The British School of Milan - Development Office

It is with great pleasure that we share with you our second Giving Report, covering the academic years 2020-2022.
The Development Office’s purpose of overseeing fundraising, community relations and special projects was set up in 2018.
We have been gradually creating a culture of giving within the school that reflects and honours our not-for-profit heritage at The British School of Milan.
Fundraising through 5xMille, the Leavers campaign, a silent auction, charitable initiatives, and the setup of an e-commerce site to accommodate digital fundraising are some of the projects you will find in this report.
And now, thanks to your enthusiasm and valuable donations, we are close to launching the BSM Bursary Fund Project. This is an ambitious and long-term initiative that will have a positive impact on all BSM students by creating a more diverse and inclusive student body.
The Bursary Fund will grant financial support to students with limited means. We aim to help change the lives of these students by giving them access to world-class education at the BSM.
Collectively, we can make a difference. Your ongoing support is vital to help continue these projects and achieve our philanthropic vision
Thank you

Based on the votes of the parents, funds gathered will be allocated to Classroom Technology along with funding the Creative arts and Science and Technology departments.
In addition, part of the funds will go towards building the Bursary Fund that aims to provide access to a world class education to needs-based individuals.

The BSM Bursary Fund aims to transform the lives of students by giving access to world-class education.
Building the Bursary Fund means opening the BSM doors to students with limited economic possibilities and provide needsbased support.
In an age where inequality is increasing it is important that the school extends its ambition to widening access, increasing diversity and social mobility while developing more sensibility and understanding of different socio-economic backgrounds and cultures.
Our vision is to welcome two bursary students at the IB level over the next academic years. As we gain momentum, the Bursary Fund will expand to other year groups.
The impact will be enormous, granting students more choices in their studies and allowing them to compete at the highest level and succeed as leaders in the international field.
To make the project sustainable and to ensure that all students can graduate, a financial model with a student mapping plan has been created. An initial funding of €100K is needed to fully fund the first two students.
To date, our fundraising activities for the period of 2020-2022 continuously grow through organised efforts, namely: the Annual and Christmas Donations, Carmine Christmas Concerts, the Anniversary Gala, Silent Auction and the Year 6 and Year 13 Donations.
With the community's continued support, we are closer to making the vision a reality to offer a place to 2 students upon launching the pilot phase of the programme.
IN THIS PERIOD
Charity and community service are integral parts of the BSM education throughout the Primary and Senior Schools. In the past two years (2020-2022), we were able to support 9 local and international charities. A total of €8.614,07 was raised from activities ranging from Poppy fundraising, and Mufti Days to Wear it Green days.
BSM has supported the Make-A-Wish Foundation in a variety of ways, including fundraising events, awareness campaigns, and volunteering opportunities
UNICEF plays a critical role in ensuring that children everywhere have the opportunity to grow up healthy, safe, and with the resources they need to thrive
"We are grateful for our parent group, Friends of BSM, and to all of our class representatives and volunteers for their tremendous support throughout the year."
- Dr Chris Greenhalgh, Principal
The Friends of BSM work closely with the school organising events during the year. In 2020-2022, Friends raised a total of €6.953 from the Prize Draw and from the 2nd hand uniform sales. Friends dedicated these funds towards Outdoor Learning and donating the Greenhouse to the school on behalf of parents. Due to the pandemic, there was no Christmas fair held in this period.
