ISSUE: 005 / JANUARY YEAR: 2022
BROOKWOOD MIDDLE SCHOOL With the new year upon us there is little time to waste in setting new and attainable goals for the remainder of the 2022 school year. But before we set those goals, I would like to remind you of the goals that were set for the 2021/2022 school year. 1. Teach students how to use self-awareness and interpersonal skills to maintain positive relationships. 2. Use a more standards-based approach to measure student growth and progress. 3. Provide students with more opportunities to improve their mental and physical health. 4. Decrease the amount of student misconduct by implementing restorative practices. 5. Work collaboratively with parents to increase their involvement within our school community. Each day the teachers, staff, and students are working together to make sure Brookwood Middle School reaches the above goals and we look forward to your assistance in doing so. If you have any suggestions on how to reach these goals, please contact Ms. Stewart at lstewart@brookwood167.org with your suggestions.

Parents did you know that if your child is absent, you can request a recorded version of their teacher’s lesson? We want to keep students on track, and this is a great way for ensuring students don’t fall behind if they miss a class. You can also request a recorded lesson if your child is struggling and they need to see the lesson again. Please reach out to your child’s teachers and take advantage of this great resource.

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL) In SEL (Social Emotional Learning) News…. We are still working with the emotional needs of our students. Serving the emotional needs of our students helps provide students with opportunities to reflect on their own social emotional development. It helps support self awareness and prioritizes students’ insights into their own strengths and challenges. We began assessing students using the Panorama survey. The survey results will help us create curriculum to enhance students’ awareness of their own social emotional needs. And lastly, cozy corners have been added to the classrooms to benefit students’ social emotional awareness!
