT: The task was to design packaging for a simple everyday object. I chose a small size, symmetrical scissors and I tried to make a happy, playful packaging for it. The completed pattern reminds to a scallop and it’s easy to assemble, just fold and glue it.

LITTLE SUN LAMP

LITTLE SUN MADE: PROJECT: MATERIAL.: DIMENSIONS: MOME CONSULTANTS: COMPETITION: PHOTO:

BA II. semester 2. 2015. Lamp cover plan plastic Balázs Püspök Velux, Little Sun Gabriella Kóródi

CONCEPT: It all began with a design competition, established by Velux and Little Sun on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Velux. The applicants had to redesign the case of the Little Sun lamp. During the designing, I tried to create clear and simple shapes, but I wanted to keep the sun theme of the lamp. Children can create the sunny shape by the ribbon which runs around the lamp and can be also used as a neckband. It has spotlight and mood lighting function as well, and the strength of the light can be changed by turning the plate on the top of the lamp. With different colors of the ribbon, you can reach different atmosphere with the light. I wanted to make it playful for the kids. The coating can be made by injection molding.

3D PRINTED LAMP

3D PRINTED LAMP MADE: PROJECT: MATERIAL.: DIMENSIONS: MOME CONSULTANTS: PHOTO: EXHIBITION:

BA II. semester 2. 2015. freely choosen theme plastic h: 25 cm István Keszei Dániel Gáspár Budapest 3D Printing Days, Design Week Budapest 2015.

CONCEPT: The main point in my project for Varinex “What to print in 3D” competition was to design a structure only can be made or worth to made by 3D printing. I liked to create a dynamic, screwed shape, for inspiration I dealt with movement and rotation, studied gyroscope and kinetic sculptures. The braided looking was created by rotating a basic shape. It consist of two layers, every “thread” is curvy and goes through each other, so the most effective way to manufacture it is with 3D printing.

SHOWER CONCEPT

SHOWER CONCEPT MADE: PROJECT: MOME CONSULTANTS: COMPETITION:

BA II. semester 1. 2015. shower concept Panni Pais Caracalla

CONCEPT: With this concept for Caracalla my aim was to shape an easy but unique temperature control, attractive design. Silanoir is a shower installation which truly dominates its surrounding. Simple and clean, unique and spectacular, it provides its user household luxury and personal, a relaxing ritual which fits Caracalla’s profile. “Real luxury lies within the details.”

CPR INSTRUCTOR POINTS

CPR MADE: PROJECT: COMPETITION: MOME CONSULTANTS: TEAM WORK:

BA II. semester 2. 2014. Conceptual design task Medion Panni Pais Annabella Hevesi, Franciska Nagy, SĂĄra Viemann, Brigitta PĂŠni

CONCEPT: We are assigned to create a public space that explains the situation, describes what to do in such cases and also provides an opportunity for the practice. This should be an instrument which is vandal-resistant, withstand to weather conditions and has all the steps that are needed to acquire the proper CCR/CPR knowledge. We wanted to create an installation that makes a deep impression on the user and can become an iconic symbol which sticks in people and thereby becomes well known. We used such symbols what communicate at first glance what the object is all about. And the spot is also a challenge what raising the competitive spirit in the user. An iconic installation what from the right angle shapes a huge heart with a pressure surface at the center. As we getting closer to the spot we can read the steps of the CCR in the correct order until we get to the final step, to the heart massage. This approach makes the people understand the steps. By pressing the button the liquid in the pipes starts to rise. The rules are easy: with the appropriate rhythm of CCR, we can pump the liquid into the tubes. If the user runs the beat or does CCR too slowly, or stops the pushing, the fluid begins to decline. Only the correct pumping fills up the form.
