I N T R O D U C T I O N This report is an exhaustive quantitative examination of teachers, staff interviews, classroom observations, and student & parent focus groups during the 2022-2023 school year. The Federal Compliance Monitoring Review at Thornwood High School spanned from February 21, 2023, through February 27, 2023. The overall goal of this report is to provide a comprehensive performance assessment according to federal and state guidance aligned with Highly Effective School best practices. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) mandates that individual districts must create a robust plan to ensure every child is learning and on path to a solid college and/or career (U.S. Departmentment of Education, 2017). As such, the goal of ESSA is to ensure that all children receive a fair and equitable high-quality education. Noteworthy provisions of ESSA are as follows: (a) the requirement that all students be provided a high standard of educations that will prepare them for the future, (b) transparency on measurable student performance and progress, (c) increased support for evidencebased practice of interventions, and (d) accountability of positive change in the lowest performing schools. State Educational Agencies (SEAs) and Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) are responsible for the work in collaboration to ensure that applied interventions are operating in accordance with federal law (United States Department of Education, 2020).

The Fierce Urgency of Now Continues
"
On August 28th, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. described a “fierce urgency of now.” He reminded us of the importance of cohesiveness, underscoring that we are stronger when we march forward together. Ironically, the theme of Dr. King’s message is as relevant today as it was then. As change agents, this is a time for unity, creativity, and opportunity. As the Fierce Urgency of Now continues, educators continue to address the barriers to academic success for all the students of Thornton Township High School District 205.
