INWA Nordic Walking Instructor Qualification
Why become a Nordic Walking Instructor? All our course tutors are INWA National Coaches whose association with the international body for Nordic Walking means they are always up-to-date with the latest Nordic Walking practice and theory.
Are there any pre-requisites for the Nordic Walking Instructor Qualification? There are no additional qualifications required to become a Nordic Walking Instructor. We recommend that you have had a lesson in Nordic Walking from an INWA qualified instructor before attending your Instructor course and can arrange this for you if you wish.
INWA Nordic Walking Instructor Course – 2 days During this two-day course you will:
Understand the history and benefits of Nordic Walking. Learn to teach using the INWA 10 Step Teaching Method TM. Improve your own Nordic Walking technique and how to improve the technique of others. Find out how to set up classes in your area and successfully market them.
What can you expect?
A fun, information- packed two days, typically running from 9.00am to 5.30pm. A mix of theory and practical sessions including over six hours of outdoors Nordic Walking sessions. The use of video cameras to give you immediate feedback on your technique and develop your observation skills.
Our courses are limited to a maximum of 10 participants to ensure that you enjoy personal attention and feedback throughout. Courses are offered across the UK.
Assessment Day 2 of the course includes a two-part assessment with written and practical elements. If you need to re-take any part of the assessment, you can do so free of charge within three months of your course at any of our training locations.
After the course Once you have passed your assessment you will be awarded the INWA Nordic Walking Instructor Certificate and are qualified to teach classes, provided that you have the appropriate kit and can satisfy the necessary health and safety conditions covered by the course. We do not require you to pay an on-going fee of any kind to teach Nordic Walking. As an INWA qualified instructor you will be able to take advantage of a 40% discount on a set of instructor teaching poles.

A copy of the INWA Nordic Walking Instructor Manual. A copy of all other course materials. The use of poles for the duration of the course. Tea and coffee throughout the course.

INWA Nordic Walking Instructor Course – course content The Nordic Walking Instructor Course is designed for anyone who wishes to become a Nordic Walking Instructor. It provides everything you need to know to teach others to Nordic Walk. Practical teaching includes video analysis for instant feedback on technique.
Day 1 The history and development of Nordic Walking How Nordic Walking originated and how it is used for health, wellbeing and fitness today. The health and fitness benefits of Nordic Walking How Nordic Walking can improve the health and fitness of participants. How to ensure that participants are working at a safe and appropriate level. Nordic Walking poles Understanding the design of the poles. How to select the right length for the walker. Warm up exercises A practical session teaching a full range of warm up exercises using Nordic Walking poles. The INWA 10 Step Teaching Method A practical session teaching the series of ten steps. Explanation of how these steps can be taught in manageable sections in a class environment. Cool down stretches A practical session teaching a full range of cool down stretches using Nordic Walking poles with variations. Managing mixed ability classes Techniques for ensuring everyone enjoys the most from a class whatever their age, ability or fitness level. Health and Safety Risk assessment, insurance, emergency management, route planning.
Day 2 The INWA 10 Step Teaching Method - recap A reminder of the 10 Step Teaching Method. Helping people to get the technique right How to assist people who are struggling to learn the technique. Keeping classes interesting Tips and techniques for maintaining motivation for the long term using fun exercises and activities. Marketing your class How to successfully launch and maintain your Nordic Walking classes on a budget. Assessment Written and practical assessment of skills and knowledge of Nordic Walking.
