ts been a daring season but there is so much more we all can do to bring that real, Safari sunshine feel this summer. Loud prints have been an ongoing favourite since it’s introduction last year, we have had celebrities such as Rihanna, Beyonce and Rachel Gibson sporting pieces from cultural and tribal inspired collections from designers such as Marc Jacobs, Suno Spring / Summer 2011 and more underground fashion lines such as Boxing Kitty. Asos Online had a fantastic year with the Africa collection that became available in Spring / Summer 2010. This season we have a chance to bring all that wonderful culture
into our wardrobes once again. With a range of animal prints, tribal jewellery and all the tropical inspired clothing. There is also an additional bohemian vibe which has been combined with the styles of the 60s and 70s, from the flared trousers to the hot mini shorts. The key word 'Tropical' has taken to our fashion trend look books. The colours and fruit inspired looks all root from that South American and Caribbean feel, bringing these home towns into the beautiful world of Fashion. We have a great chance to strut in the finest styles that have originated from cultural backgrounds, so lets dive straight into it, fill up those shopping bags and prepare for these hot Summer looks.

The prints and patterns we see today go way back in cultural and tribal history. Trending back to its African roots, the appreciation of these beautiful patterns have finally been unleashed onto the fashion scene. With skirts such as those pictured titled Mozambique print, we are definitely heading back to the Motherland with some trends this summer.

iving in Colombia involves a lot of music and good food, everyday is sunny so you’re really surprised when it rains and doesn’t stop. People look into your eyes and it is as easy to start a conversation, mostly about politics, economics, death or football. Dancing is just our way of walking, food comes in many shapes and colours, right form the earth, although, not everybody has three meals a day, or a job to go to, or a house to live in. Making a living in London, for me, has to do a lot with image and good luck, if you believe you have those qualities and work them, people will take you for who you are because they don’t fool around.
27 / BRONZE
It is real people that attract me the most, the ones who you can’t put into a category or stereotype because they are so contradictory and full of variation. Boys who dress like little girls and older people wearing fashionable customised garments to go to their serious jobs. Many people walk the streets without trying to attract attention from others, but there are also people who enjoy attention so they experiment with the inner and outer stimulation of personality and character. What we have in common, is the feeling of detachment and the empowering rush of living in nobody’s land therefore, everybody’s land, when you recognise yourself among the surrounding difference.

How do I glow without looking oily?
During the summer, my eye makeup is always the first to fade. By mid-morning, my shadow is already disappearing!!! Any suggestions? Invest in an eye shadow primer. Some good ones include: Urban Decay Primer Potion, KK Beauty Eye shadow Base, Too Faced Shadow Insurance and MAC Paint Pots . It ensures your lids are prepped with colors popping and lasting all day! Also, try patting your eye shadows onto your eyelids instead of rubbing , this gives you effective layers of colours. Teresa, 18 , Lewisham
Be sure to use your bronzers on the outer perimeters of the face using a fluffy face brush for an overall glow. For specific placement, buff some high lighter on your cheekbones, inner tear duct, brow bone and on the cupid's bow. Practice makes perfect, so if you end up looking like a disco ball, not to worry, wipe off and practice some more. You'll love the fabulous glowy you!

I am bored with the mascara I am using now. I am ready for something new! What should I try?
I've got really thin lips, how do I make them look fuller? Purchase a lip pencil a shade close to your lip line colour as possible. Carefully pencil in just above your lip line to give the illusion of fuller lips. Then, get a lip brush and fill your lips with your desired lipstick. Ensure you clean around the edges with a q-tip for a crisp, neat line. Add some gloss, and you are ready to pout your full lips! Natalia, 24, Hackney
Kemi Imevbore International makeup artist www.kemimakeovers.com
Maybelline one by one mascara. This is my holy grail for now. I am yet to find a mascara better than this. It has got thousands of tiny soft and firm bristles which ensures it coats even the tiniest lashes thereby, giving fabulous lashes. It should be called lash extensions in a bottle!
What are some ways to store all my make-up products so that they look accessible, neat and orderly ?
Gloria, 33, Leyton
Hurry to your local craft store or stationery store and invest in some office supplies that can double as makeup storage systems. Pencil pots keep your eye pencils and lip liners tidy & office pins trays will keep your lipsticks, mascaras and lip glosses tidy. You can even cut up your lipsticks and squash into pill boxes to save space. Open up your mind and you'll be amazed at the options available. Marina, 21, Clapham

NATURAL LOOK Get ready to go back to basics this summer, because it’s all about big hair. Have fun and go wild by adding textures, ruffles and embracing those natural curls. This year the catwalks were stormed with 70’s glam hairstyling inspiration. We saw flashbacks of boho waves, colourful afro’s and gorgeous corkscrew curls, for that subtle out of bed sultry look, getting us eady for those long hot delightful days ahead. The best thing about this trend is that it is low maintenance and very much about loving the hair your in. If you have straight hair it’s time to experiment with a choppy textures & for those who use heat appliances regularly, well, it’s a time to give your tress an rest. The wonderful thing about the big hair trend is that it’s a look that any woman can achieve. What’s more, there are plenty of ways to make your natural look exciting by spicing it up with colour & tones, and by adding or

taking away length. One celeb who’s hair has been brightening up the press has been Rhianna with her popular daring firey ruby red ringlets. Here are just a few ways we can all achieve the natural look this summer.
TOUSLED CURLS /
Great for creating volume on European hair Wash your hair as normal then blast it dry working in your fingers to create volume. Choose your favourite holding spray divide the hair into sections & apply heat rollers roll from mid length to the ends. Take rollers out one by one and brush out each layer. Brush separating layers then style as desired.
CORKSCREW AFRO /
Perfect for Afro Caribbean & mixed hair types Achieve touchable texture by washing your hair as normal followed by deep conditioning. Using your fingers, or a wide tooth comb, separate your curls while your hair is wet. Towel dry, then use an anti frizz serum. Comb through your hair with fingers as you blow dry. Finish off by using an anti frizz finishing spray or olive oil for a shiny beautiful natural curly tress. Then style as desired.
SILKY CURLS /
Adding lustrous body to Asian hair Wash hair and blow dry, Apply a serum & separate the hair into four parts. Start with one bottom section divide it into parts and use a curling tong to create a beautiful bouncy effect. Repeat the process throughout the hair. Then style as desired. If necessary use a holding spray to keep your look flawless.
TEXTURES TRESSES/ Achievable with all hair types Add a little length and colour to your summer look. Wash & dry hair as normal and get an experienced hairstylist to assist. “A platform for young women to achieve personal growth and development and take pride in their heritage” Rachael Nosofor - Miss Black Africa Judge
The Miss Black African Pageant is a non-political, non-partisan platform for young women to achieve personal growth and development and take pride in their heritage, discover their inner beauty in achieving their humanitarian goals in life and laying a strong foundation as leaders of the future. The pageant has five rounds in total spread over the next few months with its grand final being held in November 2011. There have been hundreds of entrants however only one lucky girl will be crowned. It is very exciting to be on the judging panel along side Ibukun Jegede. The Multi award winning African male model, who also recently won first place in the UK's Top Model of colour. The first round auditions took place in London on April 2nd. 2011 We had brains and beauty that came from all over the country to compete in what I must say, is going to be a very competitive pageant.
