BLACK HISTORY CELEBRATION
On February 2nd, Longwood had a visit from the South Chicago Dance Theatre. Students watched a performance that gave tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have A Dream” Speech and Langston Hughes’s poem “I Too Sing America”. Students were introduced to different dancing styles and taken through a rhythmic dance through black history.
On February 23rd, Longwood was also visited by the Muntu Dance Theatre. Students learned about words from another language and the art of African dance. Students were invited to learn African-themed songs and dances. Teachers were also actively engaged in learning a dance routine as well.
