You can read more information on these food groups as well as which foods to avoid, on our website, www.littledish.co.uk Tips for fussy toddlers Children of toddler and pre-school age are growing rapidly and are very active, so they need lots of energy and nutrients as part of a healthy, balanced diet. Try to encourage your toddler to eat a healthy and varied diet alongside the rest of the family, as likes and dislikes are often established at this early stage in life. Energy and nutrient requirements As toddlers have smaller stomachs, they need more calories and nutrients in each mouthful of food than adults. Your toddler should have small meals and snacks based on foods from the four main food groups: • bread, rice, potatoes, pasta and other starchy foods • fruit and vegetables • milk and dairy foods • meat, fish, eggs, beans and other nondairy sources of protein

It is normal for toddlers to refuse to taste or eat new foods from time to time. Most children will eat enough to keep them going, so there is no need to worry unless your child is clearly not gaining weight. Fortunately, most toddlers grow out of this stage and eventually learn to enjoy a variety of different foods. If your little one is a fussy eater, here are a few tips that may help: • Your toddler will benefit from a routine of regular mealtimes and snacks. • Try to offer your child the same food as the rest of the family and eat your meals together at the table when possible. • Toddlers often benefit from eating with other children so arrange for your child to eat with other children when possible (e.g. with siblings or at nursery). • Give your child small portions and praise them if they finish and offer more.

• Make positive comments about the food. • Offer finger foods as often as possible. • Make sure your toddler eats in a calm, relaxed environment away from distractions such as TV and toys. • Try to finish the meal within 20-30 minutes. • Try to recognise when your child has had enough and remove uneaten food without comment. • Never rush meals or try to pressure your toddler to eat more when he/she has indicated they have had enough. Phoenix Dance Club We run dance classes for both children and adults.

Inclusive dance sessions All abilities welcome – first session free! Magpie Dance is an inclusive dance company for learning disabled people which has carved out a national reputation for its exciting and inspiring approach to inclusive dance. The sessions explore creative movement and related arts in a supportive, safe and stimulating atmosphere, allowing everybody to achieve their full potential in a fun way. Magpie Youth Group Juniors – FREE taster sessions Magpie’s recently opened Junior Youth Group is for young learning disabled people aged 11-15yrs and takes place Saturday mornings from 1pm – 2.30pm. This is after the usual Youth Group (aged 16-25yrs) which runs from 10.30am – 12.30pm; both held at Balgowan Primary School in Beckenham. Magpie are delighted to announce 2 free taster sessions at Easter for this new junior class on the 8th April; you can choose to sign up to either the morning session from 10.30am – 12.30pm or the afternoon session from 1-3pm. These FREE taster sessions are being held at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley, and although they are free, they must be booked for. Book now to guarantee your space! Magpie’s inclusive dance sessions are accompanied by live music and are a great way to meet new people and have fun – and you don’t need any previous dance experience to attend, everyone is welcome!

Magpie also holds dance sessions for learning disabled adults on Wednesdays in Orpington (at Crofton Halls from 1.30pm-3pm) and on Thursdays in Bromley (at the Civic Centre from 11am - 12.30pm).
