Cutting Edge of the Built Environment
Plan Patterns| Precedents: Casa Malaparte, Adalberto Libera; Slow House, Diller Scofidio + Renfro; Glass House, Lina Bo Bardi; Texas House No. 4, John Hejduk; Bait ur Rouf Mosque, Marina Tabassum; House in a Plum Grove, Kazuyo Sejima
In this project, a variety of plans were combined to give a unique shape. I was responsible for recreating the House in a Plum Grove by Kazuyo Sejima. From the combination of floor plans, I created shape with a riddle as the basis. My design creates the perception of an axe cutting through a building and a plum grove growing from the split of it.

Solid Scope of the Axe The purpose of this project was to take the floor plan from the Plan Patterns assignment and create a hatched, birdseye-axonometric drawing and 3D-model.

Slicing the Axe Section Perspective | Precedents: UID Architects node+ and PeacoQ House
This exercise was done to learn how to create an appealing section perspective in the same style as a precedent. The 3D model from the BirdseyeAxonomtric assignment was used to create the section perspective. These images were used as precedents in the assignment.

Slicing the Axe Section Perspective| Precedents: UID Architects node+ and PeacoQ House
My approach to developing the spaces was to interpret them as a dynamic space for entertainment. The center of the space is accentuated by a giant tree protruding from the roof, a driving theme from the original precedent House in a Plum Grove. The top floor is a lobby for families to interact and the lower level contains a bar for adults and a movie theatre.

Purpose Found Copycat| Precedent: Hesselbrand’s Room Without a Purpose (Above)
This assignment aimed to develop rendering skills with V-Ray. From the precedent we were assigned to imagine what the rest of the precedent photo looked like and model it in 3D. The model was then rendered to imitate the style of the precedent. My interpreattion of the space is as a bathroom of some sort.

Gesamtkunstwerk Total Work of Art| Precedents: John Koko Paintings and The Galatoir House by Albert Ledner
The assignment was to model the Galatoir House by Albert ledner and match the style of a precedent. In this project, my inspiration was from John Koko’s artwork. My rendition of the space is pictured on the right of the page.

Introduction to Arch. Studio
Vyborg House | Precedent: Vyborg Library, Alvar Alto Site: 849 Camp St., New Orleans LA
The basis of this assignment was to determine the principles behind the design of an existing library through diagramming. These principles were then used to design a housing complex for eight to ten architecture students. The context of the new design is in New Orleans.

Intro Studio Final Project
Everglades Network| Precedent: A Room for Archaeologists and Kids by ETH Zurich + PUCP in rural Pachacámac, Peru Site: Everglade’s National Park in Florida
The goal of this project was to find a possible solution to problems in certain National Parks through a research lab design using a tectonic structure as the precedent. In my proposal, the design seeks to resolve the over-drainage issues caused by commerical development through a replicatable aquaduct system that extends through the Everglades at various nodes.

Cancer Alley Research Center| Precedent: Wetland Research and Education Center by Atelier Z+ in Shanghai, China and Richard Misrach’s “Alligrator Bayou” Photograph
This assignment was meant to give an in depth understanding on how to perform a site analysis through research and utizlizing a precedent located in a similar region with methods like making a site map and doing a depth of field analysis. This site analysis led us into the design of a project that would act as a researfch facility in the landscape as if it were restored to its optimal state.

Three relative geometries were used to assign programming to this project. The rectangles act as multi-purpose spaces, the triangulated pieces are for the scientists work and the rounded pieces are for living spaces and visitor access.

While the space is used for research, it also serves as an educatinional space for visitors. People can take the canoes to the main exhibition building and follow along the snake around the three different ponds created to represent differing conditions of ecological health. A visitor experiences the path that led to the cleaning up of this ecosystem.

Eating the Corner | Precedents: Naturpark Amager by ADEPT Architects in Copenhagen, Denmark and the vernacular French-Creole style home
This project was designed as a museum for the history of the site and its fascinating context as a previous salt mine that flooded. This flood, caused by poor drilling practices, dropped the water depth from 10 ft to 200 ft.
