The Goodman experience
Sean Chamberland (BBA ’14)
Senior Director, Marketing at Cengage Canada
“I chose Brock because of its intimate feel on campus. From the moment I visited for the first time, I could tell that the people and the faculty were just ‘different’. They cared about you as a person, not just a number. Goodman really prepared me for my career by offering many opportunities to be part of campus life and l earn outside of the classroom.
With the experience, support and knowledge I gained at Goodman, I have been able to achieve my dream and I’m now a Senior Director of Marketing at an education technology company leading a team of 10 talented marketers into the future of marketing. Since graduating, I felt a strong desire to give back to the School that gave me so much while I was there. I have really enjoyed my time on the Goodman Alumni Network as a committee member as it has allowed me to remain connected to the very talented people I grew up with while at Brock.” “I chose Goodman because of the co-op opportunities and opportunity to concentrate in Human Resource Management. In second year, I was a student consultant through the Goodman Consulting Association’s (GCA) pro-bono initiative, and now going into my fourth year, I am Co-President of the GCA! It’s so surreal to see how much I’ve grown both personally and professionally while at Brock.
Brock has done a great job of preparing me for the future. I’ve had some amazing co-op experiences, where I’ve gotten the opportunity to improve existing skills and gain new skills. I’ve also made life-long personal and professional connections, and most importantly, I’ve had to adapt my learning while major changes in the world have occurred.”

“The Goodman School of Business is filled with opportunities to develop personally and professionally.
Goodman supported my passion for technology and business through courses focused on information systems; leadership opportunities with student clubs and case competitions that strengthened my problem-solving and communication skills; and co-op work terms that helped me develop a deep understanding of the rigor and complexity required to operate a global organization.”

Sr. Accountant Grant Thornton
“Goodman was an easy choice for me, as the school’s reputation and co-op programs are one of the best in the country. Heading into my first year I had a goal of attaining a public accounting co-op position, and 5 years later I’m still with the same firm I was originally placed with.
The in-depth focus on accounting at Brock allowed me to establish a high level of foundational and in-depth knowledge that greatly contributed to succeeding on the CPA 2021 Common Final Exam, finishing in the top 1 per cent in the country, and attaining my CPA designation.
For anyone else considering Brock’s accounting program, and/or the Goodman School of Business, I ensure that you’ll have not only a high quality of education that will be invaluable to your future career, but you’ll also meet and connect with so many great professors, role models, and peers with the same aspirations as yourself." “I chose Goodman because I wanted to be more than just a student number in a classroom. The class sizes and access to professors was a key factor in defining my university experience.
Through classes, clubs and competitions, I was able to take part in opportunities that made me expand my horizons on what a business degree could entail. Goodman created an environment that allowed me to better connect with my peers and professors, creating a supportive network that lasted beyond graduation.
Some of my most memorable moments at Goodman are the memories made with friends spent championing school spirit at external competitions and being known for the notorious red scarves.” Joachim Scholz
Assistant Professor of Augmented Reality Marketing
“Goodman offers a very forward-looking curriculum that provides students with unique opportunities. In May 2020, I launched the world’s first dedicated augmented reality (AR) marketing course. Augmented reality (AR) is one of the hottest industry trends: its global market size is expected to grow from 25 billion USD in 2021 to 340 billion USD in 2028. That’s a 13.6fold increase! Companies will be in desperate need for employees who know how to maximize AR’s potential for marketing and retailing, and students who took Goodman’s AR Marketing course will be excellently positioned to scoop up the best jobs.
One of Goodman’s key strengths is that professors bring their unique expertise into the classroom. This benefits students greatly: they learn how to solve case studies by those who author them, they conduct service-learning projects under the guidance of professors who have won awards for how they incorporate the real-world into their courses, and they apply cutting edge research of their professors when formulating business strategies.” 23
