AUGUST Welcome to another issue of Brockiewood Magazine, the UK’s most-read lifestyle publication aimed at the lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans market – that guarantees NO smut, filth or ropey chat lines on the back pages. It’s amazing how many magazines aimed at our community are just about sex. Don’t get us wrong, we all appreciate that side of life too, almost as much as the Italian priests recently filmed in Rome, it seems. But we believe the LGBT population is bright, funny and rounded and want to give you that right here. We want to stand out from the crowd. So in this month’s issue, as we’re in the midst of Pride season, we ask what does it mean? How did it start? How has it changed? Is it still relevant? And from Sydney to Hawaii, from London to Liverpool we take a snapshot of some of the biggest Pride bashes across the globe. Also we analyse how the UK’s new coalition government is tackling LGBT issues; we have gay news headlines from around the world; we speak to Dan Griffiths, the hottest (and we mean that in every sense of the word) gay DJ in Britain; we chat exclusively to James Edgington, one half of the Father & Son semi finalists from Britain’s Got Talent; catch-up with a writer and artist who are making waves in the arts world; and two business owners share their own stories about running gay and gay-friendly companies in the UK today. We also have our regulars: food, travel, music, film and sport. And thanks for sending in you shots for our cover top model competition. Yep, YOU could be on the front page next month. Move over Tyra Banks… Don’t forget you get to vote for the face on the September issue, so look through the magazine and find all the friendly faces , select one and vote details on how to vote inside. Have a great month.

PETER TATCHELL RECEIVES HONORARY DEGREE Gay rights campaigner Peter Tatchell has been awarded an honorary doctorate by Sussex University.Mr Tatchell, who has campaigned for equality worldwide for more than 40 years, received the honour for services to human rights. The Australian-born activist began campaigning at the age of 15. In his acceptance speech he said: “After moving to London in 1971, I became an activist in the Gay Liberation Front; organising sit-ins at pubs that refused to serve queers, and organising protests against police harassment and the medical classification of homosexuality as an illness. I was roughed up and forcibly ejected when I challenged the world-famous psychologist, Professor Hans Eysenck, during a lecture in 1972, where he advocated electric shock aversion therapy to supposedly ‘cure’ homosexuality. The following year, in East Berlin, I was arrested and interrogated by the secret police – the Stasi – after staging the first gay rights protest in a communist country. I have continued in the same vein for four decades. Don’t accept the world as it is. Dream about what the world could be – then help make it happen”

WORLD NO GAY RIGHTS CONSTITUTION

ZIMBABWE’S

Zimbabwe’s president Robert Mugabe has confirmed gay people will not be protected be protected in the country’s new constitution. He told an Apostolic Church gathering in the country’s Marange district: “We say no to gay rights. We will not listen to those advocating for their rights in the new constitution.” The country was drawing up a constitution as a result of an power-sharing deal between Mugabe and prime minister Morgan Tsvangirai following the controversial election in 2008. Gay rights groups have pleaded for protection under the new set of laws, but Mr Mugabe has repeated that they will not be recognised. .

The lesbian teenager who was banned from attending her school prom in Mississippi with her girlfriend has settled her case with the school district. Constance McMillen won $35,000 in legal damages, plus an agreement from Itawamba County School District to banish anti-gay policies. When she filed a lawsuit, the school cancelled the event rather than allow her to attend in the same way as her straight friends. She sued the school district with the help and finance of the American Civil Liberties.
EUROPRIDE TAKES PLACE IN EASTERN EUROPE More than 10,000 people took to the streets of Polish capital Warsaw to celebrate EuroPride 2010. A small band of anti-gay protesters held up the parade several times, but two thousand police officers separated the marchers from the protesters along the route, and occasionally intervened when the protesters threw water bottles or eggs at the parade. It is the first time the pan-continental event has taken place in Eastern Europe and is seen as progress for the gay movement. Although progress was sometimes slow thanks to the religious protesters, the parade managed to reach its final stop Constitution Square.
IRISH CIVIL PARTNERSHIPS SIGNED INTO LAW Irish president Mary McAleese has signed Ireland’s civil partnerships bill so it has now full legal effect, giving gay couples many of the same marriage rights as heterosexuals. However, same sex couples won’t have civil partnerships early 2011, as tax and social welfare changes have to be made by the departments of Finance and Social Protection. The rights the bill will give include protections and obligations across areas such as protection of the couple’s home, domestic violence, residential tenancies, succession, refugee law, pensions, taxation, immigration and social welfare.
NEWS ARGENTINA IS THE FIRST COUNTRY IN SOUTH AMERICA TO ALLOW GAY MARRIAGE The parliament in Argentina has voted 33-27 to support a bill to allow gay marriage. This makes Argentina the first Latin American country to legalise same-sex marriage. The bill amends marriage laws to refer to the “marrying parties, rather than men and women and gives full equal rights, including proper adoption equality. Pro- gay President Kirchner said the protests outside parliament and the views of senior Catholic officials “send us back to medieval times and the Inquisition. Argentina is the tenth country to allow gay marriage after the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Iceland, Canada, South Africa, Norway, Sweden and Portugal.
GAY AUSTRALIAN CABINET MINISTER SAYS SHE’S AGAINST GAY MARRIAGE An openly gay cabinet minister in Australia has claimed that she refuses to support gay marriage. Penny Wong, the Labor climate change minister said during a TV interview: “When I entered the parliament, I did actually think very carefully about how to handle being Asian and gay and in the parliament, because it hadn’t been done before. Wong, who has been in a relationship with a woman for a number of years, refused to support gay marriage. “The party’s position is very clear and that is an institution between a man a woman, she said. Adding: “I do respect the fact that’s how people view the institution.

A lesbian couple in Sweden who tried to get a mortgage from a bank say they were shocked to be told by a staff member that they should reconsider their relationship and live apart. Sara Evaldsson and Maria EngstrĂśm decided to move in together after living 100 miles apart and found a two-bedroom property in VästerĂĽs. EngstrĂśm says a female clerk at Swedbank told them that the 490,000 kronor (ÂŁ43,000) loan they wanted to borrow was “a lot of money.â€? She continued: “You should reconsider your personal situation and continue to live in different places.â€?
ITALIAN PRIESTS FILMED HAVING SEX IN GAY CLUB Three Italian Catholic priests were allegedly filmed having casual sex and visiting gay nightclubs. Italian weekly news magazine Panorama said its undercover reporter filmed the trio thanks to a source in the gay community. The article read: “By day they are regular priests, complete with dog collar, but, at night it’s off with the cassock as they take their place as perfectly integrated members of the Italian capital’s gay scene. The journalist claims he saw the priests taking part in gay sex sessions and one even wore his cassock.

Queeras HOME EAT, SIP AND SHOP
This week, Queer As Homes takes us to The store is located in the Kemptown, in East Sussex, to many its heart of Kemptown and the CAMPTOWN, after all it’s only a short stroll trading hours are: from Brighton. Monday-Wednesday Kemptown is full of yummy cafes and combo antique stores but there is one that stands out from the crowd, Kemptown Trading Post & Coffee Shop. A unique business that is the brainstorm of Andrea Keenan. A dynamic lady that has utilized each and every corner of what was once the local hardware store and turned it into s shop of treasures.
8-5.30pm Thursday and Friday 8am -7.30pm Saturday 10 am-5pm Sunday 11am - 5pm
It takes you back to the early 40’s where the trading post was more than a place to buy your bric a brac. Now the store is a place where you can EAT, SIP & SHOP”. The front two display windows display some fantastic vintage classics, and even the cosy seating outside takes you back in time, where you can enjoy one of Andrea’s freshly made to order sandwhiches, with lashings of fillings and a decent cup of coffee. So, while Andrea is making up your order you can browse through the store, but give your self some time, as there is so much to look at. The store is shared as well by individual operators, each uniquely displaying their wares as we mentioned vintage antiques to classsic or modern day one offs. Day in and out the operators take turns at manning the store and help each other in a very community like way serving customers. What I enjoyed most was the huge variety, the beautiful displays and the fact that it wasn’t cluttered: you could actually see all the goods and shattles. Many of the surrounding stores are cluttered and its hard to enjoy, but Andrea has made sure, that the operators understand that its about having a store that is appealing to shop in and not a task. We have loads of photos to show you from many of the operators and insist that you make an effort to go and spend some time in the store. Give your self some time to enjoy a sandwhich,a cuppa and spoil yourself with a bit of a treat.
If there is anthing that you see, in the magazine give
them a call at the store, you can pay by credit card over the phone and they can help organise delivery or hold it for you till you can pick it up.( so long as its paid for) Story by Peter Chipchase QUEER AS HOMES

G?@C@GG@E<J GEORGE PRIOR WANTS TO KNOW WHY THE PHILIPPINES IS STILL BESTKNOWN FOR IMELDA MARCOS’ SHOE COLLECTION RATHER THAN ITS PARADISE BEACHES. . Imelda Marcos, the widow of the former Philippine President, is probably as famous for her one liners as she is for her 3,000strong shoe collection. It was the Philippines equivalent of Eva Peron who once famously said that her country was “neither here nor there.” And as you look at the 7,000 islands scattered around the western Pacific Ocean in Southeast Asia on a map, you kind of see what she means.
You’d have thought that like other countries in the region, specifically Thailand and Bali, with their tropical beaches and coral reefs, the Philippines would have been firmly on the backpacker trail or popular holiday destination. But no. There’s hardly a tourist around. This in itself would make it special, but the Philippines’ varied natural beauty and bustling cities would stand out TRAVEL
even if they were “mass market.” All flights lead to the country’s capital, Manila. This is a city where the word ‘metropolis’ comes into its own. The growing population and the rapidly expanding developments are taking over villages and rice fields on a daily basis. L.A’s notorious urban sprawl has nothing on Manila’s. It’s more a collection of small towns and as such has no real centre; so it’s best to cross the snarling roads and explore it area by area. It is a teeming mass of hyperbole so probably a couple of days will be enough. If you have just one day in the capital head to Intramuros, the old Spanish quarter where the modern Philippines began its story. Manila sits on Luzon, the largest of the islands, and there’s plenty to keep you entertained. Right at the heart of the archipelago is the island of Visayas, which offers palm-fringed beaches and vibrant reefs as far as the eye can see, plus an amazing history. But if you really want to discover one of the last frontiers in Southeast Asian travel, try
Palawan, the western most group of islands. With its lagoons, cliffs, waterfalls, underwater caves and jungle, this could be the setting for Jurassic Park. As a predominantly Catholic country you might think that gay life would be hidden. You’d be right to assume the scene is small, it is, but just because there aren’t many bars or clubs don’t be fooled. Most gay people live fully integrated lives, with society being surprisingly inclusive to the LGBT community. Almost all the major islands have some bars, clubs, saunas or meeting points for gays and lesbians. On Luzon, where Manila’s located and where I stayed, the epicentre of all things queer is Maria Orosa Streeet and Julio Nakpil Street in the Malate area. But of course it is a huge city, so there’s a wide variety. Check out the latest listings on www.utopia-asia.com for info on the gay scene in the capital, and indeed all over the many islands.
19
After a day in Manila, I left the capital and headed straight Luzon’s other most famous site: Banue, the UNESCO World Heritage site, of rice terraces. 20,000 km of emerald green rice terraces were etched out of the hillsides using primitive tools and an ingenious irrigation system over 2,000 years ago by the Ifugao tribespeople. These “stairways to heaven” are an engineering achievement as spectacular as the pyramids. And as most Filipinos will tell you, unlike the pyramids, they were created out of solidarity rather than slavery and are still in use today. When you see it for the first time you will be gob-smacked by the lush valleys filled with perfectly linear paddies. At the centre of this natural amphitheatre is a small village of tin and thatch roofs, called Batad. It has very little electricity, no phones and yet at the same time is perfectly civilised with the locals serving anyone who has the fortune of visiting with a luke-warm beer TRAVEL
and even warmer smiles. In Batad I stayed at Rita’s Guest House, which offers you a real slice of the way of life in these parts. Give me ‘authentic’ over ‘standard’ any day. After just 72 hours of swimming in the sparkling Tappai waterfall, sunbathing on the rocks, learning about the rice terraces and tribes, and being guided through the jungle, I started to realise I’d fallen in love with this place. But that, I guess, is what makes this country so enchanting: it’s the polar opposite of other parts of Southeast Asia, which are rammed full of back packers celebrating their tourist-laden full-moon parties. The Philippines is a striking mix of Malay, Chinese, Spanish, and North American culture where people are still not over seeing tourists. Yet. It’s a place where people will wear a crucifix and believe in the power of crystals at the same time; where an ancient Span
ish fortress sits at the summit of a tribal village; and where everyone wants to join the fiesta. It’s a country where thousands of tropical beaches, some of the world’s best snorkeling, breathtaking scenery and mega cities are begging to be explored. Whatever it takes, do it now, before the throngs of tourists beat you to it.
MIAMI
WELCOME TO SOUTH BEACH. Let’s get to the crux of it: South Beach is weird. It’s a hot mass of eccentrics, Latinos, gays, the body Beautiful, Caribbean immigrants, Jewish holocaust survivors and their children, fashionistas and tourists. Maybe it is all the hurricanes and humidity, but whatever it is South Beach, on the southernmost tip of Miami is one of America’s where you’ll find the most diverse forms of humanity in America. Several decades ago the area was a shimmering patch of luxury hotels and nightclubs. After a steady and steep decline, it became a sleepy bedroom community for poor retirees. That has all changed in recent years, and South Beach has once again been reborn.
hundreds of painstakingly restored hotels, restaurants, bars and cafes which are ideal for taking in the weird and wonderful as the walk, blade or cruise past. OUT AND PROUD Right now we’re in the middle of Pride season. This month alone there are major Pride events taking place in Amsterdam, Hamburg, Leeds, Montreal, Hannover, Reykjavik, Doncaster, Ottawa and Cardiff to name a few. The Pride movement, as we know it today, started after New York City’s Stonewall Riots in 1969. The riots came about after gay people resisted the frequent and unconstitutional storming of gay venues by the police. The unprecedented action of the gay community, and the subsequent publicity surrounding the event, galvanised people across the U.S into having a sense of ‘pride’ about who they were. From the yearly parade that commemorated the anniversary of Stonewall riots, began a national movement which lead to many cities across the globe holding their own pride events today. Last month, for example, Sao Paolo in Brazil’s Pride festival drew more than three million visitors; and Pride London in July welcomed just under a million. And the Conservative Mayor, Boris Johnson, even led the parade. Nowadays, especially in the devel-
oped world, Gay Pride festivals are, for the most part, likely to be less about politics and more about an explosion of parades, music, floats, costumes, live acts and parties. So ‘mainstream’ have these events become that A-listers from Kylie Minogue to Sharon Osbourne; the cast of Coronation Street to the exAmerican First Lady, Laura Bush, have been taking part in Pride events this year.
Now we mustn’t take that for granted and we must continue pushing for the rights of every single lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans person in the UK and around the world. We signify hope. We hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage of the highlights of another truly sensational Pride season. .
That said, even during the most hedonistic of Prides, there is usually some kind of solidarity gathering, vigil or political speech. As we enjoy the floats and the hot bodies we should also perhaps take time to reflect how it started as there is still a huge amount of work to be done. Even though we enjoy relative equality, it still isn’t FULL equality. And for some around the world, in places like Iran, people could still get stoned to death for being gay. The Pride idea is based around us being visible to the public. This simple concept has already achieved what was once deemed impossible. It has brought the straight and gay communities together in an unprecedented way and helped make homophobia less and less acceptable.

PAUL MCKANE PAUL MCKANE HAS WRITTEN A SERIES OF CHILDREN’S BOOKS WHICH HAS A POWERFUL MESSAGE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE Liverpudlian actor and writer, Paul McKane, is on a mission to tell the kids of this world it is actually OK to be different . The 41 year-old RADA trained star of stage and screen has written a series of children’s book, Bap The Amazing Car, which has a positive message of acceptance and diversity. “Well, there was nothing else like it,” says Paul. “It’s about a car which is made from many different parts from a scrap yard: bits of a television, bits of a food processor, other bits from various cars. “He is continually picked on by a smarter, cooler vehicle; it’s bullying, really. But when he meets him later on in life, the bully is down on his luck and breaks down in despair. “Instead of treading on him, and getting revenge, Bap, shows him kindness and support. The message of the story is that through being a better person you can change people’s bad attitudes.
That was then. Now, the acting side of Paul’s life is booming. “I am about to go to America for a movie, which I’m really excited about. Contractually, I’m not allowed to say too much, but I’ll tell you it’s a horror film and promises to be quite gory. “Then in January, I’m filming another movie in Australia!”
How does this impact on young gay people? “I think it demonstrates that should they be challenged with people’s negativity towards their sexuality, they need to have strength of character and self-belief. It also says they shouldn’t go down to their level. Historically, there has been a lot of taunting of gay people and I think this story will resonate heavily with the LGBT community.” Paul began his writing career at an early age. “I dabbled in poetry since I was in my teens. But then I decided to become an actor. I went to several leading drama schools in London but found it increasingly frustrating as it was hard to get work. I even became a stand-up comedian for a while. “I then decided I’d get my break by writing and producing my own soap opera, Life Boys, which was picked up by LWT but when they merged with Granada, it was dropped.”

Even her better albums have ridged into the same rut of country-rock songs that cover familiar themes. So it’s quite a surprise to hear 100 Miles from Memphis, is something new. Inspired by the Southern soul that she loved as a kid and drenched in fullbodied brass sections and stirring B3 organ runs, it’s both a departure and a risk for Crow. That said, sadly, it doesn’t stretch far enough to work as either a contemporary soul record or as a purely retro-minded tribute. While she may have a love of the genre, she doesn’t have a natural flair for it. Aretha hasn’t got too much to worry about.

Right from get go, the album is instantly identifiable for fans as late-night grooves combine with melodies that are both pop-minded and soulful. The title track references “drinking blood like lemonade,” while “Recipe for Disaster” begins “Wanna know why there’s a dead guy in my dining room.” The knack is though that Edwards’ using velvet voice to make it all sound delicious and almost carefree. She can also do breezy, positive numbers like “I Am the Spring.” Add “Crimson,” which would be the quintessential Morcheeba song if “Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day” didn’t exist.

And indeed, even the most casual consumers of popular culture will know her: She is M.I.A. — pop provocateur, trend setter, and multicultural diva. What the Sri Lanka-bred British rapper isn’t here is a very appealing musician. The phenomenal dynamism of her earlier work — a global stew of bhangra, latin funk, and hip-hop, politicised and driven by ghetto beats — is all but gone. Like her 2008 crossover smash Paper Planes, first single Born Free (of the already infamous redhead-massacre video, promptly banned by YouTube) samples an iconic song of the ‘70s punk underground — in this case, Suicide’s ‘’Ghost Rider.’’ It’s kinetic, but as with so many of the album’s more ambitious tracks, ultimately falls down.

And even if Keep on Movin’, the album’s lead track and centerpiece, is way overrated as a song, Caron Wheeler’s voice still cuts through it shiningly; Rose Windross isn’t far behind Wheeler on the far better Fairplay. SCREENBURN DVD | MARGOT
Like many fictional and biopic ballet movies, Margot carries on the tradition of a soap opera plot and silly dialogue. Colin Firth plays George Falconer, a professor of Literature based in LA in 1962. Without even a hint of Mark Darcy or a Christmas jumper, Firth captures the intense grief of a man who lost his long term partner in a car accident eight months previously. The film centres around one single day, where George Falconer plans to commit suicide that evening. A series of events, involving his best friend Charley, brilliant portrayed by Julianne Moore, one of his students, and a Spanish male prostitute, lead to a change of heart, when Falconer eventually comes to terms with his grief. Watching A Single Man makes you wonder how Firth didn’t walk away with the Best Actor Oscar this year. His stylish, sensitive, perfect performance, coupled with Ford’s directing genius, will earn A Single Man pride of place in everyone’s DVD collection.

She can even chase an elevator that’s going down by jumping from side to side. The woman is amazing. Now some might say that Jolie can’t do these things, that what we’re really talking about here is Evelyn Salt, the heroine of the new action thriller, and that Jolie is just an actress. Nonsense. Salt is tailored to the public idea of Jolie as the woman who can do anything. She has six kids and has managed to keep Brad for god’s sake! Salt is a CIA agent in search of a desk job, and on the day all hell breaks loose, she’s just looking forward to a quiet anniversary dinner at home with her kindly, nerdy husband (August Diehl). Then in walks an old Soviet agent, wanting to defect, with a wild story to tell: Apparently, there are Russian nationals embedded within our intelligence agencies, and at a signal, they will commence their doomsday plan. And one of those agents, he says, is Salt. And then all hell breaks loose. For once, she gets to be a woman and a superwoman in the same film. If anyone can, she can…

HIV IN THE OVER 5O’S CATEGORY HAS DOUBLED IN SEVEN YEARS. REPORT: George Prior People over 50 are as much at risk from unsafe sex as younger people, the Health Protection Agency has warned, as it reveals evidence that the numbers becoming infected with HIV in that age group have more than doubled in seven years. 299 new HIV infections among the over-50s were diagnosed in 2000, according to the HPA, which has announced the findings at the International Aids conference in Vienna. However, in 2007 there were 710 new cases. “This highlights the importance of HIV testing, whatever your age,” said Ruth Smith, a senior HIV scientist at the HPA’s Centre for Infections. “We must continually reinforce the safe sex message – using a condom with all new or casual partners is the surest way to ensure people do not become infected with a serious sexually transmitted infection such as HIV.”
when they were younger and diagnosed late. After some early symptoms, people who are fit and healthy often continue to feel well and may not suspect they have HIV for as long as 10 years. Unfortunately, late diagnosis reduces their chances of survival. But half of the over-50s diagnosed had recently been infected, suggesting they had been taking chances. The report’s co-author, Dr Valerie Delpech, head of HIV surveillance at the HPA, said older people often feel the warnings and advice doesn’t count for them and, as a result, take unnecessary risks.

“Although adults aged 50 and over account for just 8% of all new HIV diagnoses, the fact that cases have more than doubled in recent years serves as a timely reminder that anybody is at risk of HIV infection if they do not use protection and practise safe sex,” she said.

“Shall we go Upstairs” The official opening party for “Upstairs”, the rooftop lounge that I was a part of building and designing, was hosted by New York Magazine. Among the crowd of attendees were notable guests such as Mira Sorvino, Beth Ostrosky Stern, Countess LuAnn DeLesseps and a host of upper east side Socialites. The aesthetically beautiful wait-staff, styled and crafted by The Blonds, added a visual confection for the guests while complimenting the decor of the venue. Speciality cocktails were designed by Master Mixologist, Alex Ott and the featured mouth-watering, sumptuously sensational cuisine was invented and presented by Chef Gwen LePape, and believe, me, the colorful flavors pale in comparison to his personality.

An early evening downpour of rain beat against the glass walls and ceiling for about an hour until the sky was quiet and DJ Sted-E began to lift the music to a level that got everyone feeling their energy...The already satiated guests, having felt safe and sheltered during the storm, were suddenly jaw-dropping awe struck as the all-yearround retractable glass roof was dramatically peeled open to reveal a panoramic view of the city’s twilight, while the Chrysler Building, in all its glory, took center stage from the South balcony.

SYLVIA AT FOLSOM STREET

“I think I’ll have some pie...” On Memorial Day weekend I headed over to summer outdoor hot spot, Water Taxi Beach. Throughout the summer weekend days and nights are packed at this great location that exists on the Queens side of the East River and faces a gorgeous view of the NYC skyline (The Empire State Building dead center). On this particular lovely day Sea to Sun Recording artists and DJ’s Sted-E & Hybrid Heights were booked to spin their flavorful beats. Aqua vitae in hand, we watched the sun set beyond the skyline as we bounced to the infectious house grooves.
The Countess makes a Splash…. Gay Pride week in New York City this year had quite a kick off in its annual form, beginning on Father’s Day, of course, at the Folsom Street East Street Festival, where thousands gathered on 28th Street, launching an entire week of parties and primped pompadour combed pansexuals, all culminating at the Hudson River for the Pier Dance a mere 7 days later. OUT AND ABOUT IN NYC
I had the great pleasure of passing through the primordial “portal” of ass-less leather chaps, bondage attire, hoses, tubes, rubber and the like; Yes, I celebrated Father’s Day with my “Leather Daddy’s”. My dancers and I put together a performance for the outdoor stage that ended up being more fun and shocking than ever imagined... The best part about it was that we were the headlining act, therefore, last on the roster of talent for the day...Where am I going with this? Well, our performance followed something I would have to tell you in order for you to imagine...Lined up on the stage were several handsome trouserless men, bending over a wall of haystacks...It doesn’t “end” there [pun always intended]... At once, several other handsome men rushed out to the stage with cream pies in hand and with a running start, smashed the pies into the boys’ bums that were leaning over the haystacks!
est, therefore, winning the contest! Once this was over and a winner was chosen, the crowd was roaring as the stage hands were cleaning and sweeping the whipped creamed mess and making everything nice and tidy for the final act...All I could say as I took the mic was, “I think I’ll have some pie...”
Okay, so here’s the good part; The same set of gentlemen who had just smashed the pies in the bums now were racing to see who could eat the pie from the benders’ bums the fast MIRA SORVINO, BETH OSTROSKY STERN, AT UPSTAIRS; PHOTO

Davide Torche, Mike Ruiz, Phillipe blond, SYLVIA TOSUN, YAEL MANOCHERIAN PHOTO BY JAMES DEVANEY ““Crazy”...” The party did not stop there... When we ended the day on the streets of sin, we headed over to hang with our favorite NY Showgirl, Peppermint, who was hosting Karaoke night at our local Chelsea “smart casual” bar, XES. The rainbow clad entrance cloaked the dark, sexy crowd of drinkers who were ready to unleash their inhibitions once they had enough vodka to get the nerve up and sign on to sing their favorite song, [whether we were to like it or not]. The libations filled the room with intoxicating cheer as the tall, meticulously made-up and manicured, mocha beauty came strutting out with her gorgeous, perfectly formed legs that seemed to go on for days, as she welcomed all of us as we were swaying our cocktails as if they were beer mugs in a gin mill. As you might imagine, our group was not above reproach in this environment, for we too, were engaged in more than

our fair share of aqua vitae whilst clamoring for that book in which we would choose our musical masterpiece, and deliver the songs we always wished we were able to sing but, never could, until that night...Obviously, one must be inebriated to have such confidence, [well, that ‘one’ was me and ended up singing a quick “Crazy” by Patsy Cline]. It started out with my choreographer, Derek Mitchell, who proceeded to swipe a very tall chair from the bar and bring it to the stage...the crowd gave a gasp and began to partially sober as he perched himself onto the tippy top of the back of it where he sat, balanced like a bird as he began to sing like one. He morphed into Macy Gray right before our eyes and how appropriate the lyric in “I Try” was at that moment...[yes, we all tried not to stumble or crumble for sure]...Then, Peppermint decided to have a contest for a grand prize. She announced that the theme was going to be “sex” and suddenly, here came David Blond, who, with the help
of dancer, Kelsey Fuhrman, brought George Michael into the room with “I Want Your Sex” and finally, ended up the Winner of the Grand Prize for the evening...They won some gay porn videos and by that time, we all called it a ‘crazy’ night...

Tony V gets up Close and Personal with JAMES EDGINTON James is one half of the father and son duo from Britain’s Got Talent. The semi-finalists sang their way into the nation’s hearts and made Amanda cry and Piers jump to his feet for an ovation with their performances and personal stories of triumph over adversity. Congratulations on getting so far on Britain’s Got Talent. How did it feel walking out on that huge stage, facing the judges, and singing for millions of people? It was amazing! And a very surreal experience. We were both nervous but it was a keyed-up nervous energy. I’d been waiting all my life to do something like this. I felt strangely safe on that stage. We both had butterflies in our stomachs, we’ve both performed for a lot of years, but never on such a huge scale. What were the judges like? Well before you get to go on stage you meet them briefly so it was OK. Out of the three judges (Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan), Simon is the real mover and shaker so it’s him that everyone tries hardest to impress. It has been said your performances were always packed with emotion. Yes, and I think the audience felt that too. When we first sang This Is The Moment, my dad started the song and three words in to it and the audience were on their feet, Amanda was crying and at the end Piers gave us a standing ovation. It’s a shame that the audience didn’t get to see that part in the final cut as we had a short edit for that song.

felt I was perhaps further down the acting/singing career ladder than I should have been, so that inspired him to send off for the applications for the show. Did you not know your dad had applied? No, not at all. I’ve been an actor and singer for the last ten years or so and at the time I was working in a show in Northampton. He applied, but he didn’t say anything until he had confirmation from the producers that we’d made it through to the audition stages before he told me. Are you single at the moment? (laughs) Yes I am…and I’m not giving too much else away…(laughs) What are you currently working on? Well, we’re doing some gigs together on the back of Britain’s got Talent, but we know there’s probably a shelf life for that, so we’re also developing our solo careers. My dad has also been a professional singer for many years but had to give it up after my Mum died to look after me. I would like to pursue my acting career –perhaps moving into the west end or in a TV drama – and record an album. I understand you’re also setting up a charity? Yes, the charity I am launching is called ‘Jennifer’ which was my Mum’s name, and is for the support of widowed fathers and their children. At the moment there’s no charity like this anywhere. www.fatherandsonentertainment.com Twitter: @fatherandsonbgt
That must have been devastating for you and your dad. It was and it has forced the father/son bond to be even stronger than perhaps it ordinarily would be. We are extremely close as a result of that. We went out on stage and we both performed for my Mum, perhaps that’s another reason why other people found it so emotional. Having said that, I think some men, especially in the UK, find it hard to show emotions with another male member of their family (be it a father and son or brothers) but I don’t get that. If you go to places like Spain or Italy it’s completely different. Both you and your dad have beaten cancer too. I had testicular cancer and my dad had breast cancer but we’re both in the clear now but still have regular checkups. As I kind of took two years out to recover, my dad BrockieWOOD UP CLOSE & PERSONAL

RANGE ROVER SPORT I am reticent to write about four wheel drives. I don’t mean four wheel drive performance versions of normal cars, but rather the supposed “off road” variety.
put those figures in perspective, it is around twice the weight of the average family hatch, and the CO2 output is over three and half times the level of the best small cars these days! I could just leave it there and dismiss this car out of hand.
This kind of vehicle can trace its ancestry back to the American Jeep of WW2 or the post war Land Rover. These vehicles tend to be large, heavy and thirsty and moreover, a lot of the people who buy or drive them are making a statement that the road is not a place to share, but a place for them at the exclusion of other users. Enter the 2010 Range Rover Sport Supercharged.
But no, it’s just not that simple. Firstly it is a Range Rover in name (even if it is basically a Land Rover Discovery underneath). That says prestige, class and awesome off road ability. Drive this monster and you feel special. It is the Ferrari of 4 wheel drives.
This £63,000 leviathan weighs over two and a half tonnes without anybody or anything in it. You will not get close to 20 mpg in real world driving and it emits 353g/km of CO2. To BROCKIEWOOD MOTORS
Secondly it packs a 5.0 litre supercharged V8 engine straight out of a Jaguar XKR. Despite its gargantuan weight, it is capable of 0-60mph in under 6 seconds and a top speed of over 140mph. Believe me, that sort of speed in this vehicle feels awesome simply because you know and feel the weight the engine is pushing
round. The brakes manage to shed the speed just as effectively. The handling is really quite sporty. Just how Land Rover managed to get this thing to steer, go round corners and stop without breaking the laws of physics is beyond belief, but the engineers have worked very hard here, and they have succeeded. You would have to be very brave or stupid to get yourself into trouble with this thing. You may run a few people over without noticing, but the car will stay on track! I won’t go into its off road ability as its unlikely to go off road, suffice to say it is as good as it gets compared to its rivals and then some!
47
“Move Out the Way!” When you climb aboard you sit perched up on the large throne- like driver’s seat and look out and survey all around you. You feel like you are in charge of the road. I would point out at this stage that due to the sheer scale of the cabin you do look a little silly if you are anything shorter than about 6 feet. I suggest if you are thinking of buying one of these you get someone to take a snap of you in the driver’s seat before you sign on the dotted line!
I can’t seriously advise you to go and buy one of these but I can usefully suggest you respect one when you see it, and given the driver might not be able to see you down there it would be wise to move out of the way.
The interior really is a triumph though. It is a special place to be. It’s more like a well designed living room than a car interior. From the build quality down to the design and choice of materials it is in a league above any of its German or Japanese competitors. As I have said before in this column, Jaguar and Land Rover have really moved the game on in terms of how a car interior should look and feel. Once you have come to terms with the negatives surrounding this car it is hard not to feel anything but affection. This country makes the best of these vehicles. Be it the Freelander, the Discovery or the full blown Range Rover, they sit head and shoulders above the competition, not just in ability but also desirability.

RENAULT MEGANE 250
SPORT
THE ULTIMATE HOT HATCH
T
he prize for the ultimate hot hatch at the moment is being fought out by the Ford Focus RS and the Renault Megane 250 Cup. The Focus has more power and is faster in a straight line, but it lacks the final element of polish provided by the Megane. Again with the styling, the Megane looks well proportioned and very sleek and sporty whereas the Focus just looks aggressive and bulky.
The final nail in the coffin for the competition is that is costs just over £23,000 and will achieve close to 30 mpg if you don’t over use the performance available. A focus RS and Seat Leon Cupra R which are its closest competitiors cost nearly £28,000 and £25,000 respectiveley. This really is a great car and for £23,000 you will have a ball in it. Nothing will give you this much fun for this much money. At the moment no other hatch looks like taking its crown.
There is little doubt that the previous Megane Cup certainly moved the game on in terms of handling ability for the hot hatch and whereas the new model is awesome in the way it steers and feels, it is just that little bit more civilised than it used to be. The ride is still firm, but the car is still razor sharp to the drivers input and the engine delivers the goods as long as you rev it to keep in the upper ranges of the power band.

Kit Wynkoop “The purpose of our lives is to be happy.” – Dalai Lama
Give Yourself Some Credit Sometimes, we can be very down on ourselves. We get into a mind-space that gives us permission to rag on ourselves. That leads to feeling we can do nothing good or right. Then, of course, this lands us right in the cesspool of self-degradation. Not surprisingly, the things in our lives then follow suit. The reasons we fall into that mind-set are infinite and they seem soooo convincing at the time. But let’s get back to reality, shall we? We are amazing beings – each of us. Even that strung-out crack head in the gutter. Seriously. The fact that we are alive in these bodies experiencing this physical world is amazing. Our work here is to focus on the beauty and magic of it. The ancients say that the spirits who choose to manifest in the physical world are regarded highly in the spirit world because we have chosen to be the vehicles through which Great Spirit experiences physical life. You are so much more than you may think. You are successful way beyond what you remember. Take some time to reflect on the achievements you’ve made in your life. That may sound ludicrous to some and trivial to others but, nonetheless, this is one of the most impactful exercises you can do for yourself.
Get a notebook or several pieces of paper and a pen or pencil. You’re going to make a list of all of your achievements in life. Many people will want to start with their current job or relationship or even their success at graduating college. I’m going to encourage you to start with the day you were born. Your list may start something like this: · Took my first breath · Opened my eyes · Learned to take Mother’s milk There is no achievement too small to add to this list. Many things we’ve done, we have taken for granted. List ALL of your achievements. It will take you a number of days. Keep the list handy for when your achievements come to mind. Don’t forget: learned to crawl, walk, add numbers, ride a bike, be friends with other children, brush your teeth, etc. and a whole mess of things in between. Yes, other people (it may have been your parents) encouraged you to do some of these things along the way but it was YOU who set the goals and accomplished each one – make no doubt about that.
of, stop and take a hard long look at the entire thing. Read each accomplishment. The first thing that should hit you is you have been a success since the day you were born. Let that soak in for a minute. Next, what were the ingredients of each success? What was the process that led you to each accomplishment? How did you get from A to B? I can tell you this much: they all began with a feeling – a feeling of what you wanted – whether it was conscious or subconscious. What led you to each “goal” was the strength of the desire you had to attain it; the energy behind it. When you’re feeling that energy – the energy of your desires - you are being totally and undeniably in alignment with your true self. When we’re not feeling that energy, we’re pinching it off a bit. So how can we lift ourselves up when we’re down in the dumps? Keep that list of achievements handy – it might just be the thing to keep your spirit going.
Passed my tests in school (or in my case: had the courage to take the tests), feed the cat every day, learned French, became skilled at duping people, got the janitor job at the fast food restaurant, made enough money to pay my rent, became a CEO of a small company, had sex with 5,000 people, found my true love, tend the garden, …Write them ALL down. Your list is never finished but when you’ve listed as much as you can think

GEORGE SAYS
T
HE coalition government:
Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, lead the Pride parade through the city wearing a pink Stetson and came out in full support of gay marriage. Theresa May, in her role as Equality Minister, has unveiled a raft of new policies aimed at the gay and lesbian community. And David Cameron, our new PM, hosted a ‘gay reception’ during the run-up to Pride. So is this new government the most gay-friendly we’ve ever seen in Britain? And will they match Labour’s record at supporting gay rights and equality? May be they will; may be they won’t. But before we start hoisting the rainbow flag above No 10, perhaps we should delve a little deeper. Lest we forget, it should be pointed out that the Boris Johnson who led the parade last month was also the Boris Johnson who was in favour of the anti-gay legislation Section 28 and who this year scrapped the annual mayoral reception at City Hall for Pride. In 1998, Theresa May voted against an equal age of consent. Then two years later, she voted against the repeal of Section 28. In 2001 and 2002, she voted against gays and lesbians being able to adopt. And this year, in the face of much publicmocking about her awful gay rights record, and 50,000 people signing a Facebook petition, she did a U-turn on Question Time about her views on gay adoption. And neither Nick Clegg nor David Cameron was able to attend any Pride events as they had “previous engagements.” It’s the first time in five years a senior member of the cabinet has not been present.
The story so far...
All that historical stuff aside, the coalition’s new policies (which were recently set out by none other than Theresa May) include the introduction of civil partnerships in religious buildings, the abandoning of historic convictions for consensual gay sex, better anti-homophobic bullying programmers, the lobbying of other countries to overturn homophobic laws, as well as an ending to gay asylum seekers being deported. Pretty good so far you’re probably saying. But like so many things in politics, things are not all that they seem. During his speech at the ‘gay reception’ where prominent members of our community were offered tea and biscuits with the new power people, Cameron said: “I am pleased to announce today that if religious organizations, if churches, if mosques, if temples want to have civil partnerships celebrated at religious places of worship, that should be able to happen.” But then he added: “Of course those organizations that don’t want that to happen have their rights too.” Talk about “He giveth and he taketh.” Basically, any religious groups will be able to choose not to hold civil partnerships; which will mean that the vast majority will do just that. That, according to Cameron, is their ‘right.’ Since when has discrimination been a ‘right’? This is just one example of how the coalition’s stance on gay rights looks rosy, but is fundamentally ineffective. Another would be Cameron’s election pledge to look into the idea of full marital status for gays and lesbians. This is now off their political agenda for the foreseeable future. So far, it appears that the government is saying all the right things with lots of fanfares and high profile receptions, but that is about it. Under New
Labour, the gay community benefitted from the repealing of Section 28, the introduction of civil partnerships, the legalisation of gay adoption, the lifting of the ban on gays and lesbians in the military, and making the age of consent equal. The new coalition has a lot to live up to. That said, at least a lot of issues are being discussed at a high level and in a positive way. I sincerely hope once the honeymoon period is over and the politicians put away the pink Stetsons, this new-style government lives up to its promises and is able to match, or even surpass, the progress made by the last administration.

27 YEAR OLD DAN GRIFFITHS, AKA DJ DANSON, FROM CARDIFF IS ONE OF THE HOTTEST (IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD) DJs IN THE COUNTRY. HE CHATS TO GEORGE PRIOR ABOUT CLUBBING, HIS PLANS FOR THE FUTURE AND WHY HE’S SINGLE. How did you get into being a DJ? Well it all happened about seven years ago now. I was, and still am, a clubber. I love the energy of a good club night. Sadly though, around that time I felt a lot of the venues in my area just weren’t playing the right kind of stuff and, as a result, the atmosphere changes in a club as the music is essential. It was a time of ‘musical depression’ really. A lot of clubs changed ownership and they lost their direction for a while. I started thinking that I could probably do a better job – as a clubber I knew what the crowd wanted - and got inspired to give it a go and jumped on it! Thankfully, a lot of hard work, patience and dedication to getting it right is now all paying off. Is the club scene now a better place? Yes, definitely. There’s been a kind of club revival over the last few years. It’s come full circle - we’ve shaken off that ‘depression’ and now it’s all good again. In Cardiff, for example, there are more venues than ever before which is great for the public and great for the DJs. It’s really been working well over the last couple of years and people from all over the country now come to Cardiff. It’s a clubbing ‘destination’ now as there is more choice and so much happening.
Do you have a partner? No, not at the moment. I did a while ago but at the moment I’m single.. Are you looking?
(No answer…but laughs a lot) Does being a DJ get you lots of interest?
(Laughs) I suppose it does help you get offers. But Has the gay/straight ratio in clubs changed over the believe it or not, I’m actually quite shy (especially for a DJ) and tend just to keep my head down. But I years? Yeah, I think so. Now, it is normally more mixed than do get some random people coming up to me…and anything else. Although I always think that clubs should the later the night goes on the weirder and more be careful not to lose their ‘gay’ identity and personality wonderful they tend to be! as that is what people - gay AND straight – are there for. They like the buzz, the atmosphere, the music in gay clubs and if they abandon that there’ll be nothing for them. I like straight people coming to the clubs; I like gay people coming; I don’t mind who is there as long as they’re up for a good time.
Do you have a playlist when you do a set or do you judge the crowd as you go along? Well, it’s a bit of both, really. You play the stuff that you think is right for the venue and the night but also, if the crowd aren’t responding you need to be flexible and adapt it. I’m lucky that I’m given a free reign, but it’s ultimately the clubbers themselves that indirectly will set the tone and mood of the night. Sometimes, for example, it’s all commercial dance chart stuff all night; then it can be a bit of everything the next. You have to instinctively respond.
Do you have any icons in the industry? Yes, lots. But I guess Tiesto would be my personal favourite. He’s totally unique and is a master at what he does. He’s always kind of been in the background and now he’s way out in the forefront and has changed the industry for the better. Where do you see yourself in five or ten years’ time? I’ve learnt never to plan too far ahead. This industry doesn’t work like that. But I intend to grab every good opportunity that comes my way!

I first established myself in small bistro-style pub before moving on to many beautiful restaurants where people came together to ‘Eat, Sip and Celebrate.’ I love the movie Field of Dreams and my favourite line from the film, “Build it and they will come,” plus my passion for all things Hollywood and movie stars, led me to create a theme to my menu.
Now it’s time to let you in on the fine secrets of my success and share my recipes. So let’s eat. Each recipe comes with a name of a Hollywood idol or diva that the meal has been named after, plus whether to serve it as an entrée or main. If you’re confused just have another glass of red and keep cooking… This is my tribute to the stars.
Sony and Cher Jambalaya
THIS IS THE PERFECT dinner for two, just like Sonny and Cher is a mixed pot of actor come singer come politician come diva. This is a great meal to put together with all those left over cuts of meat, seafood or poultry or just start fresh. Ingredients ( per serve) You need a variety of the following • Chicken Pieces • Mussels • Creole spice • Pork pieces • Scallops • Herbs • Steak pieces or any other bits • Salt and pepper • Prawns • Onion • Crushed peeled tomato you can add any veg Method
PERFECT CASSEROLE POTS Bruce Spingsteen Chicken skewers A great, easy to prepare, vegetarian dish, . Ingredients 4 Chicken tenders per serve which makes two kebabs • 1 green pepper cut into a cubed slice • 1 onion cut into a cubed chunk • Margarine • Crushed Garlic • 1 x tablespoon Honey soy • Kebab sticks Preperation Holding a stick in hand push a chicken tender through the stick lengthways, covers more of the stick and holds better, then add a slice of pepper and a slice of onion, and repeat so you have two pieces of each on the stick. Method Use a large frying pan, as you will need to cook the kebab sticks in the pan. Melt the margarine and add the garlic, and blend through then pan fry the kebab sticks turning till cooked through, this can also be done on a bbq and using metal kebab sticks. Once the kebabs are cooked pour honey over the top and the soy sauce, and baste the kebab sticks allowing them to sit for 2-3 minutes, be sure not to burn your sauce. Alternatively, make your sauce in a separate pan, using the butter, garlic, honey and soy, and cook your chicken and pour the sauce over the kebabs. *J@OKP LET’S EAT WITH TONY V
If using fresh uncooked ingredients, cut all your meats into chunks and place in a pot of water with just enough water covering the meat and a bit over, and then add your seafood, diced onions and herbs and spices. Slow cook for 2 hours If using cooked leftovers same method only cooking time is less probably more like 20 minutes, so the meats and seafood take the flavors of the spices and herbs. Serve over rice

GOOD FOOD & WiNE 85
The Raw Revolution The raw food diet has become extremely popular over the decade or so. Everyone from Coldpay’s Chris Martin to Madonna, from Demi Moore to Gwyneth, are extolling the virtues of uncooked food. Science backs up their claims that cooking our food kills of many of the key nutrients and cooking makes it harder for the body to digest food. The reward for raw is better health, weight loss, better skin and better hair. But for most of us, such a diet sounds daunting. It sounds boring. It sounds impractical.
Here are some tip’s from the Brockiewood Kitchen. So do you have to eat a totally raw diet to get the benefits of uncooked foods? No, is the answer. You can put your toe in the water of the raw foods movement without morphing into a Madonna-style macrobiotic Nazi.
many and yogurt and other fermented dairy products found in many cultures, including Greece. Food is our fuel and when we eat foods that are closer to their original, natural forms, they provide a higher quality of energy for us. Raw foods are also packed full of fibre which means we’ll be more cleansed and our skin will be regenerated quicker.
blender. It is used for making raw soups, purees, juices and smoothies. Why not embrace the notion of a raw food diet little by little and introduce a salad or soup into each meal? That way you get the benefits without having to resort to being Rawfood-zilla.
Raw foods, especially raw fruits and vegetables, are also cooling and hydrating, so during the summer is the perfect season to start including the idea of raw in to your diet. The main components of the raw food diet are fresh fruits and vegetables, sea vegetables, nuts, seeds, whole grains and various herbs, spices and seasonings. The soaking of nuts and seeds make them more digestible.
It’s best to take an intuitive approach when it comes to food. That said, including a percentage of raw and lightly cooked foods in our diet is important— not just to add variety of textures, colours and flavours, but also for the health benefits. Investigations on enzymes show the importance of raw foods to support healthy digestion and absorption of nutrients. These enzymes found in uncooked food start digestion in the mouth and upper stomach. But, when food is heated, the enzymes stop working. Our bodies do produce their own enzymes for digestion, but the process is speed-up and more efficient when we get them from our foods as well. Most cultures incorporate some raw foods. For example, salads and fruits salads to raw animal protein such as fish (sushi), meats and raw dairy products. Fermenting and culturing food will also increase enzyme power, and you will find that most traditional cultures have this too, for instance pickles and fermented soy in Japan, sauerkraut in Ger

When you visit Bournemouth you just have to stop at the Pâtisserie Angélique. You can’t miss it: it’s the pretty yet bold pink building situated at 79 Poole Rd Westbourne. You will be greeted by hosts Toby and Philippe, who are partners in life and in business. Phillippe (French by name and nature) is your wonderful pâtissier. Be prepared to enjoy Les Repas (a light meal) and leave room for the Pâtisserie Cabinet! We started with Feuilleté Jambon Smoked Ham and Tomato on Flaky Pastry and Quiche aux Poireau - the quiche that men will eat! After this lovely start and too many delights to choose from we decided to sod the diet and chose a selection of Mille Feuille Patissier, Gateau Breton, Tarte Amande and Far Breton and a double cappucino. Pâtisserie Angélique is a highly recommended stop on the coast, and they house a great sun terrace too. It is BYOB and be sure to look out for their Pink Sundays, details coming soon on the website. Au revoir!

FOOD MASALA ZONE LONDON Walking down Floral St in Soho, my partner and I were drawn into Masala Zone by the colourful dolls hanging from the ceiling. Aside from the eye-catching décor, Masala Zone is a recognisable chain, famous for their quality Indian dining around London. My partner and I began with a bountiful Grazing Platter (serves two). The Grazing Platter offers Bhel: a crunchy salad of puffed rice and lentil noodles with chutneys and peanuts. Bhel is a favourite of ours; it is crisp light and fresh and lifts the Dahi Puri very well. Dahi Puri is a puffed hollow biscuit filled with potato and chickpea mash, topped with yoghurt and chutney. Sev Puri is the spicier mini-dish: wholewheat biscuits piled with spicy mash, fresh chutneys and fine lentil noodles. The winning feature of Masala Zone is the way it serves traditional Indian food in a modern, exciting restaurant. For our mains we ordered a delicious Grand Thali. Thali is the way Indian families eat at home – consiting of a large platter with a curry as the centrepiece. We ordered a Vindaloo with rice served with spiced yoghurt, potato, vegetable, lentils, canapé and pulao rice of the day along with chapatti, salad, papadum and more chutneys! We added a deliciously minty Lamb Seekh Kebab for good measure, and despite feeling full, we certainly didn’t regret it. Our red wine Monte Pulciano D’Abruzzo, selected especially for its affinity with spice complimented our meal perfectly. I enjoy the short, well priced wine list that is carefully selected. Masala Zone is a great place to eat, especially if you enjoy real Indian food in a vibrant setting rather than a dingy canteen. Everything on the menu was well-priced and excellent value for money. Highly recommended.

Hopefully the acting will take off – Signing autographs! What is your major weakness? I suppose I can be too trusting, I am quite disciplined and find it annoying when people let you down. This is a simple 4 week program which you can do at home or in the gym. so just enjoy. So what have you arranged for our readers this month? If you are short on time, performing big movements using big muscle groups together can be a really effective way to burn lots of calories. Working your upper and lower body together also requires lots of oxygen so expect your heart-rate to be high throughout this workout! For a quick total body blast perform the following exercises to fatigue as a circuit and repeat up to 4 times. Choose a weight that you can lift between 10 and 20 repetitions to fatigue, being careful not to compromise your form in order to lift a heavier weight. Your core muscles will be challenged by this workout, remember to engage them by drawing and holding your navel back towards your spine. don’t be afraid to ask a trainer for advice 3SIXTY MAGAZINE
