JANUARY 2021
#BrookwoodStrong Hello Parents, Families, and Community Members, When we say goodbye to one of the most challenging years to remember, 2020, we have to reflect on what has evolved in education. Through the pandemic crisis, events of social justice awareness, and students and families working from home, along the way, we have created new norms for schools. One new norm is how we communicate between teachers and parents. We have moved from leaving a message on a voice mail or writing a note in the student’s assignment notebook. Parents and teachers can reach each other through a simple text message on ClassDojo. Those messages may even come with a picture or a video. This year’s Parent-Teacher conferences were the most successful, with everyone sitting in a live video on Google Meet. Mark your calendar for the next scheduled Parent-Teacher Conference coming up on January 28th.

The other new norm is social-emotional learning and awareness to be a part of the core curriculum. Learning and teaching to be understanding and empathetic of individuals can be difficult over remote learning. Still, it has led us to understand better that all circumstances and individuals are different. Every student, teacher, and family needs a wellness check when going through the past year’s experiences. I’m sure we will see more sincere social interaction in the classroom before going straight into academics.
LET’S TAKE WHAT WE’VE LEARNED TO BE BENEFICIAL TO A SUCCESSFUL AND HOPEFUL NEW YEAR!
