coaching staff Jason Mangone Head Coach Jason Mangone enters his sixth season as head coach of the Brockport Football team. Mangone joined the coaching staff in 1999, and was promoted to head coach in 2013 after serving as offensive coordinator since 2004. Mangone was named the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) National and Regional Coach of the Year in 2017 after leading the Golden Eagles to a 13-1 record and an appearance in the NCAA Final Four. The season was the best in Brockport football history, and marked the first time in over 10 years that an East Region team advanced to the NCAA Semifinals. 20 different Brockport players earned All-Conference accolades, including an Offensive Player of the Year, Special Teams Player of the Year, and Rookie of the Year. 10 more earned D3Football.com All-East Region status, with four being named All-Americans. Mangone was also named the D3football.com Regional Coach of the Year and the Rochester Press Radio Club Coach of the year following the 2017 season. The team was awarded the Lambert Cup for best team in the East Region for the first time since 2002. In 2016, the football program posted a 7-4 record, earning a bid to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) President’s Bowl at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa. 11 different players earned All-Conference selections, while Dan Andrews was named an All-American for the second straight season. Freshman quarterback Joe Germinerio also impressed in his rookie campaign, being named the ECAC Rookie of the Year. During the 2015 season, the Golden Eagles posted a 5-5 record under Mangone. Throughout the season, 12 Golden Eagles brought home 29 awards including d3football.com’s National Team of the Week, and the Empire 8’s Defensive and Offense Player of the Year. Brockport earned seven spots on the All-Empire 8 team, plus two to the d3football.com All-East Region Team. Andrews and Tarik Bennett were each named All-Americans by d3football.com. Andrews broke several school records and was the national scoring leader with a 15.6 points per game average, earning him the award for Brockport’s Athlete of the Year. Bennett ranked 13th in the nation in tackles for loss with a 1.9 average and set a new Brockport record in career sacks with 25.5. In 2014, Mangone coached Brockport to a 5-5 record including a three-game winning streak midway through the season. Under Mangone, 17 Golden Eagles tallied 22 awards ranging from ECAC Rookie of the Week to the offensive line earning a spot on d3football.com’s National Team of the Week. Brockport also earned a handful of postseason awards as six Golden Eagles were named to the Empire 8 All-Conference team and one player was named to the d3football.com All-East Region Second-Team. Mangone also led the football team to earning one of Brockport Athletic’s highest awards as Richie Welch was named Brockport’s Male Scholar Athlete of the Year. Mangone had a memorable 2013 season, his first as head coach. He led the Golden Eagles to an 8-3 overall record, as well as the first New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Conference Champion Title in school history and an East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northwest Bowl victory. The eight wins are the highest by a head coach in his first season and the fourth most wins in a season in school history. Mangone’s team broke the total yards in a season record with 4,793, as well as rushing yards in a season with 2,354. Nationally, out of 242 teams, the Golden Eagles finished ninth in sacks against, 20th in team pass efficiency defense and 29th in total offense. In 2012, the Golden Eagles offense was ranked 16th in the country in total offense with 475.7 yards per game. Quarterback Joe Scibilia and wide receivers Jake Spalik and Andrew Mrozek broke several school records in the process while running back Tyrone Nichols became the sixth 1,000-yard rusher in school history. Scibilia became the school’s first 3,000-yard passer and finished seventh in the country in total offense. The 2009 team broke 20 school records with the offensive unit earning the title of the highest scoring and most prolific passing teams in school history. The unit finished eighth in the country in total offense averaging 466.5 yards per contest and set the school record for points per game with 36.7. In 2008, the Brockport offense shattered several records for scoring as well as individual records for TDs in a game, season and career. Garet Lynch broke several of the offensive records and was ranked fifth in the country in scoring with 14.26 points per game and was seventh in the nation in rushing with an average of 151.36 yards per contest. In 2007, the Golden Eagles boasted the top running back in the ACFC. In 2005, Brockport had the conference rookie-of-the-year in Zack Luke. Mangone played two years at Alfred before transferring to Brockport in 1997. He became the starting quarterback in 1997 and also started in 1998, setting season records for completion percentage and efficiency rating in his first season at Brockport. He received the Offensive Player of the Year Award in 1998, and Rookie of the Year honors in 1997 with Brockport. He was also the rookie of the year at Alfred in 1995. Mangone received his B.S. in Physical Education from Brockport in 2000 and also earned a Master’s degree in Athletic Administration at the College in 2012.
Steve Potter Assistant Coach/Offensive Coordinator Steve Potter was hired as the offensive line coach, run game coordinator and recruiting coordinator in the spring of 2013 and after one season, was promoted to offensive coordinator and will continue to coordinate recruiting. Potter comes to Brockport after three seasons as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator at Cortland. Prior to Cortland, he was an assistant coach with Bethany College in West Virginia. In 2017, Potter helped lead the Golden Eagles to their best season in program history, reaching the NCAA Final Four with a 13-1 record. The team won their first ever Empire 8 title, and the coaching staff was recognized for their efforts, being named the E8 Coaching Staff of the Year. Potters offense eclipsed a number of offensive records, scoring a new program-high 518 points through the season on 69 touchdowns. The single season passing, receiving yards, and reception records were all broken as well, which helped land four different players on All-American teams. Two of those All-American’s were offensive linemen (Adan Barrientos, Mark Sanchez), as the O-line was also named D3Football.com National Offensive Line of the Week during the season. The Golden Eagles also set an Empire 8 record, with all five starting linemen, First-Teamers Mark Sanchez, James Grennan, Caleb Ferdilus, Adan Barrientos and Justin Torres (second team) named to the All-Conference ranks. Brockport averaged over 37 points-per-game in 2016 on 423 yards-per-game, with the workload being divided between the passing game (237 YPG), and running game (186 YPG). Six offensive players earned All-Conference selections, highlighted by Dan Andrews who once again received All-America honors, and Joe Germinerio who earned Rookie of the Year honors. The team finished with a 7-4 record and a spot in the Eastern College Athletic Conference President’s Bowl. In 2015, Potter’s offensive unit combined to run and pass for 398 yards-per-game. The team led the Empire 8 Conference in scoring, averaging 33.6 points per game, which is their highest total since the 2009 season. The running game led the offensive charge, as junior Dan Andrews ran for 139 yards per game, leading the Empire 8 and ranking 14th in the nation. He also ranked first nationally in scoring, accounting for 15.6 points per game. The Golden Eagles brought home four Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week awards under Potter, including four offense on the All-Empire 8 team. Brockport also boasted the third best rushing offense, with an average of 181.1 yards per game. The Green and Gold also led the league in fewest sacks allowed with 14. With Cortland, Potter helped the team to two NCAA Division III Playoff appearances and an ECAC Bowl Championship. He also coached seven all conference players, and three All-Americans. In his three seasons as part of the offensive staff at Cortland, the Red Dragons were ranked either first or second in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) in scoring offense. At Bethany, Potter held the roles of running backs coach, defensive line coach and finished his tenure at Bethany as the team’s offensive line coach and head coach of the junior varsity squad. He coached three Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) All-Conference selections on the offensive and defensive lines. Prior to his collegiate experience, he was the assistant offensive and defensive line coach for George Washington High School in Charleston, WV. The Charleston, WV native played football for West Virginia Tech before finishing his college playing career at West Virginia State where he graduated with a degree in Political Science in 2007.
Mike Fox Assistant Coach/Defensive Coordinator Mike Fox joins the Brockport football coaching staff for the 2016 season as the Defensive Coordinator. Fox joins the Golden Eagles after a 12-year stint at St. John Fisher College, where he served as the Defensive Coordinator for eight seasons. Fox’s second season with Brockport was an impressive one, as the Brockport defense helped lead them to their best season in program history with an appearance in the 2017 NCAA Final Four. The team made a living of getting after opposing quarterbacks in ‘17, leading the nation with 63 team sacks, leading the second-place teams by more than 20 sacks. They also finished the year ranked third in rushing defense, allowing just 54 yardsper-game on the ground. Eight defensive players were placed on Empire 8 All-Conference teams, including five on the First-Team. Five of those players were also placed on D3Football.com All-East Region teams, while safety Jake O’Connell was named a First-Team All-American. While with the Cardinals, Fox saw six Conference Championships, six Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships, and five NCAA National Playoff appearances including three quarterfinal finishes and a semi-final appearance. Fox oversaw a defense that crushed over eight school and national records. His unit set the single game record with 11 sacks against Hartwick College in 2013. That same defense also caused a school record 18 forced fumbles and were ranked second in the country in interceptions. Over his career, Fox has mentored over 50 All-Conference players, two All-American linebackers, an Empire 8 Conference Player of the Year and a d3football.com All-Decade selection. Fox, a 2005 graduate of Fisher, was a four-year starter at Fisher and two-time All-American inside linebacker. He set the Fisher singleseason record with 151 tackles as a junior in 2003 and tallied 135 tackles in 2004, while helping guide the Cardinals to their first Empire 8 Conference title and the program’s first trip to the NCAA Division III Championship. For his career, Fox, a former All-Greater Rochester selection out of Caledonia-Mumford, ranks not only first at Fisher in career tackles, but his 478 career tackles rank third all-time in NCAA Division III. Fox graduated with a degree in Communication/Journalism.
David Blahowicz Assistant Coach/Defensive Backs David Blahowicz joined the Brockport staff in the fall of 2016 after completing a ten year stint at St. John Fisher College. His coaching responsibilities will include working with defensive backs. In his first season at Brockport, Blahowciz’ defensive secondary ranked third in the country in defensive touchdowns, intercepting 14 passes (1.3 per-game). Safety Jake O’Connell was named a pre-season First-Team All-American by d3football.com after a breakout junior campaign under Blahowicz. As a player, Blahowicz was a quarterback and defensive back for St. John Fisher between 2000 and 03, recording 55 tackles, two sacks, four interceptions, and a forced fumble. He then went on to earn a graduate degree from Fisher in 2007. In 2009, Blahowicz served as the defensive coordinator at Penfield High School before eventually returning to the Cardinals the following year.
Justin Dueppengiesser Assistant Coach/Fullbacks & Tightends Justin Dueppengiesser joined the Brockport Athletics staff in the Fall of 2015 as the quarterback’s coach. Dueppengiesser orchestrated a running attack in 2016 that accounted for 187 yards-per-game, and 31 touchdowns. Starting running back Dan Andrews earned All-America status for the second straight season under Dueppengiesser’s tutalage. In the 2015 season, Dueppengiesser improved the quarterback play, as the starting signal caller saw an increase in efficiency (125.91), completetion percentage (57.84%), and total pass yards (2022). Dueppengiesser has a wealth of coaching experience, serving as the Avon Central School Assistant Varsity Coach from 2005-2015. He was the offensive coordinator for five year, the special teams coordinator for five years and the quarterbacks and defensive backs coach for 10 seasons. While with the Braves, Dueppengiesser helped lead Avon to five Sectional Championships and saw four quarterbacks and two running backs named as Class D or DD Offensive Player of the Year.
Tyrone Nichols Assistant Coach/Running Backs Tyrone Nichols joined the Brockport Athletics staff in the Fall of 2015. Nichols will work with the running backs. In 2016, Nichols worked with an offensive unit that put up record numbers, setting a new program mark for points-per-game. He again oversaw a rushing attack that saw senior Dan Andrews earn his second straight All-America selection after eclipsing the 5,000 yard mark for his career. In his first season as a coach, Nichols helped running back Dan Andrews earn All-America status after breaking the Brockport career rushing touchdowns record in his Junior season (44). During his four year playing career, the linebacker earned Conference Player of the Week honors twice, was an All-Conference Selection as well as NJAC Offensive Rookie of the Week. The Troy native played in 35 games for the Golden Eagles, recording over 2,200 rushing yards including 23 touchdowns. In 2012 Nichols led the team with over 1,000 rushing yards (1,022) on 198 carries and scored a team-leading nine touchdowns.
Brandon Miller Assistant Coach/Linebackers Brandon Miller joins the Brockport football coaching staff in 2017 after spending last season coaching at Utica College. He will be primarily responsible for working with linebackers. While at Utica, Miller worked with a defensive unit that allowed less than 24 points-per-game, racking up 24 sacks and 17 interceptions in ten games. A 2015 graduate of St. John Fisher College, Miller played under defensive coordinator Mike Fox for the Cardinals. In his senior season, he racked up 103 tackles, and 6.5 sacks.
Chandler Williams Assistant Coach/Cornerbacks Chandler Williams joins the Brockport football coaching staff in 2017 after spending last season coaching at SUNY Cortland. He will be primarily responsible for working with cornerbacks. While at Cortland, Williams assisted with the defensive secondary that collected 16 interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. Williams also completed his undergraduate degree at Cortland, playing for the Red Dragons from 20112015. In his four year playing career, he competed at both wide receiver and defensive back.
Marcus McGill Assistant Coach/Wide Receivers In 2018 the Golden Eagles will have a fresh face on the sidelines, with assistant coach Marcus McGill joining the staff. McGill comes to the Golden Eagles after an impressive playing career at the University of Buffalo. In three years as a Bull, McGill saw action in 35 games, making 112 career receptions for 1,497 yards and seven touchdowns. Prior to his college career, McGill had a tremendous playing career locally, becoming the first player in Gates Chili school history to be twice named first-team All-Greater Rochester, second-team All-State and was a three-time All-County selection. In high school, he recorded 1,798 all-purpose yards and 20 touchdowns and McGill set a Section V record with 98-yard kickoff return for a score.
Mark Sanchez Assistant Coach/Offensive Line The No. 6 College at Brockport football team will see some familiar faces in new roles for the 2018 season, with Golden Eagle alum Mark Sanchez joining the coaching staff. As a player, Sanchez left his mark on the Green and Gold line, starting at center for all four years of his career. While at center for the Golden Eagles, Sanchez helped direct an offensive line that garnered national attention as a two-time D3football.com offensive line of the week, and was a dominant force that paved the way for the success of the Brockport offense.
Brenden Fesinger Assistant Coach/Tight Ends The No. 6 College at Brockport football team will see some familiar faces in new roles for the 2018 season, with Golden Eagle alum Brenden Fesinger hanging up their jersey’s and joining the coaching staff. Fesinger was a member of the Green and Gold for four years and will look to pass on his experience at the Tight End position.

Germinerio is a graduate of LaSalle Institute in Troy, N.Y. where he was named to the All Section II team as a safety and a quarterback. He was also named to the All Liberty First Team and was the MVP of the Section II Senior Bowl. The son of Cheryl and Joe Germinerio, he has three siblings Alina, John and Maurice. He’s majoring in Finance. Germinerio is entering his Junior year, and last season, he was the true definition of a dual threat quarterback as he racked up 40 touchdowns, 27 passing and 13 rushing. He was ranked fourth in the country in passing yards (3,485), and eighth in completion percentage of 67.83 percent. With his successful season, Germinerio, was named Empire 8 Offensive POY, D3Football.com East Region Offensive POY, and D3football. com All-American Honorable Mention. Germinerio was also named a pre-season All-American in 2018.
O’Connell is a graduate of Spencerport High School where he was a two time MVP and named to All-Greater Rochester his senior year, and was a two time All-County selection. The son of Katie Searls and John Devine, Jake has one sibling Kylie Devine. He is obtaining a degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Coaching. The native of Rochester, N.Y. had a stand out 2017 season, picking off seven balls, while returning three for touchdowns. He also racked up 56 tackles, broke up eight passes, and recovered a fumble. The senior did not go unnoticed as he earned Empire 8 First-Team AllConference, First-Team All-Region, D3Football.com First-Team AllAmerican. To start the season, O’Connell was named a pre-season All-American.

Dean is a graduate of Sidney High School, where he earned FirstTeam All-State honors on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. He was also a two-time Section 4 Class C wrestling champion. He’s the son of Corey and Donna Dean, and has four siblings, Wade, Danielle, William, and Corey Jr. He’s seeking a degree in Criminal Justice. He totaled 52 tackles, with 14 of them being for a loss, and 7.5 sacks. His talents did not go unnoticed as he was named First-Team All-Conference and Second-Team All-Region. To start the season, Dean was named a pre-season All-American.
Ferdilus is a graduate of Ramapo High School, where he earned numerous accolades on the field including All-League, AllConference, and All-County. He’s the son of John and Kerline Ferdilus, and has four siblings, Sara, Kervins, Jephthe, and Ashley. He’s obtaining a degree in Sport Management with a minor in Coaching. Ferdilus is the lone returning offensive lineman to this year’s front line. He was a key contributor in the offensive scheme last season, creating holes for the running backs, and protecting the quarterback. He will bring experience and knowledge to the new O-line that will continue their unstoppable ways. This past year, the native of Pomona, N.Y. was selected First-Team All-Conference, and Second-Team All-Region.

Since football began at The College at Brockport in 1947, 47 individuals have been honored 74 times as All-Americans by a variety of organizations and publications. Included in this group are eight Little All-Americans, which today comprises all levels below Division I (in the ’50s, Little All-Americans were players in the “College” division), and seven first-team Division III All-Americans—Ed Smart in 1990, Steve Milne in 1993, Tom Massey in 1997, Josh Warner in 2000, Jay Johnson in 2001, Mike Condello in 2002 and Cuyler Groth in 2007. Massey also was named a first-team Academic All-American by GTE and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).Warner was the first Golden Eagle to be named to the American Football Coaches Association All-American team (started in 1945) and was also the first to be named to the USAfootball.com first team (started in 1995). Warner and Condello are the only Brockport players to earn all five All-America honors in one season. There are 14 members of this elite group have been elected into the Golden Eagle Athletic Hall of Fame. They are indicated by the (*) symbol in the list below.

Support staff Staff Lee Cohen Head Athletic Trainer Lee Cohen is Brockport’s Head Athletic Trainer, and Cohen has worked at Brockport since 1986. Cohen received his B.S. in Sports Medicine from Marietta College (Ohio) in 1982, and his M.S. in Physical Education/Athletic Training from the University of Arizona in 1983. As Brockport’s Head Athletic Trainer, Cohen supervises the College’s Athletic Training Services, and also teaches courses in the Athletic Training and Physical Education Teacher Education majors at Brockport. Before coming to Brockport, Cohen served as the Head Athletic Trainer/ Instructor at Phoenix College in Phoenix, Ariz, as a Faculty Associate at Arizona State University and as an Associate Athletic Trainer at Grand Canyon College from 1983-86. Cohen also was the Head Athletic Trainer at Pueblo High School in Tucson, Ariz. From 1982-83.
Ed Jaskulski Strength and Conditioning The College at Brockport not only boasts 23 outstanding varsity sports teams, it also features a state-ofthe art strength and conditioning program, which is directed by former Brockport football and track & field athlete Ed Jaskulski. Jaskulski is assisted by Nate Bull with the programs specially designed for football. Using a recently renovated student-athlete strength and conditioning facility just steps away from the team locker room, Jaskulski and his staff design and implement training programs for each individual position group. The strength and conditioning center is outfitted with collegiate power racks provided by EliteFTS.com, high-speed treadmills, inlaid Olympic platforms, a free-motion functional trainer, VertiMax platforms and much more, athletes will be able to push their bodies to maximize their athletic talents, all while under the watch of experienced instructors. Jaskulski was a starting offensive lineman from 1999-2002, was captain of the 2001 squad as well as the 2002 Lambert Cup Championship team.

Using the college’s high-speed treadmills, TRX trainers, kettlebells, Inlaid Olympic platforms, free-motion functional trainers, VertiMax platforms, Elitefts Colligate power racks, speed and power sleds, and a major piece of technology named Ariel Computerized Exercise System (ACES) machine, and much more, athletes will be able to push their bodies to maximize their athletic talents, all while under the watch of experienced instructors.
Situated along the parking lots adjacent to the Tuttle North Physical Education facility, the Special Events Recreation Center (SERC) is a $44 million, 156,000 square-foot, multi-use complex with a seating capacity of 5,500. The state-of-the-art, three-story facility features an indoor track, a brand-new fitness center and weight room, and indoor training and practice areas for softball, baseball and tennis.
