ONE&ONLY KÉA ISLAND KÉA, GREECE
The inimitable One&Only arrives in the Greek islands for the first time with this stunning clifftop retreat, which opens its doors in April 2024. Kéa is the greenest and most fertile of the Cyclades islands, a jealously guarded secret amongst the well-to-do Athenians who holiday here. Just 30 minutes by private boat from the Greek capital, the island is an Arcadian idyll of sleepy villages, rugged valleys and secluded beaches. The resort occupies 65 hectares of beautiful beachfront on the west coast, with 75 one and two bedroom villas that fuse classically Cycladic whitewashed walls with rich woods and gleaming marble. All villas have a private pool and panoramic sea views, along with a spacious terrace, courtyard and fireplace. You can savour artfully presented Greek dishes at the Taverna, sink into a shaded cabana at the Pool Bar and enjoy the latest chilled beats at the Beach Club while the sun goes down. As you would expect in this part of the world, there is endless fun to be had on the water, including sailing, snorkelling and diving, and there is also an enchanting spa and a well-equipped fitness centre. One&Only always delivers the goods when it comes to family fun, and the KidsOnly club offers creative activities including kite making, cooking, face painting and treasure hunts.

LIMASSOL, CYPRUS We would never recommend that you choose a sea view room at Amara, for one simple reason: every room here has a sea view! Enjoy this widescreen vista of dazzling blues and golden sunlight that floods in through floor-to-ceiling windows in all rooms. Although the hotel is undoubtedly modern in style, there is also plenty of history here; the ruins of ancient Amathus are just down the road, and the spa incorporates part of Limassol’s old city walls, discovered during the hotel’s construction. This is truly luxurious beachfront living, with tech-forward accommodation, firstclass facilities and dining from some of the finest chefs in Europe. The name Amara is derived from the Greek word amarantos, meaning ‘everlasting’, and you certainly won’t want your stay here to end.

BARBADOS

arbados is home to some of the most exclusive hotels in the Caribbean, from the six-star stylings of Sandy Lane to the whispered luxury of Coral Reef Club, so it’s a natural choice for anyone looking to celebrate in style. The island’s impressive roster of fine dining establishments is reason alone to spend a special birthday or anniversary here; our favourites include The Cliff, Baia and The Lone Star. Or, if unearthing undiscovered local gems is more your bag, why not take a foodie tour of the island and tuck into authentic Bajan favourites like cou cou and flying fish. The nightlife in Barbados is another big draw, from the famous St Lawrence Gap to more recent additions like the Vujaday festival, which attracts the biggest names in house and techno to the island. For a more sedate celebration, why not charter your own yacht and check out some of the less well-known beaches and snorkelling spots while being waited on hand and foot. The platinum sands of the west coast are the reason most people come to Barbados, but a trip around the island lets you explore the dramatic scenery of the more rugged Atlantic shoreline.

JAMAICA SPOTLIGHT ON
From the forested peaks of the Blue Mountains to the sunken city of Port Royal, from the endless white sands of Negril to the sleepy fishing villages of Port Antonio, Jamaica has so much to offer every type of traveller. Although Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean, it still ranks as one of the world’s smaller countries, which makes it all the more remarkable that the history and culture of this island have had such a huge impact around the world, from the rhythms of reggae and dancehall to the record-breaking exploits of sprinter Usain Bolt. Visitors quickly become hooked on the laid-back vibe and easy-going lifestyle, and all of our favourite hotels here have a dedicated contingent of repeat guests who come back year after year. If relaxing in a hammock with a Red Stripe or a tropical cocktail sounds a little too sedate, don’t worry, as Jamaica’s varied terrain offers up all kinds of possibilities for more active pursuits, from bamboo rafting on the Martha Brae River and bobsledding through the rainforest to surfing at Boston Bay and playing golf on one of the island’s many award-winning courses. 32

GRENADA G
renada is famously known as the ‘Spice Isle’, though this wasn’t always the case. Nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon were only introduced to the island during the British colonial period in the 18th and 19th century, but the excellent growing conditions and relative proximity to Europe meant that Grenada quickly became one of the world’s most important producers of nutmeg. This fragrant legacy lives on in the markets of the island’s capital, St George’s, and spices infuse everything from the fiery rum punch to the cuisine at the many world class restaurants. Our favourite places to dine in Grenada include the open-air Oliver’s Restaurant at Spice Island Beach Resort and celebrity chef the late Gary Rhodes’ eponymous restaurant at Calabash. For a unique experience, Armadillo is a small guesthouse set in the lush north of the island and offers a fine dining experience. You should also make sure you visit some of the more rustic local eateries, where you can try Grenadian staples such as oil down, a comforting onepot stew, and the deceptively named lambie souse, which is a seafood dish centred on slow-cooked conch. Cocoa is another important crop for the local economy - don’t leave without trying Belmont Estate’s awardwinning organic dark chocolate!

TOBAGO T obago is an island that appeals to those in search of the Caribbean as it used to be. Laid-back and low-key, with little in the way of tourism development compared to her neighbours, Tobago instead offers unspoilt nature, bijou beach hotels and an unhurried approach to life. Which is not to say that there’s nothing to do! The UNESCO-listed Main Ridge Forest Reserve is the oldest protected rainforest in the western hemisphere, where a dazzling array of colourful birds flit amongst the vines and lianas, and where crystalline waterfalls tumble from the rocks. Along the coast you’ll find coral reefs within swimming distance of the beach, perfect for snorkelling, while more experienced divers can take on challenging drift dives, with the chance to spot stingrays, mantas, sharks, dolphins, turtles and more. The island has had an eventful history, changing hands dozens of times during the colonial period, with the English, French, Dutch and even the Latvians fighting for possession of this diminutive jewel. Nowadays you can experience the local culture at the regular Harvest Festivals, join in the fun at the Easter goat races in Buccoo or enjoy world class acts at the Tobago Jazz Experience festival. Our favourite hotels on the island include Coco Reef, with its classic Caribbean ambience; the eco-conscious Castara Retreats; and the wellnessfocused Kariwak Village.

SAINT LUCIA
I
mpossibly picturesque, her jagged, jungle-clad peaks rising from the sea like dragon’s teeth, stunning Saint Lucia is rightly feted as the Caribbean’s most romantic island. Accommodation ranges from rustic rainforest retreats and boutique beach hotels to some of the most staggeringly luxurious resorts in the entire region. It’s no surprise that Saint Lucia is a favourite for couples on their honeymoon, but a host of high-octane pursuits and watersports also make it a great destination for the more adventurous traveller, as well as for active families looking for more than just a beach holiday. HIGHLIGHTS OF SAINT LUCIA
THE PITONS Start your exploration of Saint Lucia’s famous landmarks with the Pitons, two volcanic plugs on the southwestern coast of the island. Each Piton has its own name: Gros Piton (at 2,530 ft high) and Petit Piton (at 2,438 ft high). These landmarks actually inspired the creation of a local beer, Piton, a popular with locals and residents alike.
PIGEON ISLAND If you want to combine history and nature in your visit, we recommend a visit to Pigeon Island. Sitting just off the northern tip of Saint Lucia, Pigeon Island was a separate isle until 1972, when a causeway linked it the mainland for easy access. Once home to the infamous pirate, Jamb de Bois, who used it as a base from which to ambush Spanish trade ships. These days, it hosts the fantastic Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival each April-May.
SOUFRIÈRE Of all Saint Lucia’s most famous landmarks, Soufrière is one of the most recognisable. The town’s name comes from the sulfurous aromas created by the volcanoes. Explore the town square and get to know the culture of Saint Lucia (while shopping for a few souvenirs along the way), or head out to some of the natural wonders of the island.

he Dutch Caribbean island of Aruba lies 15 miles north of the South American coastline, benefiting from year-round sunshine, an average temperature of 32 degrees and a cooling breeze. Located on the edge of the hurricane belt, with a nine mile stretch of award-winning pristine beach, turquoise seas, colonial Dutch architecture and a Latin vibe; Aruba is a delightful alternative Caribbean experience. An adventure in Aruba is most often found in discovery of the unexpected. Visitors to the island delight in the amenities of world class hotels, stunning beaches, constant sunshine and dramatic scenery. One of the islands greatest assets is its people, whose warm, welcoming smiles greet visitors at every turn. Arubans gladly share their island and its unique culture, which is well displayed in folkloric festivals, art exhibitions and during a very joyous carnival season. Earlier this year, Aruba became the latest destination to join the British Airways network. This brand new route now operates twice weekly via Antigua on Thursdays and Sundays, making the island of smiles more accessible than ever.
