Birdtail Shorthorns is very pleased to
welcome everyone to the 2nd annual Jewels of the Prairie Shorthorn sale. We have brought some females to town that are ranch raised in the rugged hills of the Birdtail Valley competing with over 200 head of cattle. Our livelihood depends on these girls and so they must be easy-fleshing, excellent footed with good udders and of course have great dispositions. We are presenting out females as such, they have all been out with the herd until end of October, not pushed for performance in any way, but exemplifying what Shorthorn females can really do. Birdtail Shorthorns will be downsizing in the future, so watch for us in future sales! -Birdtail Shorthorns Ray & Susan Armbruster (204) 859 2088 shorthornsue@gmail.com
Welcome.... TO THE

ANNUAL
Welcome to the 2023 Jewels of the
Prairie sale from all of us at Poplar Park. We’ve been raising Shorthorns for over 90 years! We’re very proud of our offering this year. Our 3 heifer calves lead off with a daughter of our powerhouse JT Hercules bull,JT Muffin 51L who was second in her class at Ag-Ex. Our other 2 heifer calves will both make good junior projects that will turn into top end cows. Our 3 bred females are out of great producing cows who represent our top cow families. 2 are bred to JSF Manhattan. Feel free to stop by the farm to check out the heifers and the rest of the herd. See you at the sale! -John & Susan, Russell & Jess

A note from our Hello and welcome to the 2nd annual
Jewels of the Prairie Sale! We are very excited to be a part of this event and offer four females from the top cut of our herd for your appraisal. Last year, our consignments sold to both purebred and commercial herds, as well as a very enthusiastic junior breeder as a 4H project. Whether you’re looking for a roan, white or red, we’ve got you covered! Be sure to walk through the sale barn to assess these heifers for yourself as they have continued to develop very nicely since being pictured. We look forward to seeing you on sale day! - Mosside Shorthorns Jeff Ross (204) 441-1418 Grayson Ross (204) 851-2293 Brandon, MB mossideshorthorns@gmail.com

our Consignors.... Welcome to the second annual Jewels of
the Prarie Sale! Excited to be a first time consigner to this sale! This heifer calf comes from the top of the replacement pen, and is one I should probably be holding onto! See you all December 6th! -New View Cattle Company Nolan Vandersluis Elm Creek Manitoba Box 87 R0G 0N0 431-771-4785
is a 3rd generation herd which originated when my grandfather bought cattle that had been brought in from Britain to be sold for flood relief in Winnipeg in the late 1940’s to 50’s. I began building my herd in 1997 when I moved to the farm and have added genetics over the years from various herds. Herd bulls have been purchased in Canada and the United States and AI sires used as well. The addition Of Glenford De Niro 42K last spring has us eagerly awaiting his first offspring. We strive for optimum performance without sacrificing body depth and thickness. The females need to be feminine and productive with strong feet and udders to remain in the herd. We try to maintain calving ease but don’t push the envelope too hard and lose all of the performance. We welcome your appraisal of our entries to the 2 nd annual Jewels sale. -Uphill Shorthorns, Ross Gray Hamiota. MB Ph: (204) 764-2663 Cell:(204) 365-7155 grayross04@gmail.com
Jewels Of The Prairie Female sale! Alongside our family, we run a cow/ calf operation with 550 cows while backgrounding all our own calves just south of Virden MB. With 95% of the herd being commercial cows we have seen first hand the qualities most important to this industry and have strived to create a cow herd evident of that. Strong maternal instincts, clean udders, easy fleshing and longevity are top priority here. We were once told that a purebred cow is of no genetic value if she can not outperform any other cow in the same environment, which is why our purebreds run alongside the rest of the herd year round. These cows are truly “ranch-raised” which has created some extremely easy doing offspring which can perform in any conditions. This set of heifers comes from the heart of the herd and we hope you enjoy them! We are always open to visitors so feel free to stop by and check out these ladies anytime. -Terrance & Tyler Vodon Box 2338 Virden MB (204) 851-6708 (204) 851-3471 terrancevodon@hotmail.com

17L is a fancy red roan heifer, sired by a big roan bull that we raised, Birdtail Gene 134G. She carries the lines of Saskvalley Pioneer, Saskvalley Copyright and a long line of functional cattle that have worked well for us. And she is really sweet to work with!!

We bought Yvonne’s dam at Chris and Sarah Walwin’s dispersal sale and glad we did as she is super quiet with good udder and feet. Sired by Creekside Retro 8E, this heifer is long spined with depth throughout. We really like this heifer but just can’t keep them all. Pasture bred to Birdtail Huff 32H.

This heifer is out of a really good young red Saskvalley Copyright 20C cow. Her sire is ET Birdtail Falcon 14F that we raised from Muridale Buster 14k and Birdtail Betsy 18X (myostatin free). Had to pry this one away from Ray as unfortunately we only had 1 calf crop from 14F. This heifer is extremely easy fleshing and deep sided. Pasture bred to Birdtail Huff 32H. The Mayflower line goes way, way back to the very first Shorthorn female that the famous Kenmar herd acquired according to Harvey Fulton. Mayflower 106’s dam is one of our best young red cows, sired by Saskvalley Copyright 20C. This heifer is easy-fleshing, good footed, and presents a very feminine profile. She is Susan’s favourite so you know she has a great disposition!! Also pasture bred to Birdtail Huff 32H. Consignor: BIRDTAIL SHORTHORNS JEWELS OF THE PRAIRIE
