Tiny Home Design DESN 101 Final Project Brittany McCue

Introduction Though I’m a Maximalist at heart, the Tiny Home Movement has a certain charm I find alluring. Perhaps it’s the romance of living off the land in a nicely designed tiny space you carry with you, with a few bare essentials and yourself, or with a significant other in tow. The Tiny Home life is a romantic life, and I’ve chosen to create a floor plan detailing such a house. My design is based off of several real tiny houses I’ve explored in the past.

Research A proper Tiny Home needs proper dimensioning so it can reasonably travel with its owner. I researched these websites to produce dimensions of my own and this is what I gathered about sizing a Tiny Home: From Rocky Mountain Tiny Houses: ● ● ●

Size limitations undoubtedly exist. Depending on the trailer, this company will extend a home up to 34-37’ in length. An 8’6” width is “the norm” and pushing it past 11’ requires “escorts”.

From Tiny House Talk: ● ●

In the US, the “standard” door size is 3’ x 6’8”. In a Tiny Home, it may need to be smaller. “Common window widths”: 1′-6”, 2′-0”, 2′-6”, & 3′-0”

Appliances I used real dimensions for my appliances and furniture. Here are a few websites and appliances I referenced: Compact Appliance ●

A combo kitchen

West Elm ●

A Smeg Mini Fridge

Home Depot ● ● ●

Upper & lower kitchen cabinets Toilet Pocket door hardware

Ikea ●

Sink & Cabinet

Wayfair ●
