TELPARA SUFFOLK AND HAMPSHIRE DOWN STUD Telpara has embarked on a breeding program that has been about understanding who our customer is and then focusing on breeding a type of sheep that meets those needs. 95% of our sale rams go to flock ram buyers, we know this and therefore breed to meet their needs first and the show ring second. We have placed a strong emphasis on performance whilst never losing sight of breeding the right type of sheep. As a result the “Telpara Type” sheep, be it Suffolk or Hampshire are recognised for being thick, meaty, moderate, quiet and easy doing on the outside. On the inside we have been building real performance into our sheep. Strict management of groups has improved the quality of data with no sheep no matter how good the phenotype being selected out until all data is collected. This way we really can sort the wheat from the chaff. We aim to produce a ram that is well suited to crossing with big framed South Australian merino ewes, resulting in a quick growing lamb that can be sold straight off the mother. Our rams have moderate mature weights and we rely on good black hard feet on our sheep that don’t need trimming and feet and legs built to last. Our investment in high performance genetics is paying dividends with a number of our sheep now being listed on the lambplan elites. Lot 3 160061 is ranked #3 for Carcase + out of all Suffolk rams recorded on lambplan in 2016, yet he still maintains the “Telpara Type” and is a window into where our program is heading. We would like to again welcome the family of Bundara Downs to the sale who need no introduction and thank them for bringing a quality offering of White rams to help cater for clients who use both black and white rams in their prime lamb operations. We are grateful to the support we have had in the past and look forward to seeing many of clients at the sale. If you can’t make the sale but still need rams please feel free to call me, arrange a time and we will always do our best to help. Thanks Anthony & Jude Pearce
