In Class Assignments Cubes

Objective: Intro to SketchUp. Discover how to create, groups, components, and use materials. Strengths: Real world application using SketchUp. Explored importance of Groups when creating and editing a design project. Weaknesses: Learning how to view model and navigate tool bar was my greatest struggle. Opportunities: I would spend more time bringing components into dummy doghouse as well as creating components within a group if I were to do this project again. Risk: The more components brought into a project the less original the design becomes.

Favorite Small Building

351 Athol Ave, Oakland Ca, 94606

Objective: Show relationship between plan and elevation of favorite small building. Drawing should be to scale using reference points. Exercise designed to get students thinking about how small buildings are constructed before designing our own tiny house.

Floor Plan and Section

.

Interior floor plan of 1bd 1bth bungalow style home. Section cut shows bedroom juxtaposed living room and south facing window Strengths: This exercise forced students to look at houses the way architects and designers view buildings. Weaknesses: I learned a longitudinal section cut would give a better idea of what people do in the space. Opportunities: This project allowed us to see which scale is most impactful in hand drawings.

Taping Group

Objective: design a 160 sq foot living space suitable for double occupancy. Strength: Design is livable with an economic use of space. Weaknesses: Could have used more vertical space by adding second floor. Opportunities: Working with a group under a deadline was a good reflection of real life. Risk: If I were to do this project again, I would add a second floor knowing we would risk losing time on the ground floor design.

Tiny House Project

Objective: Design a 160 square foot tiny house with the capacity to entertain large groups without encroaching on personal space. Strength: Create design around original concept. Weaknesses: Concept should be in every aspect of design/layout. Opportunities:This was an opportunity to create a space for a single person like myself. Risk: I learned it is important to have the concept illustrated throughout multiple aspects of the design,

Redesign

Objective:Create a work bench/dining table Strength: Main priority was adjustable height Weakness: I also wanted the table to be collapsible but wanted to minimize the amount of seams that would interfere with the workspace. Opportunities: It was necessary prioritize the main problems with current tool when redesigning Risk: If I were to do the project again, I would do more research to see how to design a collapsible table with few seams.

MIT Chapel By Peter & Brittany

Objective: Model current architecture as a group. Find problems within design and model improvements on own.

MIT Chapel Redesign

Objective: I chose to manipulate the way light filtered into the chapel through the roof design. Strength: Adding a river of glass created more interesting shadows in the building. Weakness: Adding more skylights turned out to be distracting. Opportunities: If I were to do this project again, I would redesign the entryway Risk: Entryway should not distract from Chapel design

About Me

Having recently graduated from College of Alameda’s Apparel Design and Manufacturing program, I come from a world of fashion design and industry standards. Currently, I am enrolled in San Francisco State University’s Interior Design program where I plan to expand my knowledge of design using a different medium. Creating has always been something I’ve done. My goal is to use my creative spirit and empathetic mind to help form solutions using space and the environment. I believe we are our best selves when creating rather than consuming. However, in order to produce meaningful work, it is important to make with the intention of love, service, and humility.
