Plastic Pellets in the Environment Why are Bertschi UK concerned with OCS ?? We care about our world We care about our environment We care about marine life Volume coming through Bertschi UK is increasing and we need to act NOW !! This is not only a Bertschi Management request but a worldwide attempt by the British Plastic Federation (BPF) for help……… BPF can offer and assist in staff education on how to properly handle and dispose of pellets with a goal to ZERO pellet loss. Bertschi UK now signed up with BPF with Operation Clean Sweep (OCS)
Potential Safety Issue More pellets on the floor create a hazard for slips & falls. No 1 cause of plastic industry accidents
What has Bertschi UK done to help OCS recently ? Create waste bale carriers with floor and sides to prevent pellets falling from the bale during transit from warehouse / lining area to baler Black bins at certain loading points. Sweepings to be placed into the black bins after loading and weighed. Weights to be logged and will be monitored. Assigned one person from Warehouse & Lining Area to monitor and manage pellet containment. Monitor drains on a weekly basis. It’s the little things that count. A few pellets here and a handful there all add up when you consider the thousands of facilities in the industry and the many times plastic pellets are handled
OLD method of moving rolled liners to baler Existing Tray to move rolled up liners to baler
Pellets easily fall from rolled up liner after removing from container, when transported to the baler,
NEW method of moving used liners to the baler
To stop pellets from falling when moving liners. Bertschi UK have built sides and floor to existing tray to stop pellets from falling onto floor.
Hard to see but pellets are now in the bottom of tray and not on the floor. Simply vacuum pellets up
Plastic Pellets in the Environment Installing plastic pipes alongside Tilt Platform to help with OCS. Pipe catches the pellets, which can be easily vacuumed up.
Plastic Pellets in the Environment Bertschi UK Terminal has drains leading to one specific point where an interceptor will ensure no pellets reach open drainage
Plastic Pellets in the Environment Removing pellets from the ground. Simple grid over industrial vacuum nozzle, to reduce sucking up pebbles and other debris.
