Over the course of 2021 the BPF had a record year in terms of new members, with 43 joining the Federation.

Knowledge is Power

The BPF continues to monitor industry trends and report these direct to members. Throughout the year we carried out a number of surveys including Covid surveys (specifically one to track the impacts of the so called ‘pingdemic’) and also a material shortage survey in direct response to members’ queries about how widespread the problems were. These surveys are always sent to members within five days of them closing so the information is as live as possible. All historic surveys can be seen online at www.bpf.co.uk/ surveys

Following concerns raised by members about raising salaries we worked with a number of key members to develop a brand new ‘Salary Survey’ which is set to be launched in 2022.

BPF Reaches Agreement to Provide Platts Polymer Price Information and Insights

In April 2021, a record 97% of our members reported problems sourcing polymer and the situation was causing significant issues for members across the board. Over the course of 2021 the BPF were in dialogue with S&P Global Platts (the leading independent provider of information and benchmark prices for commodities and energy markets in the world) and in December it was announced that BPF members would be provided with access to key polymer prices and market information. This includes access to virgin and recycled plastic price spreads, infographics and news via a dedicated S&P Global Platts area on the BPF website. In addition Platts will hold a number of exclusive member only webinars on polymer supply trends.

Record Number of Sales Leads Sent to Members

The BPF ‘Find a Supplier’ (www.bpf.co.uk/ suppliers) system was launched in 2004 and received over 500 submissions in the first year. The numbers had steadily increased but in 2021 we carried out a significant overhaul, adding new features and an improved ‘user journey’. We sent over 1,600 sales leads direct to members with numerous reports from members that they secured ‘significant’ business as a result.
