Giving Back Scheme (volunteering days)
Birthday
We think birthdays are special and as a result of this we don’t think that you should have to work on your birthday. We therefore give you your birthday off where it falls on a normal working day. If your birthday falls on a company day then you can take this the week before or after so you don’t miss out.
As part of our Giving Back Scheme, you can take up to two paid days per year from your working time to volunteer for either British Gymnastics events, BGF or to participate in activities that support our commitment to Equality and Diversity. To access this benefit, you will need to log it in Cascade under ‘giving back’ and put in the narrative the activity. If you want to volunteer during your normal working day, you will be released to volunteer this will be your day back as you will not have taken leave. If you want to volunteer at the weekend you will be able to take this day back within three months as part of the giving back scheme.

Financial
Pension
We operate a salary sacrifice pension scheme. This is an agreement between you and British Gymnastics where you exchange part of your gross salary for a pension contribution. It works in the same way as other salary-related benefits you might be aware of, like cycle to work and childcare voucher schemes. The main benefit is you pay less income tax, and you and we pay less National Insurance Contributions (NIC). This is because your salary is reduced before tax and NIC are taken. We will reinvest this saving back into your pension and you can choose to do the same which is known as SMART (Save more money into your pension and reduce tax) where your take home pay remains the same. Or you can have the savings by way of an increase in take home pay. Here are some examples:
We’ve used the above figures as an example to show you how salary exchange works based on tax and National Insurance rates for the 2022/23 tax year. Remember, the tax you pay depends on your individual circumstances and where you live in the UK and may change in the future. We have increased our maximum contribution from 5% to 6% to match yours.

Hour of wellbeing
We appreciate that it‘s sometimes hard to recognise when you need to step back and recharge. At times it’s even harder to do something about it when you’re saving up your leave for a long overdue holiday or to ensure you have time off in the school holidays with your children. We feel that being able to take an extra day when it’s needed most is vital for wellbeing, therefore we have introduced two wellbeing days where the organisation will close, and you can take the opportunity to recharge. These days will fall on the last Monday of November and February, both months with dark nights and mornings where we may need a helping hand to feel our best. We have scheduled these days when the company is closed, to ensure that email traffic is kept to a minimum and employees get the maximum benefit from the time off.
As part of our commitment to wellbeing we have launched the hour of exercise initiative. This can be used within work time to exercise, whether this is attending a gym class, going for a walk or run around the block or trialling a taster class. This is managed operationally, so please speak to your manager about how they wish this to be booked. You should of course, ensure that your workload is not affected by taking the exercise.
We have a flexi time scheme that You can also gives you flexibility over start, take an hour finish time and length of lunch. a week for You can choose to start earlier wellbeing by or later to adjust your start or finish time booking it in on another day that week. You may choose the same way, to take a longer lunch (up to 2 hours) and this can be used can adjust your start and or finish time to for anything that improves your sense of enable this.
