Dear Brookwood School District 167 School Community/Families, I hope this email finds you safe and well. I recognize that the more typical relaxing moments of summer have been punctuated this year by the unusual circumstances surrounding us all, I hope you are finding ways to enjoy special times and joyful moments. As you are aware, our district is in the process of planning for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year as we continue to move forward through the COVDI-19 pandemic. Brookwood School District 167 families and staff can expect a District decision regarding the instructional model for the reopening of schools at the Board of Education Meeting scheduled for August 10th, 2020. The proposal to the Board of Education will be based on the input received from parents and staff shared via surveys, district planning meetings, phone calls/emails received, etc. Our next Remote Learning Transition/Return to Learn Planning Meeting for Parents and Staff will be held on July 28th, 2020 at BMS from 1:00 P.M. - 3:30 P.M. The Fall 2020 Learning Recommendations (http://www.isbe.net/ Documents/Fall-2020-Learning-Rec.pdf ) , is a compass to guide all 852 Illinois districts through the uncharted terrain that lies ahead. The recommendations aim to limit instructional loss, provide students with predictable structure and reliable routine, target learning gaps with additional supports, and offer all students opportunities for deep learning. The intention is for all students and caregivers to have access to quality educational materials and to maintain personal connections that support the whole child. Underpinning these recommendations is the need for critical and creative thinking and responsiveness to help ensure that each and every student continues to grow academically and personally. While both the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) agree that in-person learning is the goal, it may not be safe or feasible to fully resume in- person learning in every school community. The purpose of this document is to provide recommendations to educators for implementing inperson, blended, and/or remote learning during the 2020-21 school year. Unfinished learning and learning loss are likely to be significant due to an extended period of remote learning in spring 2020 and summer break; these recommendations are to support teachers as they attempt to address these challenging realties and get students caught up and back on track. I am sharing this document with you so that you have a better understanding of the information our educators are receiving (https://www.isbe.net/Documents/Fall-2020-LearningRec.pdf ). We certainly appreciate your patience, insight, and resolve as we have navigated these challenging times over the past four months. I remain hopeful in light of the complex circumstances at hand.
