WHEN YOU ARRIVE Players travelling alone When you arrive in the UK you will be met by a British Study Centres Young Learners representative, who will be wearing a uniform. They will be holding a sign with your name. When you see us, tell us your name. We will then take you to your transfer (a coach or taxi) and travel with you to the residence. We encourage you to telephone your family when you arrive at the residence so they know you have arrived safely. British Study Centres Young Learners reserves the right to charge a supplement for any player or group arriving outside the hours of 09:00 and 16:00 on arrival day, and departing outside the hours of 09:00 and 11:00 on departure day, with the exception of Friday departures. If you are departing on Friday, we recommend that you book your flight from Manchester from 19.30 onwards. On weekends, the supplement for out-of-hours transfers would be £25 one way, £100 return. Players travelling with parents If your parents are dropping you off on your first day, they will need to bring you straight to the residence on arrival day, anytime in the afternoon before 16:00. If your parents are also picking you up on the Friday, please ask them to pick you up from the closing ceremony from 16:30. All Players Whether you are travelling alone or with parents, we will welcome you on arrival and help you settle in, showing you your room and the facilities. We will explain what happens for the rest of the day, and also your schedule for the week.

GETTING AROUND Transport Accompanied by BSC YL staff, you will be picked up every morning from the residence by private coach, which will take you to the City Football Academy, Manchester City’s training facility. At the end of each day, the coach will take you back to the residence.

OUR STAFF Our team are happy to help you. Here are the different members of staff that you will meet: Manchester City Football Schools Coaches and Specialists will lead your training sessions and workshops. They will work closely with you to help you improve your performance. The Centre Manager looks after the centre. They organise the staff, the activities, the cleaning and the catering. They spend a lot of time talking to the staff at the college and looking after the Group Leaders and other visitors. The Activity Coordinator is in charge of the activity programme. It is their responsibility to make sure you have fun and get the most out of your social activities. The Welfare Manager looks after the wellbeing and safeguarding of all players, and is available if you need to speak to somebody about a problem. The Residence and Accommodation Manager looks after the accommodation. They organise your check-in and departure and make sure you have everything you need in your room and your flat. Activity Leaders will run the evening activities. They will make sure you have a good time; you can always talk to them if you have a problem. Some of our staff are residential, and will live with you at the residence.

DAY ONE Induction Meeting On your first day you will also receive an induction, where you will be told key information. Including programme rules, what to do in an emergency, and other useful information. During this session, you will give us your emergency contact details, fill in your ID (identity) cards and other paperwork. Weekly Schedule You will receive a schedule detailing your workshops, training sessions and performance tests. If you have any questions, please ask your Centre Manager.

YOUR COURSE The Manchester City Football School’s Development Course is a residential football training course focusing on supporting the development of young players who are learning the fundamentals of the game. The course takes place at the City Football Academy and lasts for 5 nights (Sunday to Friday), giving you the opportunity to gain an authentic insight into how players within Manchester City’s youth system train and play at the City Football Academy. The course and training sessions are delivered by qualified Manchester City Football Schools coaches who are experienced in Manchester City’s philosophy and methodology. In the training sessions, you will cover a variety of skills including: development of individual techniques team play and working together mastering the ball playing with style learning how to dominate the game

How many hours will I train and study each week? Each week you will have 15 hours of intensive football training sessions and 15 hours of performance tests and workshops. There will be regular breaks and you will have an hour for lunch. Will I get an evaluation at the end of my course? Yes, at the end of the course you will take away a personal player evaluation with valuable insight into your current performance, and a development plan to improve your game as you return to your school or club. Closing Ceremony You will also receive a certificate on the last day of your course, which will be presented to you in one of the hospitality suites at the Etihad Stadium. Parents are invited to attend this session, and will receive a registration link closer to the time. Who should I talk to if I have a problem or I am worried about something? If you have a problem, are worried about something, or you have a personal issue you want to talk about, ask your Welfare Manager, Centre Manager or any member of staff. OUR STANDARDS We want your stay to be safe and happy. If you follow these rules it will be! You must come to your sessions every day If you are ill and cannot come to a session, contact your Welfare Manager or a member of staff You must come to sessions at the correct time – do not be late! Always listen to your coach and follow their instructions Respect your coach and the other players in your team; do not disrupt the session with bad behaviour Always speak English with your teammates Participate in session activities, you will enjoy it and learn more!

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES Every evening there will be supervised social activities at the residence. They usually start at 19.30 and you will see posters advertising the activities each night. It is important that you follow these rules when you are on activities with us: You must come to all the activities and excursions You must arrive on time – do not be late! Always respect staff members and other players Listen carefully to instructions from British Study Centres Young Learners staff
EXCURSIONS As part of your stay, you will go on the Etihad Stadium Tour on Friday afternoon before your closing ceremony. Remember these tips to help keep safe: stay with your group at all times do not go off alone or with friends be aware of your surroundings and report any suspicious behaviour to a member of staff always follow instructions from British Study Centres Young Learners staff if you are not from the UK: when going to catch the coach, remember that the traffic is on the other side of the road (we drive on the left). Look both ways before you cross the road, and use the pedestrian crossings. Traffic will not stop for you if you step into the road.

INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS International Players Coming to the UK on your own as an individual player is an exciting thing to do. We will do our best to help you have a great stay. This is an excellent chance to make friends from all over the world. If you are travelling alone (without a group) you will be given a mentor, a member of staff who will help you during your stay. They will meet you on your first day and show you where everything is. Get to know your mentor, it is their job to look after you—especially during your first few days. They will show you where to find them, and also how to contact them. Ask them any questions you may have. Your mentor will help you get to know your way around the centre, will introduce you to other players and you will soon make friends. If you have any problems, please ask your mentor—they are here to help.

MEALS You will have breakfast and dinner at the residence, and lunch will take place at Connell College. You will also receive two snacks a day. Breakfast

Food, Glorious Food! Hot meals are usually cooked in big dishes and then served to you by college staff. You need to queue and take a tray to carry your food. You will need to ask for the food you want - remember to say ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you’! There is usually a choice of vegetables, and normally there is salad and bread. In the UK we often have a dessert after the meal. This can be anything from a traditional pudding to yoghurt or fruit. Juice or water is always available. Don’t forget to put your tray away when you are finished. You will be told what to do with your empty plate and cutlery, make sure you follow the rules! If you have any serious food allergies please tell us when you book and also inform your Centre Manager when you arrive. All food will be labelled and all requirements will be taken into consideration.

RESIDENCE LIFE Living in halls of residence with British Study Centres Young Learners staff and fellow players is a fantastic opportunity to make international friends. Here are some important rules to help you have a safe and happy time while living in residence. You must never leave the college campus alone or with friends You can only leave the college campus with British Study Centres Young Learners staff or with your Group Leader if they have permission from the Centre Manager You must be quiet in your residence bedrooms in the evenings The lights in your bedroom should be switched off by 23.00

PLAYER CONDUCT NO BULLYING No hitting, kicking or hurting people Do not take things from people that do not belong to you Do not say unkind things to people or use bad language Do not be rude or aggressive to people Never say unkind things about people’s nationality or skin colour Do not tell bad stories about people Do not tell people they cannot join your group or make them feel lonely

YOUR SAFETY We want you to have an enjoyable experience while you are staying with us. We also want you to be safe at all times. We are committed to ensuring you all have the appropriate level of safety and protection whilst in our care. We have very extensive Safeguarding and Prevent Policies. Our staff are trained and will not tolerate any form of bullying, abuse or radical behaviour amongst our players or staff. Online safety We understand that you will spend time online as it can be a great way to socialise, explore and have fun. However please ‘be safe’ when online Make sure you know who you are speaking to Never give out personal details Never arrange to meet someone you don’t know Don’t look at images or content that make you feel uncomfortable Never engage in Bullying Limit your time online If you have any concerns about the above please tell a member of staff immediately
Security The Etihad Campus is a highly secure environment with perimeter fencing and CCTV, you will be taken to and from the residence in private dedicated coaches and accompanied by members of staff. The Salford University residential accommodation also has its own security measures in place. If you notice anything unusual or suspicious at the Etihad Campus or at the residence, please speak to a member of staff straight away.

DAMAGES It is very important to tell your leader or a staff member if you damage or break something, even if it was an accident. If you see another player causing damage, please report it to the Centre Manager.
WELFARE - Asking for Help If you have a problem, are worried about something, or you have a personal issue you want to talk about, ask your Welfare Manager, Centre Manager or any member of staff. Male and female staff members are available so you can decide who to talk to. If you are not sure who to ask for help, ask any member of our staff and they will assist you. If you are still not happy, you can contact British Study Centres Young Learners head office (please see the player notice board ‘Complaints Notice’ for contact names, numbers and British Study Centres head office address).
