To nurture and educate the whole child by cultivating a reverence (deep respect) for the natural world, self, learning, and community as they become the next generation of servant leaders, entrepreneurs, artists, trailblazers, & problem solvers with a mission to change the world through good works and kind deeds.
Our second year is off to a fantastic start! It has been an amazing journey and I am honored to watch the magic unfold. Our biggest challenge so far this year is keeping up with the demands of space. We are quickly running out of places to put new students, especially in our Big Grader classes (middle school).
The students have been a joy to watch grow, change, and learn here. Equally as joyful is watching new teachers come in, establish themselves as part of the team, settle in to their classrooms with such obvioius delight. Our team is the cream of the crop and they work hard to make the magic happen.
Thank you for being part of our journey.
DAWSON A G E 1 O V E R T H E R A NIn its simplest form classical education is the idea that there is beauty in truth Classical education is a purposeful return to the ancient goal of education: teaching children to think and learn for themselves by imparting to them the tools of learning. The goal is to promote the type of inquiry that ultimately allows students to discover for themselves that which is true and beautiful.
Classical education began over 2500 years ago with the great philosophers Their goal, as is ours, isn’t for students to memorize disjointed material for the sake of regurgitating it on a test, but rather to demonstrate that all subjects are interconnected and there is beauty in that connectedness. This creates an environment that allows students to develop character, confidence, and strategic problem solving while instilling in them reverence for themselves, for learning, for their community, and for the natural world
Here at BCS classical education starts in kindergarten. We introduce Latin, geography through map drawing, ancient civilizations, add copious amounts of literature and sprinkle in strategic problem solving and critical thinking. We have been intentional in choosing our curricula to build a program that allow students to break subjects down to their simpliest forms This strategy permits students to take things apart, explore, investigate, and put content back together in a way that makes sense to them. We give them the facts, figures, and the tools to make sense of it all.
In addition to the academic rigor, and like the great philosophers, we also emphasize character, placing emphasis on servant leadership We do all of this by teaching the pillars of reverence outlined in our mission statement: Reverence for Self, Reverence for Community, Reverence for Learning, and Reverence for Nature.

BSC was founded on the concept of the mastery based learning model
This is a fundamental difference from the traditional instructional model that many of us are familiar with that provides an exciting, inspiring, and engaging learning experience for our school community
At the core of this model is the understanding that there is a need for flexibility delivering curriculum based on the learning needs and abilities of the individual student
There are no traditional pacing guides If a student has not mastered the concept or skill, we are not done teaching The overarching goal is mastery of learning over time
Mastery based education provides a learning environment where students are given opportunities to question, explore, recognize, and understand the interrelationships across content areas These opportunities promote higher level thinking and application of lifelong learning skills
Students, in turn, become more engaged in the learning process as they take on more ownership of their learning The teacher facilitates student learning by encouraging students to reflect on their work product and “self assess ” their understanding of the learning objectives Students gain a better understanding of their learning goals throughout this process
Learning competencies embed opportunities for critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, creativity, and self reflection Measuring proficiency of competencies is accomplished using multiple tools for assessment It is not based on one single grade in a content area at the end of a unit/end of year Examples of assessments can include exit tickets, performance task, assessments, anecdotal notes and checklists, and rubric based activities/projects
Mastery based education is transformative in how we support our community of learners to be the best they can be Our goal is to identify and nurture each child where they are on their continuum of learning both academically and social emotionally
By providing a safe and nurturing learning environment that promotes inquiry and uses higher level conceptual thinking, we encourage our students to be lifelong learners who have the skills and growth mindset to be trailblazers, innovators, and problem solvers.
“The human mind is our fundamental resource. ” –John F. Kennedy

create an endowment provide need based financial assistance to 25% of all bcs families create fundraisers that support and sustain the mission of bcs
An endowment is a portfolio of assests invested by an institution to support the educational mission
Donors contribute to the endowment with the stipulation that their gift will remain invested in perpetuity and the income generated from their gift is designated for a specific purpose typically tuition assistance or other operating need. Each year the school allocates a percentage of the endowment value to support the donor intended purposes
strong endowment provides stability for the future
If you ’ ve been with us since the beginning, you know that our journey started with us waiting for a fire hydrant After many delays the fire hydrant was installed, inspected, tested, and painted but we are still paying for it. The final bill for the fire hydrant installation was $71,535, This includes the fees to the city, engineer, and the actual fire hydrant. We still owe $19,200. On Febrarury 8th, 2023 we will host our first ever BCS Fire Hydrant Day (aka. Our Day of Giving) with the goal of rasing enough funds to pay off our beloved (and necessary) fire hydrant
