NOVEMBER 2020

#BrookwoodStrong Dear Parents/Guardians, It is hard to believe we have completed the first quarter of the school year. It is the staff’s desire at Hickory Bend to have a partnership with parents working together so that each child can be successful. Parents you play a tremendous role in developing your child’s remote learning ability. Please remember that [Parent/Teacher Conferences] are Monday, November 2nd from 11:00 a.m. thru 7:00 p.m. Make sure that you have set up a remote scheduled appointment with your child’s teacher using Dojo. Conferences provide an opportunity to discuss your child’s educational progress with the teacher. There are two (2) ways to respond to your children when they come home with grades.

WHICH ONE ARE YOU? “I got two A’s,” the small boy said. His voice was filled with glee; His father very bluntly asked, “Why didn’t you get three?” “Mom, I’ve got the dishes done,” The girl called from the door; Her mother very calmly said, “Did you sweep the floor?”

The children in the house next door Seem Happy and Content. The same thing happened over there and this is How it went:

“I got two A’s,” the small boy said. His voice was filled with glee; His father proudly said, “That’s great!!; I’m glad you belong to me.” “Mom, I got the dishes done,” The girl called from the door; Her mother smiled and softly said, “Each day I love you more.”

“I mowed the grass,” the tall boy said, “And put the mower away;” “I’ve mowed the grass,” the tall boy His father asked him with a said. “And put the mower away;” shrug, “Did you clean off the His father answered with much clay?” joy, “You’ve made my happy day!”

Children deserve a little praise. For tasks they’re asked to do. If they’re to lead a happy fulfilled life, so much depends on YOU! f

Conferences

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTC) are an excellent opportunity to find out how your child is adjusting to the new school year and to get to know his/her teachers. Here

are some general hints on how to have a successful

conference:

Ask your child if there is anything that he/she would like to discuss with the teacher Jot down everything that you want to talk about at the conference Arrive remotely on time Begin with positive comments about the teacher or classroom Be open to suggestions from the teacher Keep your emotions under control Take notes about what has been discussed and share them with your child

-- HELPFUL QUESTIONS -In order to help your child’s, have a successful school year, you need to know what will be expected of them academically. You can find out by asking some questions. And don’t forget to take notes. What skills and knowledge will my child be expected to master this year? How will my child be evaluated? What can I do to stay more involved in my child’s academic progress? How do you accommodate differences in learning?
