Primary Colours Arts Education Program 2015

Primary Colours is an exciting children’s arts education programme developed around the primary school visual arts curriculum. The programme is delivered by a panel of practicing artists on behalf of Sligo Arts Service, Sligo County Council. The programme works with 10-20 Sligo Primary Schools. 4th -6th class students and their teachers are invited to take part in a specially curated gallery exhibition tour/workshop and two outreach school based workshops. The programme not only benefits the students but also the class teachers who receive invaluable expertise from the artists by developing dierent ways of looking and thinking together.

The visual arts have an extraordinary power to deepen, broaden and transform the lives of children and young people. To this end, Sligo Arts Service invests in providing opportunities for children and young people to participate in arts and creativity. Through the Arts in Education programme, Sligo Arts Service supports activities that promote the arts as an integral part of education. Sligo Arts Service’s commitment to developing provision for youth is based on the knowledge that the arts are a means to improving quality of life, enabling self-expression, enhancing learning and furthering the exploration of personal and social identity for children and young people as they grow and develop.
