CANNABIS CHEMISTRY

We are able to utilise every part of the cannabis plant, bringing in as many helpful compounds as legally possible to products. From our own research and development facilities, these non-novel products are made in traditional ways, meaning they retain all of the following compounds and many more.

Terpenes

Terpenes are the ‘essential oils’ of the cannabis plant. The 8 primary cannabis terpenes are myrcene, limonene, humulene, linalool, beta-caryophyllene, ocimene, pinene and terpinolene.

Stems

As the carrier of nutrients to the leaves and flower, the outer layer of the cannabis sativa stem can be used for textiles such as rope after harvesting; whilst the inner, woody layer of the stalk is commonly used for fuel, building materials, and animal bedding.

Cannabinoids

Produced in the trichomes that appear when the plant flowers, cannabinoids are the most powerful and sought after compounds of the plant. Over 150 of these compounds have been identified thus far; CBD, CBG, CBDA and THC are the most prominent.

Flavonoids

Flavonoids, also widely known as polyphenols, actually give all plants (including cannabis) their unique colour, as opposed to flavour, as their name may suggest. Cannflavins are flavonoids unique to the cannabis plant.  The three cannflavins (A, B, and C) also have several suggested therapeutic properties and are found in their highest concentrations in the leaves of cannabis.

Carotenoids

In the leaves of Cannabis sativa L. were found the following carotenoid pigments: β-carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin, violaxanthin, neoxanthin and β-cryptoxanthin Carotenoids are a source of Provitamin A.

Sterols & Triterpenoids

Cannabis roots have been used as medicine dating back to ancient times, to treat ailments including arthritis, fever and inflammation. This may be because cannabis roots contain various sterols, including sitosterol, campesterol and stigmasterol.
