System description clino opt 99
Nurse call system clino opt 99 General Ackermann´s nurse call system “clino opt 99” conforms to the currently valid standards and conditions for call systems, DIN VDE 0834 part 1 and 2 : 2000-04 “clino opt 99” is ideally suited to hospitals, nursing homes, residences for handicapped persons, rehabilitation clinics or sanatoria.
System overview The nurse call system “clino opt 99” combines intelligent network users with interactive data communication. The system is able to handle up to 16 zone controllers, each of which can be subdivided into 3 zones. Up to 127 patient rooms (electronic modules) can be controlled via the corridor databus of the zone controller. It should be noted that other direct users, such as interface units or electronic modules with direction lamps, are treated like patient rooms. Up to 255 active units, such as electronic modules, display modules or call modules can be used for each zone. Each active unit represents a network user for the system and can be identified by means of an 8-digit alpha-numeric text.
System characteristics A distinguishing feature of the system “clino opt 99” is its quick and easy installation. It is based on modular technology. The electronic modules can be replaced without entering the patient’s room. Calls and presences can be displayed in any room, e.g. in the duty and patient’s room and can also be answered from there with the appropriate equipment. Additionally, a nurse call guide system can be installed by using direction lamps. The system is equipped with two presence circuits. By activating a presence push button the call from the room concerned is cancelled, the call transfer is activated and the emergency call prepared. Calls from other rooms can then be audibly indicated in this room and displayed by using a display module. Calls from other zones can be displayed by means of zone indicator lamps and display modules. Any zone linking occurs by means of an additional duty selection module.
System structure “clino opt 99” system is an integrated system based on a controller unit, electronic modules and room equipment. The wiring consists of the corridor databus and the room databus (ZB-A, ZB-B), whereby the room databus is a twisted pair. A 6-core cable is required for supplying power, the speech and data lines, where as 4-core cable is sufficient for systems without a two-way speech facility. A suitable cable must be used, taking into account the provision of power in conjunction with the length of the cable as well as the number of modules connected. The electronic modules which are mounted outside the rooms also serve as distribution points for the room wiring and as sockets for the printed circuit boards. The power is supplied by a 24V/DC power supply.
4
System description clino opt 99 Zone controller The zone controller is the central control unit which monitors and synchronizes the complete databus and at the same time represents a higher-level connection to further zone controllers. It controls the flashing phases of the room and zone signal lamps, as well as the acoustic call signals. In this way doctor, emergency, normal, remind and telephone calls can be distinguished. Each zone controller supports 3 sub-groups and thus has appropriate outputs for zone indicator lamps, telephone lamps as well as a common malfunction message system. Further inputs allow staff, dinner and telephone calls to be coupled.
Electronic module The electronics required for call identification as well as the logging of calls are to be found in the electronic module, which is used as the distribution point for the room wiring. Electronic modules with integrated corridor lamp can be used for the whole system. Configuration data is stored in the electronic module’s memory module and is, thereby, still available if the electronic module is replaced. For duty rooms, special electronic modules with additional memory for configured zone linking data are used.
Room equipment Various devices can be installed in the rooms, for example, call modules, call push buttons, pear push buttons and pull cords for making calls, as well as cancel push buttons for cancelling calls. Patient handsets are also an option. In addition to their call function, these also enable patients to listen to radio. The information in the nurse call system can be shown on display modules. Calls are indicated according to their urgency. If there are no calls in the system, then presences are indicated. Use of additional speech modules enables queued calls to be addressed. Calls which have been addressed can be cancelled by remote control. Emergency calls cannot be cancelled by remote control. In the corridors, calls are visually indicated as text on the information displays and optically indicated by the corridor lamps. The following call types are shown. Type of call

System description clino opt 99 Calls to the zone signal lamps or equipment with information displays (when connected) are recognisable throughout the zones. In addition to the visual signals, acoustic signals are also sent to all rooms in which presences are set. The nurse call system divides the calls into three categories: category 1 comprises of normal and bathroom/WC calls; category 2 consists of emergency, diagnostic and priority calls, as well as bathroom/WC emergency calls; alarm calls, e.g. doctor calls, belong to category 3. Acoustically-transmitted calls are identified by means of different call rhythms.
Coupling The “clino opt 99” Nurse Call System can be connected to the “clino call” paging system via the paging interface unit. This transfers existing calls on the nurse call system to the pocket pager of staff via the paging system, indicating type of call, room number and possibly bed identification. Additionally, internal signals, such as fire alarms or technical alarms, can be connected via interface units. It is possible to connect the system to an Instabus EIB (European InstaBus).
Safety In the case of power failure, calls are stored for approximately 24 hours. As soon as the power is switched on again, presences and calls which were set prior to power failure are indicated. In the case of failure of the zone controller, the system operates in an emergency mode, which involves the functions normal and emergency calls, cancellation, presence indication and call transfer to rooms where presence has been set, as well as the visual indication of the corridor lamps. The zone controller monitors all active units and displays any malfunctions as a collective message or as individual messages on the information display. The lamp outputs of the electronic modules are short-circuit protected. All electronic modules are fitted with a “self-healing” fuse. This not only protects the electronic modules but also the equipment in the room. An auto-release plug mounted on the pear or multiple push button as well as on the patient handset prevents damage to the cord. The electrical safety and EMV requirements of all the system components are in accordance with the CE directives. The IP protection classes indicated in the catalogue refer to the completely assembled appliance including cover plate and mounting frames.
Maintenance and service The configuration module is connected via a service socket to the electronic module. This is used to address rooms and, where appropiate, individual beds. In addition, the configuration module can also be used for service purposes. A zone controller can be exchanged without any problem. It gains access to the data stored in the active units and configures itself. Only particular special parameters have to be entered again. The electronic modules can be exchanged at any time without interrupting the operation of the system and, by standard installations, can be installed or exchanged within the entire system.
